Game Developers celebrating assassination of Charlie Kirk (Sucker Punch, Bungie, The Coalition etc) [Update] Sucker Punch Dev Fired

Weird stance. I can guarantee that you will find people who you don't agree with regardless of where you go. The PC space isn't free from opposing opinions.
A guy died. The killer left a family with two kids without a father. This shit goes way over the top and isn't just a common "disagreement." Sony and the studio urgently need to issue an apology for this.

Dunno the guy who got killed and couldn't care less about USA politics. But if everytime someone involved with some project says something I dislike, I probably wouldn't consume most of things I do, specially music. Also, I find pretty bizarre that people condone the people who dislike the Harry Potter Author (forgot ger name) and don't consume the universe poducts but will suddenly boycott a product based on something someone who isn't the main person behind a project said somewhere.
Fuck that, I tend to separate the work from the autor. If I ever like a thing, the author (or the team behind it) could be the biggest asshole in the universe, I will still consume the product the way I want.

Not sure if already posted.

Geez... I'm SHOCKED. Grubb is a cunt! Wow! How did we not ever know that?! Guy always has been and always will be a piece of shit BUT, because he spews out leftist narratives, he gets to say what he wants.

Again, if someone from the left had been assassinated for what they said and someone from the right was mocking them, what would happen within the gaming sphere???

Let's just take this on face value.

She literally grave danced. She didn't do anything noble or brave. That's standing up to fasicsm?

She went on social media and celebrated murder of someone with different political opinions.
Person that got murdered loved guns so much he stated sometimes people die by them and that's ok. Rest in piss

Hard pass. Boycotts are stupid. Frequently. And they also usually punish the wrong person/groups. All around not effective.

I'd also point out how counter-productive it is for the group of people who historically always associate themselves more closely with freedom of speech & civil liberties to call for a boycott because someone said something bad that they don't like.

Situations like this seems like a lot of people tend to forget about the Bill of Rights and why we have it in the first place. 🤷‍♂️
I think you misunderstand. They're not asking for the government to come in and shut the company down, they're asking for a boycott from consumers against a vile company.

Nobody is going to put him in jail for his speech, but we also don't need to purchase his products. That's called the free market.

CK and his legacy will have a profound effect on so many aspects of American culture. I hope gaming is one of them. His death has shined a bigger light on the lunatics who have infested this industry and I think it will be a catalyst for faster course correction. At least that's my hope. Their down fall will be their narcissism and the fact they just can't fathom the idea of keeping their "business killing" opinions to themselves. It might not happen instantaneously but over time developers will realize that it's just not worth it to employ these freaks. The culture war has been won but it will take a bit longer to see the full effects in gaming. We're still seeing titles that were developed during a very woke moment in time. Hopefully this tragedy helps speed things up.

She removed the job title from her bio so it's assumed she was fired but SP should probably clarify.
Interesting

Anyway judging by her post, she would rather be a proud activist. I do agree with her that we do not like fascism but she is barking on the wrong tree.

He said some pretty messed up stuff, esp about women, children and people of color. He wasn't exactly a good role model when it came to stuff like equality, tolerance etc....so I'm not exactly sure why people are trying to prop him up as if he was a caring humanitarian of ALL peoples.

That said, no one deserves to lose their life just because you heavily disagree with their rhetoric. No one should be "celebrating" mindless violence/killing. Nor should they "have to" mourn someone they didn't see as a "good person" in life.
Dont remember him saying anything messed up except supporting israel.
For leftists even saying such a simple thing like there is a hierarhy in relationship/marriage, such as top is a god, then man, then woman and at the very bottom are children or that wife should be obedient to her husband already is super triggering- their minds got infected and completely corroded by wokeism/feminism unfortunately :messenger_astonished:
And yeh- women get lied to by feminism- if u wanna have a husband u gotta submit to him- that doesnt mean u are worse than a man, just if u are in longterm relationship/marriage u should happily submit to the very special man(likely 1%er) u have chosen, u submit to ur boss at work and he doesnt give a damn about u, so for ur husband that loves, provides for u and protects u even at the cost of his very life- submission of a wife is prerequisite ;D

That doesn't make any sense. It's his personal X. That wouldn't even be legal to do. A company forcing its employees to clear their personal social media account posts with them? It doesn't belong to them and would be an invasion of privacy among many other legal problems. That is definitely not a thing.
Makes perfect sense. You represent the company you work for. The company is funding a multimillion dollar project they don't want employees torpedoing the chances of success.

