Pricing talk is very shallow thinking, we see Alienware laptops go for thousands, and because they're consoles and make so many headlines, the price will be irrelevant.

PCs with comparable specs are in the $2000 (DIY) to $3000 (pre-built) range

$900 isn't happening. Did you see how much the current AMD's 395+ AI PCs go for with integrated RDNA 8600? It's over $1000+ and Magnus will be a larger chip.
MS is done subsidizing hardware so I wouldn't be surprised if $1200 is a start and goes up from there depending on the config.

People always get excited about these spec leaps compared to PCs when they leak, but by the time the hardware actually ends up on the shelf there is always one (if not two) new generation of PC components that becomes available in the meantime.

People here seem to think somehow Sony is gonna pump out 500 or 600 dollar next gen system... dunno why they are doing that to themselves.
Just isn't realistic with the overall rise in consumer electronics pricing.

Disagreeing with the PS6 take.
It simply won't sell if it costs too much, the expectation is for a Sony console to sell 15-20 million units per annum, their stock is going to tank if it doesn't happen, so they have to balance that. For instance, if they decide to not subsidise hardware it may end up costing them more long term, with people moving to cheaper options like the Switch 2 and whatever else is available at that time.

You think the PS6 is launching for $150 under the PS5Pro price? Seems highly unlikely. Maybe if the Pro gets a price drop but so far we have been seeing price increases.

No, what's more likely to happen is that the PS5 Pro will get discontinued once (or even before) the PS6 launches.
The PS5 Pro is a premium device catering a hardcore fanbase and shouldn't be taken as a sign of things to come. There's a reason the PS6 is actually shipping with a SKU including a disc drive, something that wasn't the case with the PS5 Pro.

Oh i don't disagree with you there, i just think Sony is going to take the "Too bad" route this time and people are still going to begrudgingly buy it.
Honestly at this point i feel like Sony and MS would be better off combining forces pouring all their resources into a single console together and then focusing on their own games for it.
I know a lot of people wouldn't be able to wrap their heads around that as long as we've all been gaming but imagine a world with less developmental barriers with a unified development process and bad ass games from both companies non stop dropping on it left and right.
I would personally love to only have to buy a single console and be able to play all my older library on it from both systems as well as all new games moving forward.

Consoles with built-in disc drives are never coming back, but for the vast majority of people there's no difference, really. And at least digital-only users now have the option to get a disc drive down the line if they want to, not possible to do if you bought the original 2020 model.

The thing with builds like that is that sure they may be affordable (and you may have to spend time hunting for used parts) but to me the 'will support your entire xbox library, including BC content' is the most important. Otherwise getting just a PC is something I can do today if I wanted to.

With Xbox all but exiting the market, there's quite literally nothing pointing to a cheaper PS6, and quite literally everything pointing to Sony continuing to raise its prices. And that's before factoring in what another two years of this economy, this inflation, and The Orange One's tariff are going to do.

I kinda agree, but I can see a market for it if MS plays their cards right and focuses on the feature narrative instead of the power narrative. The prebuilt gaming PC market is ripe for disruption. If I were them, I'd treat the PS6 as a different market segment altogether, so the power differential becomes irrelevant. Getting PC-like functionality for games with the seamless console-like user experience should be where all the marketing and dev $$$ go.
The Ally X is tiny step in that direction, but still the right direction for MS imo.
It will never hit mainstream numbers. But that's a lost cause already.
