Half-Life 3 is in the Final Phase of Development – Rumour

TBF one could argue that we got 1h of gameplay 7 years ago and nothing released since. I'm sure you realize that SQ42 and it's trailers are acting like marketing tools to bring more people into the universe.
And while I wouldn't call SC a scam, it definitively take way too much time. Not to mention the numerous... questionable decisions they made recently.

But this isn't a SC thread.

Would make more sense then to not branch out your workforce to the single player game if its just a tool to send peoples to the MMO while you could just make the MMO more solid and have more peoples playing it. The vast vast money coming in the past decade is the MMO. Single player is not a driver at all.

Bad management, false/unrealistic promises, feature creep, took too long, etc, I'll never argue that. But if it wasn't for GTA6 fucking ping pong'ing around 2026 calendar, I would have made an avatar bet that SQ42 would have released around the 2026 conference. Now GTA 6 is looming right around that period of time and they don't want to be near that nuke.

Anyway, I won't discuss this further, you of all peoples I think have seen all my posts on the subject ;) Let's not derail the potential HL3 megabomb.

HL3 shadow drop would be fucking wild lol, Its not happening tho.

Why I think a shadowdrop is unlikely is because they'll want to sell hardware beforehand

What if HL3 is announced and its exclusive to "Valve", be it Freemont console, VR headset, or SteamOS/Steam store where only upcoming consoles supporting PC/Steam would be able to play it? No ports to console?

I would if I was Valve. But that needs to ship a ton of hardware in preparation for the nuke.

If I had to guess, HL3 is really to push their new engine, which will be an entire Roblox/Fortnite ecosystem that will allow small teams to easily make much more advanced games than is capable in either of those engines.

I'd say that's a pretty good guess, I could see that very well happening.

I was banned for saying this two years ago… but the prophecy remains: Valve will announce Half-Life 3 on December 5th.
I ran the math through three calculators and one brain cell, still checks out.

If you look at the different launch date history for Valve, what do we have?

Valve = August 24, 1996
Half Life = November 19, 1998
Steam = September 12, 2003
Half life 2 = November 16, 2004
Episode One = June 1, 2006
Episode Two = October 10, 2007
Alyx = March 23, 2020

24+96+19+98+12+03+16+04+01+06+10+07+23+20 = 339 (BOOM!)

Not convinced yet? Hold on to your socks.

The Year 339 saw the birth of Shi Shi, future emperor of China.
Shi Shi was Shi Hu's youngest son, by his 3rd empress, Liu. (WOW!)

Do you know how many days Shi Shi reign lasted? 33 (BOOM!)

Think I'm crazy? Hold on to your underwear.

What's the 339th day of the year? December 5th, that's right.

December 5th, 1804 : Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd President of the United States is re-elected US President. (BOOM!)
December 5th, 1912: The Triple Alliance among Italy, Austria, and Germany is renewed for six years. (DAMN!)
December 5th, 1932: Albert Einstein is granted an American visa. Did you know Einstein had THREE kids? (WHAT?)

I could go on.

I'm gonna play the devil's advocate here and say maybe give it a week more?

Half Life: Nov 19th, 1988
Half Life 2: Nov 16th, 2004

maybe they're going to wait until the 16th or 19th to announce it?

It is impossible for hl3 to do what hl2 and source did for vidya back in the day, but if they make a really good game and manage to tell the story well, most half life fans will be satisfied.

We will never get that hl2 e3 demo moment again, and that is fine.

Not at all.

It's impossible for me to pull myself upstairs by using just my balls.

It's not impossible for HL3 to be as revolutionary as HL3.

It's only impossible because it's never been done before so you can't comprehend it.

It certainly IS possible for some level of innovation to come to HL3. By the way. The innovation HL1 brought (first person narrative, immersive, continuous journey) - was bigger than source and HL2.

I believe the leaks suggest some pretty huge innovations around NPC AI and how the game plays. So it certainly could be a huge new step. Fuck me the industry needs some innovation in the single player space.

But I just don't see this being like "take away from GTA6" as the original leaker claimed, if it is Half Life 3.

I mean, yeah--long time, much revered franchise, but is it really that big 20 some odd years later? I don't realistically see anything taking thunder away from GTA6.

HL2 was massive because how revolutionary it was for the time. The graphics and physics were pretty mind blowing in 2004.

If HL3 follows this trend and is as revolutionary as HL2 then it will be massive.
