The Story So Far...

The Great Strange- a zone in which supernatural phenomena occur at an abnormal rate, where echoes of other worlds and ethereal beings converge and contort reality.

A special military group known as "The Hayward" was formed to investigate and destroy the anomalies within The Strange. For years, the Hayward had done an admirable job of monitoring, handling, and reverse-engineering elements of the Great Strange into their work. Among these Hayward operatives is where your remains found new life.

You are Hayward Generation VII 81363-7, a corpse swathed in iron and arcane. Though a newer model, you are no guest to the Strange and a formidable veteran of its wilds.

Recently, the Great Strange has begun to rapidly expand- its phenomena intensifying to an unseen degree. Current leads suggest the involvement of Hayward Generation I "Avlan", whose disappearance synchronizes with the Strange's sudden proliferation.

Mission Objective: Enter the mining village of Kozanoda where Avlan was last spotted and apprehend the missing Gen I.

Use of lethal force is authorized. Use of paranormal apparatus is authorized. Exercise extreme caution when confronting Avlan. Minimize injuries to civilians and infrastructure. Attempt capture where possible. Mission subject may be terminated if need be.

Link to the OST as well. Really a phenomenal soundtrack that sets up a stellar and unique atmosphere.

Will be playing this a good chunk of this weekend between Arc Raiders.

I have been eyeing it for a while, I will get it eventually, just have too many stuff to play right now.

I'll drop the bucks and play some on steam deck if it runs well enough on it.

Keep reading this game's name as "Mothra"

Nothing. Seems the dev is very pc indie without any known publisher behind it. Self published.

Devolver digital need to get in touch!

Pleasantly surprised to see an OT for this one Arsic Arsic ! It was one of the standout previews in the Iron Pineapple Soulslikes YouTube series. Will have to pick it up.

Are there any nice filtering options? CRT filter or low res chunkyness or anything? Maybe texture filtering (though that might look like ass, Idk)? A bit too sharp as it is (I don't dislike unfiltered low res textures in many other games so it's not just that). Game seems cool, like Blood West but weirder.

Oh, same developer of Vomitoreum. No wonder it immediatly reminded me of it, using of GZDoom and everything.

Yeah I just got turned into scum head because of this game. Several cool titles to check out!

I'm fortunate that I get some cool recommendations from places to help shine light on stuff like this.

There's so many things to find if you go look for it but it just takes a lot of time to sift through it all.

For every ball x pit that's easily a smash hit you get a title like this or lunacid that just needs a good indie publisher to push them to success. This is clearly a wonderful product but it getting attention in the flooded market is rough.

Hope to see more games from this dev!

Played this for a bit last night. So far, I'm liking it. The controls (with controller) take some getting used to, and the tutorial messages on the boards you read don't change to reflect the fact that you're using a controller (at least they didn't for me, playing via the Ally X). I like the world crafted and the setup for how you enter the world is pretty novel. I'm definitely happy with my purchase and will keep going on it.

Finally found some time to play this one. It was pretty good! It's a very strange and charming game, it's for sure not for everyone but it was a cool experience for me. The game is around ~10 hours long.

It's a methodical FPS where you explore semi-linear levels. You can approach these levels in any order you want, even though the intended way is to follow the numbering (1 to 5). Each world feels unique and well-crafted, some of them are quite creative. I didn't like the tutorial level and level 1-1, but starting from 1-2 the game will start to grip you, so don't give up at the beginning.

The focus of the game is on the weird atmosphere, and it delivers it beautifully thanks to the weird style, stylized graphics, sound design and eerily designed enemies. The gameplay is not super deep, but it works well for the type of atmospheric game it wants to be, don't expect it to be a masterclass of gameplay, but it's satistying enough. As I said the game is very atmospheric, it has an immersive sound design and the sound effects are very crunchy and old school.

There are a lot of weapons to use, and there is a nice system where you can melt these weapons to get resources to upgrade the weapons you actually use. The melting is permanent, it seems a waste but it's built into the gameplay, so melt away! Having too many weapons becomes a hindrance since they share some of the ammo types.

I found the background lore to be interesting, each level shows you how this entity called "The Strange" have an effect on different worlds and people (for the worse). I mean, it's nothing amazing but it keeps your attention.

The game is basically made by a couple dudes so it can be a bit janky at times, but at some point that became part of the charm.

Basically an excellent game to play if you want to try something weird and atmospheric, as long as you are fine the gameplay being slow paced and simple. This is not a boomer shooter.

It gets a recommendation from me.
