30% faster with the ability to mod games and buy brand new games from key reseller sites makes up for that extra money.

Yea if it's a true pc1200$ PC isnt a bad price at all if its really powerful.
Hey - that's still a cool 1M of sales - it would at least beat the XSX 2TB modelYou think anyone outside of .01% of people are going to shell out $1300 with the state of global economy, just to play Xbox...?
PCs with comparable specs are in the $2000 (DIY) to $3000 (pre-built) rangeMight as well just buy a real PC, than an Xbox if it actually did cost $1200.
That's the codename for the SoC, not the consoleXbox Magnus is also a dumb name too.
The same was true when PS3 launched at 600$ (making the delta even larger) - that argument doesn't work for console sales.PCs with comparable specs are in the $2000 (DYI) to $3000 (pre-built) range
$900 isn't happening. Did you see how much the current AMD's 395+ AI PCs go for with integrated RDNA 8600? It's over $1000+ and Magnus will be a larger chip.$1200 is too much for the leaked specs.
It is about 40% faster i reckon. $899 would be something more realistic.
I am looking to get a Switch2 as a secondary gaming console for the family getover. But it and its games are expensive and holding me back, even though i can afford them. It is just as a second throwaway console, will going to be heavily under utilised and a waste of space.
I am a great example.
Sarah can set a high SRP, but you must get the audience committed to buy and see value from it..

PCs with comparable specs are in the $2000 (DIY) to $3000 (pre-built) range
PS4 $400
PS4 $300/PS4 Pro $400
(PS5 systems below similar with no optical drive)
PS5 Digital $400
PS5 Digital now $450
PS5 Pro $700
PS5 Pro now $750
PS6 Digital $700 minimum.
For now.
People always get excited about these spec leaps compared to PCs when they leak, but by the time the hardware actually ends up on the self there is always one (if not two) new generation of PC components that becomes available in the meantime.
Exactly my thinking.PS4 $400
PS4 $300/PS4 Pro $400
(PS5 systems below similar with no optical drive)
PS5 Digital $400
PS5 Digital now $450
PS5 Pro $700
PS5 Pro now $750
PS6 Digital $700 minimum.
Exactly, PC parts become obsolete in a span of 6 months...
That's why custom/optimized hardware and software in consoles is important
With a Steam machine those are out of the window
No, it isn't.PS6 is unlikely to launch at $600. The Xbox at $1200 I can see.
But current consoles are Steam machines without Steam.
Can't tell if you are agreeing or disagreeing with me.No, it isn't.
Disagreeing with the PS6 take. Can't tell if you are agreeing or disagreeing with me.
It simply won't sell if it costs too much, the expectation is for a Sony console to sell 15-20 million units per annum, their stock is going to tank if it doesn't happen, so they have to balance that. For instance, if they decide to not subsidise hardware it may end up costing them more long term, with people moving to cheaper options like the Switch 2 and whatever else is available at that time.People here seem to think somehow Sony is gonna pump out 500 or 600 dollar next gen system... dunno why they are doing that to themselves.
Just isn't realistic with the overall rise in consumer electronics pricing.

You think the PS6 is launching for $150 under the PS5Pro price? Seems highly unlikely. Maybe if the Pro gets a price drop but so far we have been seeing price increases.Disagreeing with the PS6 take.
No, what's more likely to happen is that the PS5 Pro will get discontinued once (or even before) the PS6 launches. You think the PS6 is launching for $150 under the PS5Pro price? Seems highly unlikely. Maybe if the Pro gets a price drop but so far we have been seeing price increases.

They literally experienced the PS3 to know the effects of doing such thing.Oh i don't disagree with you there, i just think Sony is going to take the "Too bad" route this time and people are still going to begrudgingly buy it.
Will you support me when I'm pricing up comparable PC builds for cheaper by sourcing a bunch of used and old parts off ebay and Craigslist?

I'll enjoy my $3000 beating $1200 hybrid.![]()
Are you sure? Got a source for this? There's a reason the PS6 is actually shipping with a SKU including a disc drive
Tom Henderson:Are you sure? Got a source for this?
Identical to the PlayStation 5 and its detachable disc drive, customers will be able to buy the console individually as a "digital console", bundled with the PlayStation 6 as a "traditional console", or upgrade later by purchasing the detachable disc drive separately.
In this age of diminishing returns and AI upscaling, that isn't much, and certainly not enough to justify the price difference.1.3x
What train were you on before that?Nah, I've been on the same train since last year.
Ah ok. I think I misunderstood you. We are on the same page.Tom Henderson:
This has been the exact model since the PS5 Slim in November 2023 when Sony stopped manufacturing PS5 consoles with built-in disc drives.![]()
EXCLUSIVE - PlayStation 6 is Planned to Have a Detachable Disc Drive on Launch
Insider Gaming has learned that the PlayStation 6 is planned to have a detachable disc drive when the console launches.insider-gaming.com
What train were you on before that?
Consoles with built-in disc drives are never coming back, but for the vast majority of people there's no difference, really. And at least digital-only users now have the option to get a disc drive down the line if they want to, not possible to do if you bought the original 2020 model.Ah ok. I think I misunderstood you. It took us 3 years to build the PS5 Killer and now we're conspiring to murder the Pro in less than a week. It can't be that hard, right? That $200 price bump EVERYONE is angry about gives us A LOT of extra budget when it comes to assembling our brand new PS5 PRO KILLER… Better GPU? What about a new Platform for our Ram and CPU?

No, they are not

Myself andMister Wolf are going to go bargain hunting for some fierce deals in order to make Magnus look like poor value.

I disagree.... The PS5 Pro is a premium device catering a hardcore fanbase and shouldn't be taken as a sign of things to come...
I kinda agree, but I can see a market for it if MS plays their cards right and focuses on the feature narrative instead of the power narrative. The prebuilt gaming PC market is ripe for disruption. If I were them, I'd treat the PS6 as a different market segment altogether, so the power differential becomes irrelevant. Getting PC-like functionality for games with the seamless console-like user experience should be where all the marketing and dev $$$ go.In this age of diminishing returns and AI upscaling, that isn't much, and certainly not enough to justify the price difference.

The Ally X is tiny step in that direction, but still the right direction for MS imo.
It will never hit mainstream numbers. But that's a lost cause already.
