Thinking of Dropping PC Xbox Game Pass for…GameFly??

I wasn't aware of Humble Choice! I'll look into this for sure, thanks!

Yeah I definitely want to keep buying new games when I can. I usually buy them for sale. Rarely do I pay full price for something on PC, even brand new games, unless it's Nintendo. This would work out great!

My wife is encouraging me to just cancel PC Game Pass and just buy the games lol. I'm self employed, so my income varies quite a bit. I've had a dry couple of months from battling vertigo, but I'm mostly better now, so I should be back to normal funds by the beginning of 2026.

But if GameFly is worth it, along with something like Humble Choice, then maybe I'll stick with it for the long run. Outside of demos, trying games out in some shape or form is preferable. I get a good sense from a lot of you guys on here, along with watching gameplay videos, too.
I wouldn't jump on Humble Choice right now. Wait until the end of the month, they've done Black Friday deals every year where you can get a discounted one year subscriptions. I was skipping months I didn't like, or already owned the games I wanted. That let me stretch out one year to three.

There's also the weekly free games from Epic, and between Christmas and New Years they normally put out really good games for 24 hours only. If you subscribe to Amazon Prime, you also have games included with that which are your's to keep even if you cancel prime. They activate on an Amazon account, Epic, or GOG depending on the game.

And then PC gaming has bundles. Humble hasn't been as good the last few years, but there's occasionally an amazing one. GreenManGaming has just started doing their own bundles and they have been really good. https://www.greenmangamingbundles.com And finally Fantical has a constant Stream, many are pick and choose. If you are interested in indies, you can get some insane deals there. https://www.fanatical.com/en/bundle/games

I honestly didn't know GameFly still existed.
I didn't either lol

Wow, thanks! I'm bookmarking all of this. It makes me wish I was a patient gamer. I usually have all the games I like from bundles.

Maybe I can shift my dopamine hits to sales and bundles and only pick up games at launch where I really want to be a part of the community on GAF. The threads die after 2 weeks, but the diehards still stick around. It would be a big change for me to try this.

If you haven't used it before. I recommend trying out PlayNite. It can aggregate your gaming library across multiple platforms including consoles. Whenever you get the itch to buy something new, go look at the filtered list of things you own but never played. Staring at your wall of shame might make you take a step back.

As I said in an earlier post, unless it's a multiplayer game there's no reason to jump on releases day one anymore. Games release with too many bugs, and season passes for content DLC can push them over $100 if you buy that as well. Better to wait for the complete packs and get everything for $30-40 in a fully patched state and have the best experience.

There are a few series and studios that you probably love. Go ahead and buy those day one if you really, really want. But with games taking 5-6 years to come out. Is that really more than 2-3 games a year that you do that for? Fill the rest of your time with cheap older games.

I can't tell you how many times I get frustrated to see a game that I bought go 20-40% off within 1-3 months after purchasing it. It's like clockwork these days. Although, I do pick up most games 20% off on day one with Green Man Gaming. I've tried to save where I can.

Re-evaluating my approach to gaming would be a pretty helpful and healthy exercise.

Picking up series I love makes sense on day one, along with Nintendo games I'm interested (since those rarely go on sale within a year).

You're right about multiplayer, too. Better to grow with the game than join in months later and get completely wiped by veterans.

And I definitely need to install PlayNite. I do have a lot of games in my library that I'd love to beat. Some are out of sight, out of mind.

I'm also realizing that I've gotta hover between 2-3 games at a time from different genres to keep my interest. I can work in some older games that way, too.

Appreciate your input!
