Game Developers celebrating assassination of Charlie Kirk (Sucker Punch, Bungie, The Coalition etc) [Update] Sucker Punch Dev Fired

There's literally nothing fascist about Charlie Kirk. Ffs, the guy just wanted to converse and debate college kids. A real fascist wouldn't hesitate to use any form of violence to their political opponent. Sometimes I wish there are actual fascists group in America that would show these people what fascism actually looks like because it ain't nothing like some milquetoast conservative guy having a debate that they are so scared of. Libshits are absolute retarded.
Charlie Kirk said it best himself, paraphrasing, "they can't debate and their ideas are incredibly flawed, so they have nothing left but to use violence to try and murder the cause and our message."

You're absolutely entitled to your opinion, but I don't believe reasonable and understanding people tend towards celebrating an assassination and/or 'joking' about it in a very public way. Nor do they double down on it after receiving criticism for their tasteless words. No matter the internal conversations, she put Sucker Punch and Sony in an untenable position. It may not always have been so, but there are now consequences for that and rightly so.
As do you and I can't say I disagree with you. But still reality is often more nuanced and complex than what it seems to be from a distance.

That's what is happening. Cancel culture was evolving and getting stronger for about 10 years (alongside this Woke culture), and since 2022, it has been declining. While Woke culture hit its peak in 2020, Trump's second term threw a wrench into the movement's momentum

When Cancel Culture didn't work (losing power), they moved the goalposts and started advocating and inciting the killing of those they disagreed with. Don't lose the plot or the timeline. The "slim chance of changing everyone's opinion on things" only required the assassination of someone debating at a university
True, the tolerance of people towards each other declined massively in a short time due to propaganda and hate/fear mongering. It's a sad reality, yet change for the better is possible.

It is somehow very ironic that everybody is crucifying this developer(for good reason), when the person who died is guilty of the exact same shit. Kirk literally mocked and made light of Pelosi's husband assassination attempt. To the point that he asked his audience to bail out the suspect and called him a patriot. That is condoning political violence

Should Kirk have been canceled or boycotted?
You can easily make the argument that what Kirk did was way worse because he had a platform that millions of people followed. The hypocrisy by some people here is unbelievable.
Should Kirk have been canceled or boycotted?
He might have been, maybe, 5–7 years ago.

But you are losing the plot and timeline. He wasn't canceled because cancel culture has been in decline. The Johnny Depp trial was a massive hit to that movement.

And again, the moment "cancel culture" lost effectiveness, those people started advocating for the killing of people they disagree with. calling everyone nazi, bigot, racist, transphobe etc..

You get up in arms only when it fits your political narrative
I'm just offering context of why American culture is where is at.

I don't give a shit about politics. I believe if you're partisan, you're retarded. I'm pragmatic

but when push comes to shove, they do exactly that.

There's cancel culture and there's cancel culture. Context is important. Relishing the idea of killing someone you simply disagree with is a whole different level of obnoxious, especially when it actually happens, and I have no problems with pressure being put on employers to let such people go.

Is there any evidence to believe she was actually fired, apart from her own statement?

Sucker Punch need to confirm this
Does her statement even say she was fired? I didn't read it that way. If she was why would she say 'if' she would know why she was fired. I just reads as more defiance to me. But then I've been drinking so I could be reading it totally wrong!

I'll be sure to condemn them in a thread about right-leaning game developers celebrating, God forbid, the assassination of a left-wing pundit.
I am sure there is some evil right people. With that said the major majority of evil has been the left the last decade or so. If the matters were flipped and this was a democratic leader, they would be "protesting" in the streets by tearing their communities down.

She should be fired in my book. I'm not buying their game anyway so go ahead and keep her on and waste company resources.

I understand what you're saying. Violence has no place in any society.

Just like the assassin of Melissa Hortman and her husband by the right wing nut jobs
Or the attempted murder of Pelosi and her husband by the right wing nut jobs
Or when Charlie Kirk said that George Ffloyd's death was only an overdose
Or when the right wing nut job killed the kids at Sandyhook

So much violence. :(

I just want to say that this same thread on another website which may or may not be purple-like is very delicious for the simple fact that everyone is misgendering the dev who got fired.

Now that's humor. Multilayered in its irony.

Zero chance Kirk would ever get canceled. A large portion of his followers agree with those abhorrent views and find it funny. Just as extreme people on the left have shown their inhumanity in the last day. The moral superiority in here is so hypocritical

Does anyone know for a fact that she got fired and isn't just faking it? I saw some picture of someone asking her if she got fired and she didn't say either yes or no.
Do we have absolute clarification on this? I was going to pre order just before release but I'll do it now to show support if this is true.