I subcontract for big multinational oil companies for example and we are told what we can and cannot do on social media. Don't comply and you are out of a job.

Shut the fuck up and do your job basically.

What company is being vile in this forinstance?

Well that is progress. Maybe now I can still enjoy the game of a company I've been a big fan of (up until now) but I might just have to get it used, for good measure. No way in hell they're getting my $70.

What I'm saying is you can't compel your employees to clear their personal social media accounts. That's what you said they should do. I'm pointing out you can't do that and that's not a thing. I'd also point out it's an egregious invasion of privacy among many other things and clear violation of 1A, among other major legal hurdles.

she will be fine.

she will find a ready and willing job opportunity at numerous other developers. Seriously.

Since she is in Seattle, would not be shocked if she is snatched up by Bungie or 343 by the end of the month. And they are both lost social justice causes.

This only upped her cred.

As long as she stays away from Eastern devs I don't give a fuck where she goes.

"Opinions are my own", aren't. As I pointed out in #506 (geezus this thread is long!), this controversy would stain every attempt from Sony to communicate on social media, YT comments & blog posts.
Just look at the replies on Yotei's last tweet.

What is posted on social media isn't an invasion of privacy. Many employers will scan people's social media before they hire them. If it is publicly accessible then anything goes. And an employer can ask an employee to remove posts from social media especially if they are doing so while stating that they work for the company. The employee has complete freedom to refuse. The employer has the freedom to fire them. It works both ways.

It's not just about having an opinion. Celebrating the cold-blooded death of a young man is a serious sign of psychopathy. What company in its right mind wants someone like that on its team?

Some people are treating this as an "opinion," as if it were something like "I prefer Coke to Pepsi."

"Making a stupid tweet is far more valuable than my "Dream Job" because people who say a few things I disagree with are EXACTLY the same as a group of people who massacred millions of innocent people with gas chambers and torture camps and deserve getting shot and ridiculed.

Get bent, dickhead.

Clarky was saying they should have to get their posts cleared before they publish. Which is obviously not a thing, not legal, etc. no one is arguing what you are saying above. He said they should have to get their posts cleared before they post and obviously no, just a ridiculous idea and not that a thing that would ever happen. Not in a free society, anyway.

You do know Charlie kirk shit on innocent guys who got murdered even tho they had kids...right.

Have you seen the internet? People shit on people who died even tho they had kids literally everyday. Hell, people shit on entire populations of people going through genocide and don't get fired. Snowflakes.

I guarantee she ends up at a studio MS owns. They doubled down on all the DEI. She'll be some hero there.

Sony probably saw the preorders dropping and knew this bitch is costing them money.

I didn't read what he said that way. He said he is "told what we can and cannot do on social media". That doesn't sound like every post is cleared. More like they are given instructions on what they can and cannot say. Considering all the "stop big oil" loon types in the world, I can't say I'm surprised.

But they were employed ten years before the incidents of this week…? What are you asking for exactly?
I am not asking for anything, only explaining to you that calling for a boycott (of which I wasn't, simply injecting myself into a comment you made) has not thing to do with the Bill of Rights. Can just say you were mistaken and move on.

I don't care if "the entire internet" does this. It just proves how rotten online culture can be, not that it's acceptable. Celebrating someone's murder isn't "just an opinion." It was literally a public display of cruelty. It's no wonder Sony is being criticized on social media.

Anyway, I'm glad she was fired; Sony has every right to protect itself from people who can't see the line. All that's missing now is a public apology.

Cancel culture really cutting the other way today huh

You know what is really sad? If you listen to these far left crazies who celebrate this, They care much more for Gaza or Palestine much more than their native born countrymen.

Self-loathing is very on-brand for the far left.
