I knew there would be repercussions and rightfully so but I don't think the whole studio should be boycotted because of one stupid person.Good. Fuck her, hopefully she never works again in the videogame industry

Knowing that this is the mindset of someone involved with making the game is a monumental turn-off. I don't care that a game developer has an opinion that I might not agree with. The world is full of people who will disagree with you on everything from politics to pizza toppings. But they already heard the voices and fired the dev. Boycotting is still your prerogative but just saying in case you didn't notice the update
I buy every Sony first party title outside of sports and MP only games as I am a mainline PS gamer.
I will not be purchasing Ghost Of Yotei.
I could care less about sociopolitical disagreements but celebrating the murder of other human beings is demonic behavior and I refuse to reward it. There are lots of people I disagree with in life. Some of them with every fiber of my being. I do not wish them dead or physically harmed. Open dialogues and discussions and the exchange and debate of ideas is how people learn, grow, and evolve. Silencing voices through intimidation, fear, cancellation, violence, and outright murder set us back further and further as a race every time it happens and strengthen the strain, devolving us further and further into an Us vs. Them mentality and normalizing violence as free speech.
My boycott of this game will have no noticeable effect. But it takes millions of grains of sand to form a beach. The only relevant way to make our voices heard to massive corporations is to vote with our wallets.
Pendulum swung back hard and fast. Companies doing 180s fast and furious. And the new Sony CEO isnt afraid to gas studios for poor performance. So no surprise when someone gets out of line, managers get the jist of the CEO's low tolerance for stupidity. So any trouble makers will get the boot too. No need for any possibility to feel the wrath of the CEO. Just solve the issue asap before he gets involved.I'm surprised they fired her so fast lol.
Weren't people in here saying others from SP were liking her tweet or whatever? Or was it just the director?
Supposedly other Sucker Punch devs 'liked' her tweeet,I knew there would be repercussions and rightfully so but I don't think the whole studio should be boycotted because of one stupid person.
I don't see any reason to do that. My selling my PS5 isn't going to make any impact to either Sucker Punch or Sony. They have already received their revenue for the hardware and software. It's not like selling my PS5 somehow takes it out of their hands. So you gonna be selling your PS5?
SuckerPunch is a Playstaion Studios err studio after all.
No surprise. The Western development industry is full of hateful mentally deranged radical left cunts.
This specific developer was always based in the US, though? And it's not like any actual SIE person has made any similar remark.
You'll have conflicting opinions and ideologies from one person to the next and some are extreme like this bint who got sacked, but I feel something that requires hundreds sometimes thousands of people to create should not be put to the side because of a vocal minority.Supposedly other Sucker Punch devs 'liked' her tweeet,
Also if you watch Asmongolds video, some other devs from elsewhere posted horrid tweets, and a few of them funnily enough were former Sucker Punch devs.
It seems it may run deep in that company.
Do you need to know the man to feel empathy for him and his family? Most of you people don't know who the fuck that man was but now what to be the Captain of the Morality ship. Hilarious.
They will, like all corporations do. The statement that they will eventually put out officially is probably going through several Peer Reviews at the moment before they make it public.I agree, but it would be wise for Sucker Punch to put out a statement.
There is a difference between an opinion and conduct."You shouldn't be fired just for having an opinion!" they all scream without any hint of irony.
All in all I agree, I think people should keep work and life more separate not to trash your company's reputation if you say stupid shit, but I agree cancel culture is bad.Even though what's been said is wrong and extremely distasteful to put it lightly, I feel we should be careful not to incite a witch hunt.
We shouldn't affect someone's life nor livelihood like that. Just saying.
In one of the posts, she updated her Linkedin to say her SP tenure ended Sept 2025.There is nothing that I can see showing sucker punch fired anyone. Other than a tweet with them saying they don't care if they are fired
I think you will find American and some EU studios there, I would paint it more to confirmation bias (people already look in that direction and will find things they are looking for) than anything but you are free to believe otherwiseNot exactly surprising to see Sony Studios feature so prominently here is it.
You can thank the USSR for infiltrating the colleges in the 1960s for this. Demoralization.Def passing on Ghost now. I'm at a loss for words when I'm scrolling on social now. Like I'm 40 and just feel so much soul ache for an America I grew up in but do not recognize now. It breaks my worldview of who I thought we were.
I put my two little boys down to sleep tonight and for the first time in years I felt hopelessness for the world they will come to live in rather than hopeful.
I'll be playing it Day 1. There will no doubt be freaks on the team but I guarantee you there are normal people aswell. Why would it make any difference? The fact that she felt comfortable posting stuff like that is a strong indication that the studio is ideologically captured. I'd wait for trustworthy people to play it and report back. Not as if there is any rush to play it.
late friday afternoon news drop. They will, like all corporations do. The statement that they will eventually put out officially is probably going through several Peer Reviews at the moment before they make it public.
Could this have been handled better? Probably
Of course you should, that's like saying to your boss "you are a stupid ass donkey that doesn't know shit" should not have consequences, even thought that is very often the case."You shouldn't be fired just for having an opinion!" they all scream without any hint of irony.
