What will be PS6s unique selling point?

Nice history lesson. Too bad that console GPUs are stuck with the PS1 architecture and have no new features every generation. Fun fact it's so much so that they have been brute forcing texture warping all these decades.

Well the PS5/XSX brought support for Raytracing and Mesh/Geometry Shaders, the generation also pretty much eliminated loading times.
When I go play older consoles i always wonder how we actually stomached those loading times.

The console's value for money

It seems clear to me that Microsoft wants to push the price above $1000, while Sony wants to stay well below it.

They will come up with some new and totally false marketing BS, as usual.

We had the Emotion Engine, we had the Cell, we had the Power of SSD. All irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

That was my point. You responded to a guy that said: just better GPU and CPU and you then listed the feature history of microchips but the original guy was right. Just better GPU and CPU is what every generation has been offering. The details on why they've been better matter not to the buyer. They just know it's better and that's it. The "imma gonna load the SSD info directly into the RAM" was a nice feat, I'll give you that.

The number 6 that's it

Just better?
Tell that to people who upgraded from AlderLake/RaptorLake to ArrowLake for gaming builds.

Saying its just better is reductive when looking at GPU/CPUs so I extrapolated the selling points of each generation.
Not every generation is worth the upgrade so yes it does matter to buyers WHAT actually makes the CPU/GPU worth the upgrade, said selling points.

This thread regardless of intent is whats going to be the selling point, the poster said its same selling point as CPUs and GPUs......but the same selling point for CPUs especially before AlderLake was near literally nothing, most people skipped multiple generations before upgrading their CPUs.|

From AlderLake the selling point of RaptorLake was what?
From RaptorLake the selling point of ArrowLake is what from a gaming perspective?
Im still on AlderLake cuz RaptorLake and ArrowLake didnt have good selling points.
Im still using an RTX4000 because I dont need MFG the selling point of the RTX5000s.

Simply saying the PS6 will be better is reductive, WHY is it better is the question really being asked.
Its more powerful.....well its not going to be weaker.
What does it do that makes it special?
We dont know.....well I dont know, im sure Sony will have some "gimmick" to sell the PS6 to slower adopters.

The only unique selling point I can see is being the first console with a 6 in the name.

Their games will be on the next xbox too! And will probably even look better lol

True, but that benefits Sony more than Microsoft.

However, Microsoft won't be taking a cut of those games as they'll be sold via Steam. They won't see a penny from those game sales.

Sony on the other hand gets a cut of every Microsoft game sold on the PS store.

The unique selling point will be that it's a new Playstation, which is enough to sell millions (that strategy is already working with PS5).

Another hazy acc with clear Xbox bias raising concerns about Playstation future. Desperation is real.

As to the point - it'll be best value for money, easy-to-use, next gen IQ box especially for SP and f2p gaming

You'll be able to watch 2 friends via sharescreen and play on one friends PS5 via shareplay simultaneously. Other than that, don't know, a new start-up sound maybe?

And hopefully no new fancy input device. Touchpad, gyro, mic and headphone jack are already more than enough.

It's too much to ask for hall effect sticks, that's for sure.

Affordable and convenient for people who don't want to invest time and money into building the ultimate gaming machine: a PC.

Why do people buy cellphones every single year, or why do PC gamers upgrade their components often? It's because people like having the latest and greatest thing and they're willing to shell out to get it.
What fraction of people actually buy cellphones every year and why would you compare a device that you have with you at all waking hours to a console that is tied to your TV?

The PS6 will be a 7 or 8 year update to the last console. I hope the rumors are true of a dockable version. I'll get that for the kids and hopefully the big boy games will be on PC sooner so I can play them with better visuals. That is, if I can afford to update my 4090 to a 6090 and keep both kidneys

I expect that in the first year of two of the PS6 launch, all the studios that wasted a whole gen chasing GaaS money and failed will have new single player games announced for ps6 (... and ps5).

I can't say it unironically, I don't light a candle at the Mark Cerny alter every morning before I leave the house.
I don't either, but it being made by Sony Interactive Entertainment means that it will be the only traditional video game home console in the market, so there is that.

Half of those studios were closed though. And Bungie will not go back to SP games
It's really just Bend and Bluepoint who was heavily affected and both not exactly famous for their stellar SP output

Sony has amazing old IPs that Bluepoint could bring back to life (but it won't happen).

in advance: I haven't turned my PS5 on in months…

What will be sonys USP?

