Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

I think Crysis 1was very ahead of its time, no?
Yes, but it ran awfully on hardware of the time. Needed multiple CPU and GPU generations until you could max it out properly. It was also optimised for single core cpu performance, but cpus began focusing on multi-core performance so getting locked 60 or higher at all times was pretty difficult even multiple years later.

In the road to 60 fps in witcher 4, the UE5 team is basically throwing software Lumen under the bus, finally.

"since both approaches fundamentally traces against different representations and have different feature sets, it's really difficult to author lighting for everything once and just have it work out of the box for both paths. And since hardware ray tracing is what we consider to be the future of lumen, we've gone all in on optimizing that, to be usable on consoles on 60 fps."

They're attacking a lot of pain point of UE 5 for the future, including hitching and traversal stutter. They detail a lot of optimization for it going forward and it seems like smart choices and on the right path imo. CDPR fucking whipped them or something because it seems every improvements is strangely tied to Witcher 4 deal.