This isnt cancel culture, this is people failing a public civility skill check.

Nobody would have cared what they said about Charlie Kirk a week ago, or what they say about him in a month or so from now, but these retards just couldn't wait to virtue signal and selfishly let the world know their shitty opinions about a man who everyone saw get brutally shot, in public, in front of his wife and kids.

Do they though?

Really?

Because as far as I'm concerned they might as well be a pimple on my arse at this point.

They made their bed, huffed on the woke oxide, employed complete fuck ups and will now be marred 🤷‍♂️

If these people want to run into the ground what was once beloved companies that once upon a time created some quite memorable games only to turn it into a complete slop house

Who gives a shit?

I sure don't. Fuck em.

I can only hope that the creative devs, the ones who maybe didn't feel could speak out, the ones who were actually putting in the graft, who do have some creativity left, land on their feet after this. The ones who no doubt suffered somewhat under these obnoxious vacuous pricks.

As Asmond said, and to be frank, I've stated on here more than once in the past. These places need a purge. It's absolutely killing creativity and any sense of normality

And for what?

Why would it make any difference? The fact that she felt comfortable posting stuff like that is a strong indication that the studio is ideologically captured. I'd wait for trustworthy people to play it and report back. Not as if there is any rush to play it.

Ghost of Yotei having ERA and GAF canceling preorders because no one knows wtf is going on lmao.

I'm sorry...imagine using your work twitter account to celebrate someone dying. People are losing touch with reality. Imagine telling that to your kids or husband (apparently it was a woman): "I was fired. i just celebrated someone getting shot and killed and now i'm not working" like...wtf did you expect?

Do you get all of your info from mainstream slop? The dude who attacked Paul definitely wasn't right wing, the media pushed that dumb narrative though.

evil-defeated.gif

These lowlifes think they are actually fighting something by making a tweet.

Charlie Kirk said it best himself, paraphrasing, "they can't debate and their ideas are incredibly flawed, so they have nothing left but to use violence to try and murder the cause and our message."
Taking one quote and omitting every other hundreds of shitty and hateful things he's said sure is something. Here's a couple:

"We must also be real. We must be honest with the population. Having an armed citizenry comes with a price, and that is part of liberty... We need to be very clear that you're not going to get gun deaths to zero. It will not happen. But I think it's worth it. I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year, so that we can have the Second Amendment,"
Kirk was asked what he would want his daughter to do if she were 10 years old and pregnant following rape. After calling the scenario graphic, he responds, "The answer is yes. The baby would be delivered."

"Black women do not have brain processing power to be taken seriously. You have to go steal a white person's slot."

"This is something that I hope will make Taylor Swift more conservative," he said. "Engage in reality more… Reject feminism. Submit to your husband, Taylor. You're not in charge."

"Thou shall lay with another man, shall be stoned to death. Just saying... The chapter...affirms God's perfect law when it comes to sexual matter."

I was prepared to defend the assertion that Kirk was not a moderate, of course talking about policies he advocated for, not if he can be a nice guy. If you want to argue that Trump is a moderate, thats when I will check out. Its got nothing to do with not having anything of substance to say. Its like someone drops into a debate with links about why the earth is flat. I'm just not going to go there. You can convince everyone else here and I won't reply to you further. Have fun.

I posted links and provided points for why he isn't "far right." A large part of his talking points are what Bill Clinton and other democrats used to say regarding unions and illegal immigrants. I also pointed out that the Teamsters union refused to support the Democratic candidate for the first time since 2000, despite allegedly facing someone "far right," which is why unions and blue collar workers have been trending Republican lately. You never denied this or refuted anything. Have you considered that responding to the point might make your case more compelling?

Your "I'm not doing that here" is a deflection. Maybe try explaining why it's wrong without plugging your ears and going "lalala I'm better than that?" Because it's just flat out embarrassing.

Why so many on the left refuse to engage in civil debate and instead resort to mudslinging is beyond me.

Making controversial political statements on social media when you're part of a game studio, right on the cusp of a game's release for that matter, is such a deeply selfish and autistic thing to do. You're representing the company you work for, and the team of people who crunched and worked passionately on the game. Devs spend years making a game, not knowing if it'll be a success or not. Then you go ahead and you say something on social media that potentially hurts your upcoming game's sales, and puts your studio in a negatively light.
I mean, she literally said she doesn't care in her triple-down statement. Apparently, none of that matters compared to "standing up to fascism," AKA, supporting violence against non-violent political opponents. What a fucking ghoul.

