Game Developers celebrating assassination of Charlie Kirk (Sucker Punch, Bungie, The Coalition etc) [Update] Sucker Punch Dev Fired

This is a very outdated opinion. Simialr to when car salesman continued to believe the consumer still knew nothing about cars before walking into a showroom once the internet became a thing.

Its not.

Almost no one knew who this lady was at all before today. Even most here.

Shes not exactly a public figure. She probably hated kirk long before this, and no one here would've ever known.

I dont think it matters much either, especially since it seems the shit loads of people who work at those companies dont seem to be as unhinged as gaming studio people telling the world their views despite (I quickly googled it) these 3 companies have a combined workforce of approximately 440,000.

A giant company like Nestle has 275,000 employees alone. How come you never hear of any of the gazillion execs and VPs etc... saying dumb stuff on social media causing company shitstorm?

I am sure people are going to happy the day Trump or Putin or Netanyahu Or Zelenskyy dies. I also think it is stupid to make such comment may be now crazy persons are going to target that individual some way or other or worst trying to take his or her life as well.

This is true and the his assassination was awful. But we have to be honest that Charlie Kirk was part of the handle at times. We can condemn his murder without whitewashing who he was. Here's a handful of some things he said:

- Gun violence was "unfortunate" but necessary to protect 2A
- Women must be raped for the survival of the species
- Children should be forced to watch public executions
- He was disappointed that Nancy Pelosi's husband survived the attack
- We cannot allow victims of mass shootings to emotionally hijack the narrative
- Trans people should be lynched
- Called for gay people to be stoned to death

This is absolutely disgusting. Celebrating anyone's death regardless of political views is pure evil.

For anyone who Celebrates this or even gives back handed comments like he deserved this. Look yourself hard in the mirror and ask yourself when Politics took over your humanity and just compassion for another human being?

As for Games: It is no secret that activism has taken over videogames. For every sweet baby inc there is 5 more that you have never heard of. It is why quality of games are getting worse because they chased all the talented people out the door.

I am boycotting Sucker Punk (Fuck ghost of Yotei on any platform) and every other person I see who is celebrating this. If you fall into that group you really are a sick and twisted Human being who needs a Therapist and a priest.

We agree on most of that. I don't agree on the "ideological alignment" bit, but that's besides my point. I'm just talking about the tendency to be liberal and taking liberalism too far. You think Quentin Tarantino may not be secretly relishing this news? Heard he is pretty damn woke and politically motivated too. That has nothing to do with DEI. Which is why I brought up other industries. Conservatives in those industries were a minority even before DEI.

Not making a definitive statement. Just musing to see if there is a psychological affinity between creativity and "fuck the system" mentality.

Of course, creativity, as a general concept, requires a "revolutionary mindset" and that implies subversion and defying authority. In the West, "authority" has been mostly right wing (traditional values, strong religion influence). Progressive parties were mostly a softer version of conservative ones . IMO the mainstream tide turned in the 70s, you could see it in the movies, with more social criticism. Geniuses with cultural impact like Paul Verhoeven or Stephen King are lefties too.

The difference in the present situation is that "talent" or "merit" have become right wing concepts, linked to privilege or social status. IMO, that's DEI mindset in a nutshell. Artists have always been lefties, no doubt. However, talent was the difference maker. As I see it, the hiring criteria has changed. For example, if most writers are also leftties, I can't believe that gaming companies are unable to find good ones. It's impossible, unless they are actively not looking for such traits.

People don't need to know specifically who she is. All they need to know is the fact she is a dev working for sucker punch who are about to release their biggest game in years. Potentially Sonys biggest game in years. She has inexplicably become the face of sucker punch now. Sony will be furious.

so, he was an all-around piece of shit. like anyone who agrees with those points would be a disgusting piece of shit too.

it's still fucked up to celebrate him being killed. even on a purely selfish level it's stupid to celebrate political violence of any kind, as it will only make things worse for everyone.

He was a typical conservative Christian in terms of worldview. Most of the bullet points above are heavily distorted strawmanning used to produce an emotional reaction and justify his murder.

