Metroid prime 4 video preview (new gameplay)

A bunch of different previews should be dropping today.

Really hoping this turns out to be as good as the rest of the franchise. The OST seems to be on point at least.

The guy calls himself idiot and asshole throughout the whole video for some reason, he says that he that he has never played a Metroid Prime before but he has a nintendo channel which I find weird and frankly quite stupid. He said as well that he played around 20 hours and the game is amazing, feels very much next gen compared to previous nintendo game. And he was invited by Nintendo to play this which means he probably is sponsored to say good things about it.

I personally wouldn't take this guy's opinion serious anyway but that's just me

Agreed. If they were showing this instead of Bike go Zoom reception would be better. Marketing could be much better. Game looks great.
Isn't that exactly what they did initially and everyone just went "looks just like any other Prime game". Just digging through an old thread based of off the earlier footage that was only based on first-person gameplay:

looks like a mod for the original metroid prime , very underwhelming
This looks like a 1990s shooter......
IT didn't look good. And I don't just mean graphics wise. But gameplay wise...it didn't scream new and exciting.
Im honestly very worried, there is no hook so far
Looks like ass, the music is bland, the design looks so ancient

I don't think so. They've been showing 1 minute trailers and a portion of these are cinematics. Here you have lengthy gameplay that shows how the game works. And it's using the S2 version. Lots to unpack in this footage.

Nintendo not showing much or a bland desert open area leads to mixed reception and driveby shitposts of people who are never going to buy the game anyway.

The marketing has been really weak compared to Zelda and especially Kirby.

There's been lots of public of demos of the game featuring the first person perspective. Nintendo Treehouse even uploaded 17 minutes of 4K footage of the Switch 2 version back in April.

Replaying the first 15 minutes across several months is not much to go on nor does it illustrate the scope of the game since it takes place on Viewros. It's a good preview when it was first showcased but a few months before release it's not good enough. Not even close.

That said if previews drop today as you are suggesting then I'll be a happy camper.

I'm not really trying to argue their advertising have been good or bad. Just that they did show 'classic' gameplay that looked great visually a while back, and lots of people complained about it.

Agreed, I can't wait for some impressions!

Shame we couldn't get a Metroid Prime 4 built for the Switch 2 and not held back by the Switch 1's ancient hardware.

Hopefully this is great and hopefully the next one isn't 5 years away.

The OST is half the game. Metroid seldom disappoints in this department, and this was no exception. Can't wait for the full soundtrack.

Yet another solid switch 2 title! I literally haven't played as many great games back to back as I have this year.

It's not just Nintendo games either seems a few other devs have gone back to just making fun games and not worrying about chasing " cinematic " experiences.

He only played the game for two hours not 20, but can only upload 20 minutes of gameplay footage. But i agree, the guy has never played a Metroid game before, so he doesn't have any point of reference to compare, he spent half of the video saying how bad is he playing the game… also looks like he enjoyed more the trip to the Nintendo office because he made a vlog… Also he said that he wants to insert the game in his ass, which is weird 🤣.

True, he said 2 hours. I wrote it earlier in the morning and was tired

The guy is pretty weird if you ask me, seems like his viewers must be children or teenagers, I dont know, unbearable if you ask me

I honestly can't tell what to make of MP4.

Is Nintendo's silence a lack of confidence, or are we seeing a repeat of the pre-Switch era where they barely marketed BOTW prior to launch and just let the game speak for itself?

The AI and villains give me serious Halo 1–3 vibes — which tracks given the ex-Bungie and CoD talent involved. There's clearly a lot riding on this game. People talk about MP5 rumors, but I doubt it; a more realistic move would be reusing assets for an NS2 Metroid Prime 1–3 trilogy. It would be a lower cost project.

But if MP4 doesn't sell, Nintendo might have to retire the Prime series entirely and try something new with Metroid. The IP has too much potential to waste.

Edit: I'm really looking forward to the previews today.

I am really looking forward to this, even picked up the two awesome Metroid 4 amiibos from Nintendo last month while I wait for the game. Really loved the first Metroid Prime and its sequel on GameCube but never really played the third game. I did buy Metroid Prime for the Wii but, controversial I know, just never got on with the Wiimote controls even though I really should have. Always felt a bit laggy and unresponsive to me. As such, I never bothered with Metroid Prime 3 as by the point I was sick of the whole motion-control gimmick and had sold my Wii.

Will definitely be playing Metroid Prime 4 using the Pro controller with gyro controls disabled as a conventional first-person shooter.

Even with my limited Spanish I was like wait...why the fuck am I hearing asshole constantly every time I clcik a random point in the video lol

So, it's fair to say I was slightly shocked when Metroid Prime 4: Beyond's opening hour introduced Samus's new bumbling, slapstick sidekick, Miles MacKenzie, who wisecracked his way through my remaining play time, stripping away at any trace of atmosphere or tension with his comedic quips and exclamations, even often outright noting when I'd missed important items.

"Samus, there's something interesting over there. Are you sure we don't need to use that?" To Metroid fans like me, it was a sobering experience.
Can't wait to learn from fanboys that annoying, pretend to be funny, treating player like an idiot, and never shut-up companions are actually great, any minute now

I also read this one and while I try not to put too much stock in one opinion, if that's all factually true, well what the fuck were they thinking?!

I glanced around at other journalists in the room to confirm I wasn't imagining it. At one point, Miles introduces Samus to a downed Mech vehicle, which he affectionately calls "Betsy".

Comic relief can be done well in otherwise serious productions, but so far, Prime 4's narrative feels like it's been handled with the same level of care as parachuting Jar Jar Binks into Alien.
Not fucking Marvel quipping and AI buddy hint system in a Metroid game.

Man, wtf is this shite, Metroid should be about the isolation and atmosphere...

Also, just to derail a little bit, Other M was actually good for me, in fact, I loved it, sure, "the baby" and all that shite but the gameplay was mighty good IMO

Looks so fucking bland. and the sidekick looks so out of place and dumb. nintendo is ancient techwise. the gameplay looks boring, what a disappointment. i know it will be graded high because this is the nintendo way and they make no mistakes. the only positive is the frame rate.

New overview trailer just dropped:

Not sure how I feel about the federation team-up related stuff..

Everything in that trailer looks amazing… except for every time there's someone from the federation on screen.

I'm hoping they all get killed off within the first few hours. I really don't want to deal with rescuing federation soldiers the whole game.

That whole lighter tone with "hero" federation characters was pure shit in MP3 and I'm baffled that they're doubling down on it here. I've never seen a single person say they actively liked that in MP3 lol

Trailer looked great. Hopefully this sidekick dude gets iced in the first hour of the game cause seems like the rest of the game is a return to form.

Yeah, I'll be playing the game and making my mind about it instead of reading inflammatory, click bait shit from the "journalists".
The problem is that he's obviously not lying about the things he's seen, and we can still read that and not want them in the game. Companions, hints, and focus on NPCs and things like that, open hub world etc.
We can take his "inflammatory" response/feelings out, and have our own conclusions about the negatives mentioned. It doesn't change the fact that they exist lol.

Even the overview trailer today is clearly putting an emphasis on companions and working with them. I don't want a game (in a franchise known for being about solo exploring and isolation) to be about rescuing survivors and escort missions.