Yeah the more I've looked into this guy, the more I realize he was absolutely not a saint, and invited an atmosphere in his life where an outcome like this was much more likely to occur. I'd say it was karma in a sense what's happened here: the energy you put out in the world eventually returns to you tenfold.
Fuck that noise. I guarantee you this: Your "looking into him" is cursory and skewed. Right now, there are clips and quotes taken wildly out of context or twisted to the point of forgery to make him look more extreme than he ever was. Every single last tidbit of his "worst takes" brought up in the other thread falls apart on further examination. This is someone who's done hundreds or thousands of hours of public speaking, debates, podcasts, interviews, etc. Anyone just looking into it now is going to have zero idea.

Nothing he's actually said or communicated signs him up for this karmic nonsense you refer to. Have to say thicc, it smacks of sheer ignorance. Putting aside the kinds of human monsters that exist out there in the real world, you can and will find real radicals in the political commentator sphere who even hated him for being too milquetoast. Insinuations that he "deserved it" somehow ratifies their message that the answer is actual extremism.

I'd say it was karma in a sense what's happened here: the energy you put out in the world eventually returns to you tenfold. Except in cases where karma suddenly fails (i.e all the kids who die in school shootings, considering those kids never did anything wrong or held/advocated beliefs that hurt anyone, and I personally don't believe in preordained destinies).
He "invited an atmosphere?" You are literally making the "she was asking for it" argument.

I'm just wondering what kind of discourse a person has in their private and work life, that they feel safe enough saying stuff like that publicly. Obviously it didn't appear from a vacuum.

The Swats need to enter Roblox's offices and start beating people up, from the first guy that opens the door to the last exec in the Board Room. Reality is becoming worse than South Park's deleted scenes.

I don't like that phrasing either, but I get what he was trying to say. Gun deaths are an unfortunate consequence of guns being legal.
even if guns were illegal, gun deaths ll still follow, look at my country for example ( Brazil ), we have a highly restrictive gun control that is made by Federal Police and The Army, guns over here are expensive as fuck and bureaucratic as hell to get from legal means, so most of the guns circulating into the country are illegal and even with all this control, we have more gun deaths than you guys over there having easy access to guns.

imo the only thing that will reduce gun deaths is education or the eradication of guns in the country.

I respect the shit out of Sucker Punch for following through with this. They could have just ignored the vocal minority (most people had no idea this had happened) but they did what had to be done.

Honestly I cant imagine myself buying western more specifically US games ever again ... the leftist rotten is too dip in all those studios for me to give any kind of money to this people, this creature that got fired from SP is like the tip of the woke batshit crazy iceberg, anyway they wont miss my money, Im nobody, but Im sure as shit wont help finance this market any further until I can sense some real change, if it ever comes.

Until then there's a lot of games from other places/devs to keep me occupied.

Well, it was in his own words.

Oh wait. I take it media which opposes "your" view is wrong.

I fully understand.

You're one of them. Going to ignore you now.
No, I just don't listen to any corporate news and you shouldn't either.

His history online had no such evidence of rightwing. Not saying he was leftwing either, just not what the trash corporatemedia narrative was portraying.

I'm not American so my thoughts of your politics and culture means less then nothing. But I like to belive that seeing a fellow human, in their prime, bleeding out in front of their family would incite at least a modicum of sympathy from most mentally healthy people.

Being gleeful, in a public space (digital or not), over someone's gruesome murder is trash behaviour and should receive a large amount of push-back.

I mean nothing gives me more pleasure then seeing Alyssa Mercante working as a waitress. But if she was murdered because of her retarded opinions I would be horrified.

Personally the most violent reaction I have to stupid opinions is agressive eye rolling, a bad case of deep sighs and a near lethal case of ridiculing. Promoting murder of people you disagree with is so fucking wild.

This is the right take. You are saying the part some people here are not getting. Celebrating murder is abhorrent, I can't believe it's even being debated which is what I'm seeing all over.

This isn't "cancel culture" issue, this is a be a responsible and respectful human issue.

Absolutely this. He was no saint and said a lot of shitty things but noone deserves to die like that. His poor kids are going to be traumatized for life.

Bruh, this is what happens every damn time 21st century leftist politics creep in. First they rotted movies, then TV, then comics... and now they've infected gaming too.

I honestly hope it blows up in their faces — mass layoffs, blacklists, the whole deal. These clowns need to be purged from the industry once and for all

In general I agree, but that seems like maybe too broad a brush. I know that I, for example, wouldn't shed any tears if someone like Putin were to be assassinated. And no, I'm not saying that Charlie Kirk was like Putin, I don't know anything about him. Just that, if you truly despise someone, it seems rational to 'celebrate' their death. The thing is, very few people deserve to be despised in that way.

Top Bottom