This reminds me of the little girl who sabotage her own Snow White Disney movie recently. How dumb can you be to post something like this right before your main game's launch, regardless of your political affiliations???
They are activist. To them the message is more important than the game success.

He gave a public platform and gave anyone a chance to debate him. He was never nasty, never insulted people, and was changing the minds of young students who are in these indoctrination camps we call college.

They called it hate speech but it was more they hate what he said.

Why only Ghost of Yotei, shouldnt you be boycotting PlayStation Studios as a whole as they own SuckerPunch and should have put out a statement condemning this by now.

Hell even MSNBC did something when their peoples were talking breezy ASAP........PlayStation Studios on the chill.

Do you have sources for those events?

You sound like someone posting the day after George Floyd's death saying, "It's awful that he was killed. But you know he had a criminal record, right?"

Surely they've sacked her by now? Or does she feel she's protected?
You apparently do not know Sucker Punch too well.

They have likely promoted her internally and are throwing a celebration to fete her this Friday afternoon, but will put out some sort of nonsense like (she is suspended while we investigate) hoping it blows over.

If the company doesn't punish the employees for saying something it is seen as endorsing said employees views.

Imagine if one of their employees said they hate black people, or that Hitler was right. Like yeah, freedom of speech, just one guy's opinion. But when the higher ups say and do nothing in response, and the other employees say and do nothing in response, it makes it look to the rest of us, who have no idea what goes on behind closed doors, that they must all support that kind of thinking.
My point was don't yet know what is being said behind closed doors, we should at least wait a day or two to see if there is a response by Sucker Punch and/or Sony, you can't just assume Sucker Punch as a company supports it.

No, both sides are radical. Because "leftists" didn't kill a State Senator and wounded another in Minnesota. They also didn't storm Congress.

Hell, even Trump's assassin wasn't a "leftist", but mentally disturbed dude.

What is needed from both sides is ratcheting down calls for violence and instead they need to ratchet up calls for proper discourse.

I think the most obvious case of a leftist targeting politicians was the 2017 Republican Congressional baseball practice where Steve Scalise was shot and severely injured and it was just luck that many weren't killed or injured that day. The shooter even asked if those practicing were Republican or Democrat before he started shooting a couple minutes after. Yes, lunatics and evil people exist on both sides.

Kirk whether you agreed with his positions or not was actually one that used discourse and enjoyed debate.(I often disagreed with his views). He was murdered during an event doing exactly that. The fact some are seemingly celebrating a guy being murdered and two young kids no longer having a father because they didn't like his political opinions is pretty pathetic honestly.

Pfff, left wing misrepresenting to try and justify murder. Even if you think all that is true, he should be murdered?
I think basically everything the left believes is just as stupid is that stuff, I don't want them all murdered.

^ Good points being made here. With that said, no one in their right mind would celebrate death of another. Regarding your first bullet point, this is the full context a month after a school shooting in 2023 (https://www.npr.org/2023/03/29/1166804786/nashville-school-shooting-covenant-hale):

"I think it's worth it. I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights."

Additionally, this is getting more attention over: https://www.denverpost.com/2025/09/11/evergreen-high-school-shooting-colorado-updates/

Do not take that post at face value. As EviLore EviLore pointed out, that is a highly distorted summarization of views.

And game companies complain about leaked info about their new game will mess up the hype and marketing material.

They should also make sure to rein in their employees too so the person doesnt sabotage any products putting the spotlight on themselves.

Leave it to media kinds of people to drum up some bad PR with their out of control outbursts. No filter. No sense of accountability or right doing. You can always count on one of them saying something stupid politically, against gamers (customers), or sabotaging their own company with bad PR uploading confidential corporate memos to the net first thing in the morning.

You can never trust them to zip it. And they wonder why management treats them like babies not trusting them.

It's actually crazy when you think of it. Grown ass adults working at a company making good money still have to be told by bosses to dont say anything stupid or make fun. Which is exactly the same thing teachers tell kids in grade 2. The similarity in mentalities is amazingly similar despite the gap being 20 or 30 years apart.

