Silent Hill boss says Konami announced three games at once to show it was committed to the series’ future

In a new post on Twitter/X, Okamoto explained that the decision to announce all three games during the same broadcast was a deliberate attempt to assure those fans that Silent Hill had a future, and wasn't just going to be a one-off release to appease them.

"Three years ago, in 2022, we announced three titles – Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill f, and Silent Hill: Townfall," Okamoto said (as translated by Automaton). "We didn't want to just announce a single remake to 'test the waters'. We wanted people to feel how serious we were about reviving the series.

"Developing a remake and a new title simultaneously naturally involves risks, but we wanted to convey our commitment first and foremost. Only when a new game is announced can the future of a series be seen.

"Users won't feel motivated to engage with an IP unless they can sense it has a future. If the company takes a wait-and-see approach, so will the players. The company needs to show how serious it is so that users can get genuinely excited. I think that's only fair."

Okamoto also referred to an earlier post he made, in which he stated that the Silent Hill 2 remake had to be made with both existing fans and newcomers in mind, rather than simply appealing to those who had played the original version, because not every fan returns for a remake.

"It's probably a bit different for anime and games, but with remakes, even if you consider old fans, at best, about half of them will come back, so it tends to lead to shrinking," he wrote. "If you don't design [the remake] with about half new audiences and half old fans in mind, the customer base won't grow."

I guess they are too embarrassed by their VR experiment to mention it. 🤭

Hopefully Townfall delivers a coherent continuation of series. Worst case, Bloober will dive back into the past to recreate original Silent Hill in the best light.

The fact that if Silent Hill 3 came out to day you would be writing this same post...

You guys need a new gimmick to complain about. This one is getting tired lol.
I never liked 3 to begin with. It has terrible enemy design. Never thought I would be forced to fight a giant demon cock in a horror game. Only mainline Silent Hill I have never bothered to replay.

Yeah I think that was a good idea; it definitely gives the series a new wave of momentum. I've bought Silent Hill 2 Remake and Silent Hill F and if the next one is around the same quality as those two then I'll be buying that as well.

Can you elaborate what real sh game actually means?
Only Team Silents interpretation is correct. It means going to the town like in 1-4. Not shoehorning a drug in for a brief mention so you can slap the title on it to sell. Any mention of f is to talk about muh foxes, muh cute anime girl protagonist, muh land of the weeb. f should have been called "Ebisugaoka" or "White Claudia". Not "Silent Hill". Not even Silent Hill 3 was obnoxious with feminist crap.

So only the city is important? Iam not specifically talking about f. I just mean what do people expect from a sh game.

For me its a unique twist on psychology horror.

Don't get me wrong. F is in a way a good game but it is not a good Silent Hill game. The town Silent Hill has always called people to it. Not the drug. Not the cult. The spiritual powers of the town. It's why it is called Silent Hill. It's like taking GTA game that takes place in Vice City and calling it "GTA: San Andreas".

it is a bit weird though that the only two SH games to feature a female protagonist touch on female issues. Why can't we have a female protag in SH that is not about her gender? SH 1,2,4 was good not because the protags were men, but rather because everything on the whole was good and was not specifically about men simply because they were men. Nothing would change in Sh4 if the mc was a woman. SH 2 might, but tell me that a same sex f/f story could not have ended the same way? Look at what the SH1 movie did that turned Harry into what's her name.

I think this is a good direction to work on especially after all that had happened to Silent Hill franchise in the past decade. I even say that Konami made overall good decisions with their current developer list even though personally I'd have a distaste for blooper team themselves and their decisions.

Well the thing about Silent Hill is that the original Team Silent was pretty certain Silent Hill's effects can take place even outside of Silent Hill or else the beginning of Silent Hill 3 or the entirety of The Room could never happen by that rule alone.

So yeah Silent Hill isn't really just "The Town". Its a concept of "the town" transposed into any environment.

The Cockatrice The Cockatrice You're normally one who tells people to actually play, watch, or read something before giving takes that mirror clickbait/grift articles.

Why the change?
I played it and finished it and saw all of its endings and posted my thoughts on the OT a month? ago. One of my biggest purchase regrets. I didnt force anyone to not buy it nor did i read any articles or grifting trash.

I mean, the games have been appreciated and it's an IP that was neglected for so long. If it gets the Call of Duty treatment over the next five to ten years, then yeah, I'd say they're milking it. But I think it's way too soon to say that.

Mind you, I loved SH2R, and I haven't played F, lol. I probably won't until it drops big time. Super excited about the remake of 1 though, and I welcome it immensely. Along with the inevitable remake of 3.

SH2 remake was great, agreed on that. Fuck f tho but dont let me sway you over it. Idc if ppl liked it, but if thats the kind of medium they praise, im out.

Konami is undergoing a reboot, and I hope it's similar to Capcom's RE-Engine.

So far, I've been supporting Konami again.

I can't say I blame you, I've heard and read a lot about it. I think the feminist comment you made was... a bit much personally, lmao. But I can understand being disappointed considering the direction it goes in.

It reviewed well, but I'd like to think that they're also aware of a lot of the negative feedback.

You are not understanding that with Team Silent games you go to Silent Hill because you are called there or you are affects by the spiritual powers of the town by being there. Even the non-Team Silent games have been like this besides of recent. This is by Team Silents design and philosophy. You go to the town in SH3 and SH4. f has nothing to do with Silent Hill. I hate to say it but you are sucker for bad story telling just to justify the title all because they brought some dirt to Japan only to be affected by the title like your Apple products.

I do like to ruffle feathers as you can tell from the replies here. You'd think the people who got triggered would be self-aware, considering the very same people immediately fall for any grifter youtuber drama like Grummz whenever some company they dont like does far-left shit.

Yeah, to make an iteration that doesn't take place, or is directly connected at all to Silent Hill is.... quite a decision. It feels like another situation where they came out with a game, it didn't have its own legs to stand on, so they threw the Silent Hill name on it, lol. I think that's the one thing about it that really turned me off, and I know I'm not alone. I felt bad for all of the players clamoring to find ANYTHING that connects to Silent Hill / other games, lol.

I was thinking about checking it out on the cheap at some point, but I don't know. I'll probably just watch a playthrough and be done with it, lol. I'm happy it reviewed decently for the brand though.

Bring on the 1 remake, bring on the 3 remake. I highly doubt they'd do a remake of 4/The Room, but I'd be down with that too. I'd welcome new games with new ideas too, but it would be cool to have them connect to the town, or the previous games in some way.

Hahaha, that's totally fair, and you're not wrong.