Nintendo has exclusives and the switch can switch.

It will have a cheaper price tag compared to Xbox magnus anus.
Exclusives are over on both sides if sony keeps releasing their games on PC. Hell even hell divers 2 released on Xbox series.

Lets assume PS6 will be 600$. PS+ is another 80$, so for the next 7 years with online Multiplayer = 1160$
Xbox box box thing and free online = 1200$

xbox pc will be 50% more powerful according to rumors, free online MP, multiple stores to get cheap games , Game pass, Xbox BC, emulation up to PS4, backlog of windows games of the last 30 years or so and so on.

What is sonys USP gonna be for next gen?

timed exclusives!? Dual sense 2 with boomerang dildos!?

What do you think?

Wont be buying either on launch...
Seeing as how you appear to be a major XBox fan (or at the very least very anti-PlayStation) fighting the good fight, let me throw this back at you:
Why buy the next XBox over a PC?
Sure, value wise it may be slightly cheaper than building a PC, but how long will that last as prices for PC components come down as new tech is available, why get XBox PC that presumably can't be upgraded?

A lot of the points you mention are already available on PC currently, it doesn't affect PlayStation sales as people want a console not a PC. The PlayStation brand is still very strong and relatively 'cheap' in comparison to PC, it's XBox that I wonder why they would go the PC route seeing as they are then not competing with (only) Sony or Nintendo but instead competing with, and treading on the toes of, other PC manufacturers and PC builders. You think they are not thought of very fondly within the gaming space now, wait until they start screwing around with the PC side of things.

Surprised such an obvious console/PC warring thread is allowed to be honest, we get these kind of FUD threads every time a new console is on the horizon.

Indeed, A good question. while Nintendo put millions in advertisement on kidschannels and also later in the evening and selling Mario Golf/Kart/Tennis etc for the 8th time to a new generation and also have adults market and buying nostalgy. They have a future. Xbox will have a future too as a big software company with Activision etc. Gaming in cloud , trying to compete with Steam. Playstation future?? They are in a strange situation. By giving away the exclusives, they really cut of their arm to be unique. They need to compete on price now. Keep in the 600$ range or lower to avoid users go to PC or steambox/xbox. Or make their own games exclusive again. Sony itself is only making money in playstation and camera's but all other stuff (TV's household etc) is a bad market for them. They make more money in insurances. If the playstation department is making not enough money they have a financial issue. If PS6 is too expensive, do not have exclusives, then maybe they survive PS6 but there is no PS7 anymore. Microsoft has far more cashflow. Nintendo has even nice margins on the hardware they sell. Very interesting times that new generation. I also read something that SOny was even considering to open up and maybe give acces to steam shop?? Then I really do not understand how they going to make money. ......

What?
People like to repeat bullshit as if it's still 2007
All Sony businesses are profitable

If PS6 is too expensive, do not have exclusives, then maybe they survive PS6 but there is no PS7 anymore.
Playstation earns billions in profits even now, when there is some, although small, competition. Next gen their profit margins increase even further - there is simply no way they lose lots of money even when they go with console subsidy

Microsoft has far more cashflow. Nintendo has even nice margins on the hardware they sell.
You are uniquely uninformed and just repeat some old mantras
Xbox itself has less cashflow and Amy in no mood to allow Phil to spend MS warchest anymore
And Nintendo lost their nice margin with Sw2, especially on Japan subsidy. Their profit is half of Sony now, fact that Nintendo fans now try to avoid mention even though it was their favorite in Sw1 era.

Very interesting times that new generation. I also read something that SOny was even considering to open up and maybe give acces to steam shop?? Then I really do not understand how they going to make money. ......
Some Sony too bullshit as always

PS6 (apart from price, brand power or power) will come from PS4 and PS5, consoles with more than 100 million customers each with a library of games that they will want to keep and continue playing, against that it is impossible to fight.

I think huge neural accelerators to allow ML performance unlike any console in history will be a key point of it. Graphics will get better, but with that huge ML block you can have actual ML AI rather than clever scripting pretending to be, as well as better frame gen and upscaling and IQ enhancements as well as whatever else the devs put the ML towards.

Only a $100 mark-up at launch, and the looming threat of price increases down the line.
