Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

Nintendo has shotgun blasted us with info and hands on play experiences from the public. Unless Nintendo is straight up lying about everything they've shown off, I don't think anyone needs some games journalists telling them what they already know.

They sure as hell don't need activists in the media firing off about politics and tariffs in the reviews on day one.
It would be good to know how much enhanced games like XC2 and XC3 are. These would really shine with a res boost. I hope they get one, but there is no way to know prior to release.

Still hoping i can use my old sd cards on the switch 2 lol. We'll see tomorrow when i can do the update.

Alas.... can't run the switch 1 games for now.
Can't really do much with the system for now, not being able to log in and it requiring an update and all.
Maybe it has a built in countdown timer. I hope it does, for people buying it after release sate and not necessarily connecting to the internet straight away. Would be bad to have to connect to the internet for it to be able to play any games, for preservation reasons down the line.

Love those rounded game icons. And what do you think the resolution of the home screen is?... The original Switch could be set to 1080p output but the home screen was capped at 720p...

I think this needs to be seen in person on the actual console. As HDR conversion to SDR can look pretty bad. It's funny because I have thought the same watching some YouTube videos and wondered where the colour has gone. But some videos look as vibrant as ever. In particular the Nintendo Switch direct trailer. Again this will be a little compressed on YouTube but at least it's 4K. This looks pretty awesome on my LG OLED telly and JVC 4K projector. :)

Yeah im pretty sure the game will look amazing on my OLED tomorrow in HDR :)

Just got my sms about the delivery tomorrow

Pretty sure you will have to use Micro Express Micro SD cards. Although the older ones may work for screen captures etc. The original Switch games will use a sort of emulation so pretty sure will only work with the express cards...

A draw distance increase would be highly beneficial as well.

Talking about the Xenoblade Chronicles games boys, which one is the best ? Are they that different ? The one with the mechs is X, correct ?

Never played one hence the questions!

Edit : I REALLY hope they start putting next gen patches out for most games - I'd kill for an Astral chain one specifically, guess we'll have to wait and see...

2 has the best story and cast. 3 has the best combat and gameplay mechanics. Xenoblade X, the one with the mechs, is not connected directly with the trilogy. The trilogy is very much story connected.

Bayonetta 3 is so terribly performing it essentially needs a remaster for Switch 2.

You can start with the first one, XC Definitive Edition. It is a great game with good characters and story. I like XC3 the most, XC2 comes second. I have not completed XCX and I do not think I will as the characters and story is just not there for me. A word about XC2, it is the most animeish of all the games and the character designs are a bit too risque.

Doesn't feel like 4K, even thought my tv is set up for 4K in the settings. Feels like a 1080p UI.
Feels slightly blurry compared to ps5/xbox series x. Don't have a Switch one with dock (have a Lite) so can't compare unfortunately.
The switch 2's screen itself seems to have slight ghosting when navigating the menus, but I'll need to confirm when i can actually play a game. It's also possible not all switch 2's have the same screen manufacturer etc (unless it's confirmed they're all the same?)

What T.V do you have mate?

You can't. Not only can you not use any SD card that is not an Express card, but Nintendo has specified you cannot insert an old SD card even for a mundane purpose like photo album.

Also the Switch2 is saying my TV doesn't support HDR.
It definitely does lol, when connected to the PS5/Xbox Series X there's no issues.
Maybe it's just that the UI doesn't display in HDR?
We'll see when i can run a game on it.

To be honest a 1080p home screen will still be a lot better than the original. My LG OLED is 48 inch and the original Switch home screen still looks pretty decent to be honest. My OLED TV has a HDR indicator that displays whenever the set detects a HDR signal. And I do not recall that being displayed with my Series X on the home screen. But yes we will have to see how the Switch 2 works with games etc..

I will die on the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 hill. It's the best in the series. But you should play them in order (it's okay to skip XCX until then end).

All the demo footage at the events looked pretty good imho. And that was captured off screen. This will look amazing.

There doesn't seem to be an option to mute the always-on microphone in the Switch 2. Hope they patch that in. Feels weird being able to transmit my living room sound at all times.

EDIT: After the update, you can put the input volume to 0

Randomly tried downloading the system update again, and it's downloading now. Wonder if I'll be able to play afterwards.
It's downloading veeeeery slowly, hope the servers aren't shitting themselves lol.

The Eshop has changed, still the web based thing but at least it's faster.. there's a type of "discover new game recommendations" thingy too now like with Steam.

EDIT: Apologies for the spamming. I'll limit to this post for now.

How big is it?

Weird, the ToTK Switch 2 edition is only 3.5 GB. I'm wondering if you're supposed to still download the Switch 1 version on top of that?
EDIT: Both switch 1 and switch 2 versions are merged together. Need to DL both.

Just tried it. You can actually import screenshots and videos from the old SD Card into the switch 2. I just did that.
That means that old SD card reads fine, and it's silly we can't play Switch 1 games from it. I have 3 useless SD cards now that should work perfectly fine with the system, but to avoid confusion, Nintendo blocks it, i guess....

Guess you are right, this page makes it clear the only thing you can do is load photos with old SD. I must have read a misinterpretation of this. https://www.nintendo.com/au/support...ss-card-compatibility-with-nintendo-switch-2/

Since some NS1 software have updates/patches that could transform it from a NS1 game to a NS2 game possibly dependent on higher speeds for data such as textures. I can see that going a long way to just killing it.

In the Day 1 patch live get from Nintendo? It's the 5th in Australia

Walmart is offering a 512GB Onn brand microSD Express card for $65.77. I believe they are made by PNY but someone will have to double check me on that, I just did a quick Google search for that info. Read speeds are 800MB/s and write speeds are 600MB/s

The text says its 30 fps on TV mode, but the fullscreen captures are 60. Thats not from the switch 2 version or what?
The beacon gameplay is from their new update trailer and it might be from the PC version

but the whole trailer is most likely presented in 60fps because it not only looks better, but also forces youtube to use a higher bitrate.

I noticed that as well, but they are clearly using a Switch 2 Pro controller in the video....very weird.

Really hoping Nvidia and Nintendo figure out docked VRR by year's end. Kinda sucks that performance is gonna almost always be best in handheld only.

I have updated my Switch and all games that I have downloaded/played. I'm ready to pick up my Switch 2 at GameStop tonight. Debating playing Mario Kart or playing BotW for the first time.

I have two coming in the mail and this is easily the least excited console release I've had in my life since being a console fan. I don't even have any games coming lol
