Borderlands 4 Previews

Game Informer: With Gearbox, it truly feels like Borderlands 4 is taking those steps to change the direction of a franchise that had been drifting away from me for more than a decade, while still remaining staunchly true to its overarching identity.

IGN: After several hours dipping my toes into what is sure to be a massive looter shooter, I'm much more optimistic about Borderlands 4's odds of recapturing my affections after years apart.

PCGAMER: There are no big surprises here: Borderlands 4 is more Borderlands. But if you're all extraction-shootered-out and a regular old co-op campaign is what you're looking for (I can sympathize), then I think you've got something to look forward to. Specifically: a big world, some fun new movement abilities, a cool hover bike, and fewer pop culture gags

Games Radar: After three mainline games, eight instalments to the franchise, and 16 years of steady iteration, Borderlands 4 was always going to be tasked with innovating within fairly tight boundaries. Gearbox has come into this project with some bold new ideas, and I honestly can't wait to dive into the final release with three of my friends to see how they all gel together.

Dual Shockers: While I did enjoy the previous games, they could not hold a candle to what Borderlands 4 is going to give us at launch. The improved writing, new gameplay mechanics, and quality-of-life improvements are only the tip of the iceberg of why Borderlands 4 indeed seems like it could be the best Borderlands title to date.

I'm a fan and buying on PS5 Pro so no DRM worry. That said, I'm still gonna wait on reviews.

I didn't hate BL3 and played it twice. Terrible compared to 2, I've listed the reasons before but they come down to Claptrap and Claptrap's writing.

Do kinda want to play this but I knew the community wouldn't be super enthused after 3 and that last spinoff that I(a big fan) didn't even play.

Playing through the franchise again with a friend on Steam because lmao@retardedpplworriedaboutpolicychanges and it has aged well tho performance does not scale very well with modern hardware. BL2 is still a fantastic game thanks to Jack. As long as the 4th has a great ost, great guns and great atmosphere, idc if it has a cringe story as the third. Third one outside of those atrocious female characters, you know who, was pretty great. I hope they somehow bring back Jack.

I'm with you 100%. I have a strong feeing Jack is a part of this one. Don't know why, or have any evidence, just a feeling.

Gameplay wise its looking like a major upgrade. Over BL3 which already played amazing.

There are some other fundamental issues I have with this series (like I can kill any boss without playing well, just keep respawning after dying). Hopefully they fix some of that. Also playing online had a lot of issues in BL3.

I will get this down the line when it drops below 40$.
Same. I have never seen Borderlands as a premiere franchise, just as an old reliable one, which is why I will wait for the complete edition in a few years for less than 40 and buy it then.

Regardless of their writing, I found the other games fun to play, but I just never looked at them as fun that's worth 70 or 80.

The shooting looks really weird to me, the bullet trails as well, every weapon shoots almost exactly the same and lacks punch to it.

Make that 20. I can wait.

The BL games get absurdly deep discounts on Steam. I can buy BL3 for 149 Indian Rupees or less than 2$ on Steam today. I predict this will drop to less than 20$ within 2 years. The games have always been woke, but the loot is great so I can overlook the cringy writing.

I love this series but like everyone else bl3 was a step back in certain areas and didn't feel like a jump forward. Looking forward to 4 but waiting seeing how it does.
The humor coming back will definitely be a plus.

Meh. I loved Borderlands 1 and 2, but after being burned by Pre-Sequel, Borderlands 3, and Wonderlands, Borderlands is no longer a "day one" franchise for me.

Especially since they are one of the worst offenders when it comes to DLC and cosmetic microtransactions — something they've already admitted they have tons of for BL4.

I can easily wait a year or so for the inevitable complete collection with all the extra crap included at a cheaper price.

It's kinda incredible how an fps brand so famous is still behind something like fear1 that is 20 years old in termf of punchy gunplay.

They improve a bit with every game but from what i'm seeing this is not even on the level of something like darktide...

Hell it looks worse than BL3 even.

Hard to believe, bl3 was just ok gunplay wise.

(Although people have different meaning of the word gunplay)

I need to check some prolonged gameplay, i saw a snippet where he was shooting some robots and they barely reacted but i thought it was the robot nature of the enemy being more tanky but now that you say this i'm worried...

In BL3 guns from different manufacturers behaved differently and had actual difference in bullets and punch to them.
Here you see the same behavior and lack of punch in most weapons, I really don't get how they managed that.

No i still have to watch some prolonged gameplay, let's just say that bl4 is not exactly on top of my priorities :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

I remember falling asleep halfway through Borderlands 3.

Are there any ARPG (diablo like talent trees/loot/progression etc.) looter shooters out there you can play single player that are actually good? Or is it better to just go back to Borderlands 1 and 2 (or Shadow Warrior 2) and replay those?

Remnant (both games) is pretty good, more of a souls like + diablo though.
