Two Months After Firing Over Charlie Kirk Comments, Ghost Of Yotei Dev Blames Harassment Campaign, Not ‘Bad Joke’

It's just a stupid dumb inside joke.

You think I don't know that? lol

"Full disclosure, the joke was not in the best taste," Harrison, who had never been formally reprimanded during her tenure, said. "But at no point did anyone ask me to delete it. At no point did anyone ask me to apologize — and for the record, I would have. I would have worked with PR to write an apology. It feels like nobody investigated the harassment me and my coworkers were receiving."

You couldn't just do the right thing on your own, huh? That's the problem and why you'll probably make the same mistake again.

I thought that after Mercunte got fired and changed her career to serve French fries in McDonalds she would have stopped bullshit related to videogames, but seems it isn't the case.

Hours later, Harrison was invited to a video call with someone she had never met, a member of Sony's human resources department. Within 10 minutes, she no longer had a job.
Sony's HR member was Jin Sakai. :messenger_beaming:

This was the best thing the gaming community did this year. If The Game Awards were actually decent, the Best Influencer 2025 award would go to Asmongold.

Remember the good old days when Sony was ok with its employees publicly celebrating people being murdered? Me either.

They have a duty of care to every other employee to not ignore a huge warning sign like this, as well as a need to cover their own ass against the risk of her following in the footsteps of her heroes. They definitely do not want to be in a position where she brings her fight against 'fascism' into the office, after they have had this warning sign and ignored it.

This will likely be a concern for other potential employers too. She probably wouldn't perform the acts she was celebrating (they prefer others to do that part), but if she ever did, the employer being aware of the comments may expose them to liability. Why even take this risk?

I don't like cancel culture but don't cry when your weapon is used against you.
Difference is, with them, they were digging things up from 15+ years ago to get people fired. Hence, "cancel culture."

This shit, they said in real time, in current year. That's more "accountability culture" with companies and/or institutions (teachers, doctors, etc.) not wanting that type of person or heat…

Due to the very type of "walking on egg shells" these zero accountability narcissistic personality disorders created.

And they still refuse to be humbled or practice tact. Total lost causes, really.

Imagine having to be asked to be a decent human being.

Luckily no one here ever says anything stupid so it's easy to laugh at someone for losing a job they had for 10 years over an awful joke.

Cancel culture sucks. Period. There was a group of activists scouring the internet for any of the "wrong type" of Kirk comments. Lame.

Maybe there's a type of reprimand short of using your livelihood that would be fitting for a stupid comment posted on social media.

All other shit aside, a bad joke alone rarely will get you fired. A harrassment campaign from potential customers has a much better chance.

As someone who likes to be able to make a joke about just about anything, this growing trend of rallying people to contact employers and getting people fired for a bad joke seems pretty fucked to me.

I want to live in a world where you can make a bad joke and not have it cost you your job. If you disagree with someone's joke, you can get called out for it, but firing is a bit much.

This stuff always cuts both ways.
You might dislike what they said in this instance, but people are going to dislike what you say too.

If you cheer this shit on, I hope you're ready to lose your job for an unpopular opinion someday.

The joke was really dumb but is seems nobody learned an important lesson - companies are not your friends, they will let you go without blink if it suits them. My guess is the management didn't give a fuck about the guy, but the harassment destabilised the work of others

How about people just stfu in the office? You can joke at home or with your mates, not at work. Why is this so difficult to understand?

No surprise these mentally retarded and evil people would cheer for the death of people that don't agree with their evil sick upside down world views. They are always the biggest hypocrites, the actual racists, the most sick and evil ones. And their supporters too which will have the nerve to call sane people hateful or bigots for not accepting obvious sick views but then they'll go and agree with these people at cheering for someone's death all because these people aren't insane and won't agree with their pathetic, disgusting, and wrong views.

Glad they're fired.

It wasn't an "awful joke". It was an awful comment by an awful human being that they stood behind 100%, and one that other devs and people in the industry retweeted because so many people are apparently degenerates who cheer political assassinations for people with dissenting viewpoints. Don't downplay the issue and act like this moron is the victim.

I don't seem to remember Jaffe giving a shit about cancel culture coming for anyone right leaning? Love to be proven wrong…
