Peacemaker Season 2 |OT| In what world is he the hero?

Is James Gunn a racist? The utopia world has no minorities and everything is great there.

Swamp Thing Vol 2 153 features an Earth-X analogue where the Nazis never were defeated. In 1995, Hitler's son is the new Führer, married to Marilyn Monroe, who has not commited suicide in that universe. All ethnic groups except white ones had been exterminated, hunger and poverty had been eradicated, and the civilization lived in harmony with the nature, without pollutants.

Very mixed messaging here. How about making "Germany wins WWII" plots unambiguously horrific.

It is probably horrific, for those not in power that is. Our point of view has been restricted to that bubble so far. I'd imagine future episodes will show how fucked up this world actually is.

Hunger and poverty eradicated. Pretty good economics.

I like the jokes more this season and I think the character moments are also better but the story could have been told more efficiently. I feel like having two separate episodes where ARGUS tries to break into Chris' house was redundant. Especially for him to get away, get captured, and then getting away again the next episode. It's like the story is doing the scooby-roo run cycle where the characters aren't actually moving at all.

I think all the jokes with Vigilante are so much funnier this season. Everything with him this last episode is absolutely hilarious.

Vigilante is the star of the show. Guy talking to the same version of himself was something else, also his "bat cave" goddamn 😅😅😅
Makes total sense, he's said he's killed a fuck ton of people, he goes after dealers and had been doing it since before Peacemaker went to jail but I never thought he was hording the stuff.

Just though of something about the issue between the two Vigilantes.

Our Vigilante knows that the other dimension Peacemaker is already dead, so he can just tell himself that and the issue goes away. Other Vigilante might have a problem working with Peacemaker but he won't be trying to murder him.

So here's something silly... I've been seeing a certain group of people claim that the twist was hinted at in this season's dance sequence. They really think that A. They hired a dance choreographer and asked them to hide Nazi symbolism in their choreography and B. that they sold that dance in Fortnite, a game for children.

In any case, Fortnite was forced to take down the emote because of these dummies that believe everything on social media.

Tbought about making a new thread for this but I'm pretty sure most GAFers don't care about Fortnite so I'm dropping it here

Guess you missed when a movie like RoboCop (1987) got a children's cartoon and all kinds of toys in the 80s/90s. :messenger_winking_tongue:
I was actually alive at the time so no, I didn't miss it. But 1987 was over 37 years ago and we are currently in 2025, a time where people are EXTRA sensitive to this stuff. So sensitive, in fact, that they even see symbolism where it doesn't even exist.... like a silly 5 second dance animation.

The animation in question:

Lol.

That makes no sense. Why would the Nazis be white supremacists? Why would it be a utopia? Who came up with the idea of Earth X?

Found it weird that Keith starts honking to alert others when he could have just put on his suit and obliterate poor Ads on the spot.

I guess Gunn really needed his raiders of the lost ark type pursuit shot.

You cannot not see the swastika when you know there is one there, from second 2 to 4.

I understand what people THINK they are seeing but they're not thinking through it clearly. If you overlay the movements it actually resembles an H

And again, there is no way they hired a choreographer to incorporate Nazi symbolism in a comic book show's dance routine in 2025, even if it's within the context of the story. It's just not a wise thing to do and would have undoubtedly been vetoed at some point in the production process.

I'll gladly take the L if I'm somehow wrong but I'm confident that this is just a reach by terminally online people

Haha good catch, with it moving and my mind waiting to see it, it looked picture perfect.
I agree with you they would not have secretly hire someone to add nazi imagery, but i could see Gunn, who is hollywood wonderboy now, convincing the suits that it could be a "fun" easter egg and not that controversial, since of course the nazi universe will be destroyed or something in the end.

When it's basically: "Imagine, if you will, a country without...black or Asian people *horror music* ... a place with only white people! *horror violin* "
And I'm like, yeah I visited Poland last Summer, what's the big deal?

The unambiguous horrors could come from the hunt for neverending racial purity where even brown-haired and brown-eyed white people are hunted down. Where the slightest illnesses, or having a religion would warrant a death penalty. Where if you can't reach a certain treshold for physical strength you're basically deemed an untermenschen. But only doing the "perfect world, perfect people - but without minorities" is incredibly lame. A nazi empire would be a horror for everyone and not a sunny utopia.

we aren't ever told that this universe is a crime free utopia. In fact we see the opposite constantly, there are terrorists, meta-human bad guys, there are still drug addicts and an illicit drug trade, so probably there are still drug cartels, etc. Some of the criticism just doesn't make sense. It is as if people were watching a different show.