Not a fan of social media in general, but every once in a while it is unintentionally useful. Putting a spotlight on those without an iota of common decency certainly qualifies as one of those useful instances.

I don't think it's weak at all. It's as valid an opinion as any other I've seen here this morning. He's simply buying a video game. Don't like it? That's fine. But that's just your opinion.
If this event does not drive you to, AT THE VERY LEAST, stop supporting works in media then I don't know what will.

All these people need to be fired. Freedom of speech can't be equated to being vile evil scum that dances on people's graves.

the last remaining woke strongholds are down to 3 major industries: media/entertainment, education, & medical. & they will cling on to these 3 as long as they can, & continue to live in total echo-chamber obliviousness as long as they do...

What people? "All these people"? I judge people on actions and how they live their lives, not hollow words on social media posts from behind a phone screen, made in the heat of anger after a tragic event that brings out a lot of emotions and causes people to not be at their best judgement. But hey that's just me. Generally it's not wise to make blanket generalizations about groups of people, nor to boycott something. Boycotts are routinely stupid, in my experience. As they often do, they also punish the wrong person/ groups of people.

Freedom of speech in fact, exists to allow people to state vile/ scummy things, not to talk about the weather. There are of course limits such as you can't defame someone or yell Fire in crowded theatre if there isn't one. But generally you can be a total asshole and say basically whatever you want, unless it causes direct harm. That's like, literally what the First amendment is for. If someone chooses, you can in fact be "vile evil scum", and it is protected, generally speaking. In fact that is the whole point.

Meh, the opinion of some is not the amalgamation of many. He was also part of the handle advocating for some heinous things. As an American not living in America looking in at the moment, this feels like another Thursday for gun violence and polarising politics. I'm so glad I'm outta there until things get better.

I've been hearing a lot about the first bullet point. What I read was he said:

"It's worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year, so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights...That is a prudent deal," he said during an appearance at the Salt Lake City campus of Awaken Church on April 5, 2023.

That's a crude way of stating an opinion imo. My question to you is this. I'm not bringing up the hot button issue of gun control but rather asking if that sentiment holds true for other things that kill us but also that we like? Such as swimming pools or cars or airplanes or hospitals. Is it not prudent to accept some deaths from these activities if the overall good is imagined to be greater than the deaths?(not saying anything about the overall good of guns, mind) If I drowned in a pool tomorrow, I would not in my afterlife lobby for the removal of swimming pools. What I'm saying is that we do put a value on life. As a society we do. We weigh these things because every new activity has the potential to kill us. We are a frail species. We have determined some of these activities are so important that we accept some deaths from them, such as having swimming pools or vehicles or hospitals or airplanes. To imagine otherwise is simply naïve. Currently we are in the process of allowing people to be killed so we can perfect the self driving car for example.

Just looking over that list, there are plenty of repugnant things you have attributed to him saying, I'm not actually that familiar with the man. However, even if he has been part of the spear handle, do you not concede that the basic thought behind EviLore EviLore 's post stands? Even if he was part of the problem we still need, no we desperately need to find a solution. This cannot be the way the world works from now on. We are stronger and smarter and better than this.

Dude. This isn't a mean tweet. We are talking about people celebrating the assassination of someone because of their opinion on issues that many people share. In other words, if someone is happy he was murdered that what I am hearing is they would be just as fine with myself or people like me getting murdered since they disagree with me too.
Came to say something like this and this is the most important thing. I didn't agree with Kirk on a decent number but did on some of from what I watched from him. Does that make me being killed a good thing for them also? If so, why would I ever spend money to support them.

It's just an insane concept and it's even hard to comprehend. So many of us disagree on topics, whether it be politics or religion etc, but I've never wished death on people with different beliefs. Not only that, but to actively celebrated in front of the public. It's just beyond gross behavior.

I have to imagine SP takes some type of action here. We've seen people in this industry be fired or let go for much much more frivolous things.

No one's trying to justify his murder. We don't want to whitewash his legacy. He had abhorrent views. If he was typical Christian conservative, we have a long way to go.

Of course that point stands. That's why Charlie Kirk being part of the handle is part of the full story.