I don't see any reason to do that. My selling my PS5 isn't going to make any impact to either Sucker Punch or Sony. They have already received their revenue for the hardware and software. It's not like selling my PS5 somehow takes it out of their hands.
I'll just be a lot more judicious in what I buy, and at what price point.
Drew?Mods why is this still open?
They most likely will, this sort of thing must go through legal first and probably the higher ups at Sony, like I said to people yesterday when there was no sacking, be patient, Sony are not a small company and they have to make sure everything is legal and above board before sacking someone or making statements Although, sacking the individual is already a strong statement in itself.I agree, but it would be wise for Sucker Punch to put out a statement.
Maybe - but pretty easy to draw a connection between this thread and why so many American games' stories suck now.I think you will find American and some EU studios there, I would paint it more to confirmation bias (people already look in that direction and will find things they are looking for) than anything but you are free to believe otherwise.
When has Rowling ever invited violence or celebrated the death of trans people? What a pathetic comparison. If someone from Sucker Punch posted that they didn't agree with his views due to XYZ reasons absolutely nobody would want them fired.Just so I understand the psyche of this thread correctly...
One batshit crazy leftist at Suckerpunch celebrating the death of a political public figure = never buy a SP game again/no Yotei
Right-wing, supremacist anti-LGBTs inciting violence on protected groups = it's a bit silly to boycott a game they had little involvement on
Which is it?
Anyway, I hope they catch the guy that did it + fire all those who've been celebrating this.
Nobody wins here.
How the fuck is deciding to not buy the game and cursing these cunt devs the same as asking to cancel the game?Have you looked at this thread?
I mean... i didn't even bother going all the way down page 1.
This is just silly, just as silly as the Left when they wanted to cancel the Hogwarts game.![]()
For clarity. I had no intention of Buying Ghosts of Yotei... I just think this reaction to punish game studios for opinions of random employees is silly.
Holding them accountable yes, but you don't have to make a statement. Companies making statement to appease any group, whether it be right or left leaning is one of the most dumb things you can do. The reason being the mob will never be happy and demand more and more.If the company doesn't make a statement and hold the employees accountable for their divisive words, then its safe to say the entire company is complicit and can be painted with the same brush.
Do not really disagree.Maybe - but pretty easy to draw a connection between this thread and why so many American games' stories suck now.
Except that that has never, ever been the case. They already owned Psygnosis like half a year before the PS1 even launched in Japan. They should move all their development back to Japan. We would get better games.
Would help if you told us who and what you were talking about, or are these just made up scenarios in your head?Just so I understand the psyche of this thread correctly...

This person put Sony and her fellow devs in a lose-lose situation. Don't fire her? Some people boycott and don't buy the game. Fire her? The opposite people boycott and don't buy the game.
Their need for social media clout and being a shitty human being single handedly cost Sony millions of dollars.
Very unlikely to happen. That being said, I don't quite get why people are boycotting a game over a post of ONE (1) employee that has already been fired?Even any backlash they(the dev) receives they will probably just be moved internally to another PlayStation Studio, simply getting rid of senior devs isnt a good idea unless you have a good replacement handy, so better just to move them to another studio.
Why though? What did the Chinese people have done to you? This may be naive, but I feel that by buying stuff from China I'm contributing to world peace. As the famous saying goes: "If goods don't cross borders, armies will."Same concept as "not buying cheap shit from China" – you would have nothing.
I think people would definitely care if a good portion of Nvidia or AMD employees publicly stated that they want to see them and their people dead. Most people should not care about companies employees personal opinion on politics. How do we know what are some political beliefs of Nvidia, Microsoft, Google etc... employees opinion about certain influencer or politicians ? I do not think it matters to much.
As I said in my other comment, this is only apparently an irony, he didn't advocate for political assassinations. That would be the irony. No, I didn't know him. A knife killing would have greatly nullified the ironic death he suffered though, yes.
What's funny (in a twisted way) about this, is that I know that there is some game journalists somewhere that it's itching to write a piece about the "coordinated harassment campaign by far-right misogynist troll incels aimed at intimidating a poor female developer". I wouldn't want to be their editor
As a leftist myself (you can say that? I'm gonna delete it if you can't) I'm ashamed of them, but more than anything else I'm disappointed by the institutions (in this case the gaming industry and the gaming media) that give them cover. This is exactly the point. The response from the right would be much better. The left is currently filled of weird and hateful people with no values... just go and looj the purple forum... very hateful people
Except that that has never, ever been the case. They already owned Psygnosis like half a year before the PS1 even launched in Japan.
Btw, I can assure that people here or everywhere don't give a fuck about the vast majority of SIEJ games. I must be the only person here aware that something like TVDJ exists.
Right-wing, supremacist anti-LGBTs inciting violence on protected groups = it's a bit silly to boycott a game they had little involvement on
settle downGood. Fuck her, hopefully she never works again in the videogame industry
