I'm with you bud. I know it's nowhere near what these families are going to have to go through but this, and I'm being honest here, has really sapped some of my humanity away.
 
I liked watching videos of him talking even though i did not agree with him most of the times.
He was no fool, he knew the dangers of public speeches with such provocative ideas and he died defending those ideas.

There is indeed an irony in the fact that he commented on gun deaths and the 2nd amendment, and to be honest i don't think he would like people to be silenced on bringing that up. He was after all a free speech supporter and he openly shared his thoughts on similar topics, even though they came out as brutal.

I hope his family is able to continue without him and his children are not traumatized. No one deserves that, not for speaking their mind at least.

Seeing the ResetEra posts here remind me i need to ask for account deletion there.

Debating with facts is malicious? He even allowed those he was debating with to use notes or look things up on their phone. Provocative maybe, but not remotely malicious.

As for your second point, what the fuck are you talking about? Whether it's the shooter here or the Minnesota shooter, which seems to be the only "gotcha" moment the left can lean on, it's definitely terrorism by definition. "the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims"

He didn't deserve this in 1,000 years but he was very much part of the unsympathetic reactionary community to shootings
 
I do not know who the shooter was, but to me this is the biggest attack on Christianity I have probably seen in my lifetime. From my experience talking with people who lean hard left, I strongly suspect that was the cause. They have a seething irrational hatred for religion, especially Christians.

I didn't agree with everything Charlie said, but I respected his work. I don't know where things go from here, but it's not good. Rest in peace. I feel sorry for his family. His children didn't get enough time with him.
 
Man, thats just sad, a baby girl and a baby boy lost their father for absolutily no reasson.

I wish the shooter an ending of agony and dispair.

Could be someone trolling and someone trying to scaremonger, but now that it has happened, this post definitely seems more suspicious now.

 
His death hopefully this wont start a dangerous precedent. Didn't particularly like him, im not sure why its so hard for people to just walk away and not give him your time if whats hes saying bothers you.

I had to unfollow several pages on Facebook that were celebrating/condoning his murder, they weren't even inherently political (webcomics & mental health related) this could end up being a powder keg because many on the right want revenge and if political violence becomes celebrated things are going to go down a very dark path 😢

Let's be honest: The second a story like this hits the air where a liberal person suffers consequences from policies they supported, the right wing meme factory goes into turbo mode making fun of them. They're effective at it too as I usually find myself laughing when I know it's terrible and insensitive. When Ryan Carson was killed about 2 years ago, I was seeing right wing trolls dancing on his grave within hours.

As a centrist, I see the same behavior from the left and right on this issue - laughing and jokes when the other team looses a player, and "have you no shame?!?!" when they loose one of their own. If anything, I'd argue the right is more effective and ruthless at it on average because the left is too weak to really lean into the dark humor.

Couldn't agree more. I've never been too fond of politics, and the past few years have only made me continue to despise them more and more as they've done nothing but viciously separate people and cause more harm than good. The more people are involved in them, the less positive the outcome in most cases. I've never experienced such tribalism in my entire life, and it's beyond gross.

It's interesting that the counter-examples for the apologists are a mostly peaceful protest in which the only person killed was an unarmed conservative protestor, and a Democratic legislator assassinated a few days after voting with Republicans to end free medical care for illegal immigrants but '''''totally by a conservative''''' for sure.

This is not a left vs right issue. There are always the most extreme of extreme psychopath radicals that come out of the woodwork when the opposing party is in power. This is NOT a new thing. It is a human thing. We are just seeing the horrible reality more because everything is filmed nowadays. Political violence and assassinations are FAR from a modern phenomenon. In the United States? Seriously? Obviously, this is TERRIBLE. Truly TERRIBLE. But what's also terrible is there are nefarious actors in government and media who will ABSOLUTELY capitalize on this to further divide us and attempt to make us hate each other, and further strip away our rights. We should not be okay with any of this.

Call me crazy, but I believe a president may stay in office during a civil war, up to ten years total so long as the vice president steps up for two or more years. With no one being able to identify the shooter at this time, how do we know the shooter was a leftist?

Mass deportations, national guard in DC, national guard heading to Chicago, buddies with Putin, Jan 6th, Biden reminding soldiers to remember their oath, RFK trying to make vaccines a choice, and the list goes on. Something is off and people are off the rails.

It may be way out there as far as rational thought, but it's not impossible to think. We've seen a lot of crazy shit in the last decade.

Tribalism is the right word for it and I feel social media has really taken its toll on society. People are quick to find their team and defend it at all costs without weighing in on the pros and cons.
