Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, overview trailer (Switch 2)

Again, the character is clearly designed to be hated… And looks like is working amazingly well.
This guy looks like him

All of that is intact in this game… 🙄.
To be fair, none of us have played the game yet. We don't know that and have only seen about one hours worth of gameplay previews. We're all speculating. I hope I'm wrong. I'm exclusively a Nintendo gamer with some small exceptions. I'm not in this thread to shit on Nintendo. Just expressing my legitimate concerns, and based on what i've seen so far, the method of storytelling is a huge departure from what made made me love the other Prime Games. We shall see.

Brother I mean this with all due respect, I don't know your history with the series….but no serious fan of the prime games would have that complaint. This isn't Pokémon. The strength of the series is the isolation and story told gradually through the environment and scanning things. And obviously the amazing gameplay. I don't give a fuck why this dude doesn't like sitting next to Phil in the office.
For real. Don't even need a scan visor anymore. Just bring Pvt. Fuckass with you and he'll tell you everything you need to know for the world/story. He seems to know everything in a short amount of time for such a scaredy bitch.

Nightmare scenario....imagine if all the scan logs are written by him? "Geemer? Frankly it looks more like one of my hemmorhoids, Samus. Oh gosh....its flaring up just thinking about it"

Hopefully Metroid Navi isn't as prominent as some of the previews are making him out to be. I get that the Galactic Federation is a part of the Metroid universe, but I also don't think I've ever found them to be a great addition to any game they've been a part of. It's probably not a coincidence that the two Metroid games where they have the greatest prominence - Federation Force and Other M - are also the two that are the most widely hated. As others have said, isolation has always been a core element of Metroid's thematic appeal, and having Quippy McQuipperson along for the ride doesn't really jive with that appeal.

If you dont want it to be the last Prime, probably some onboarding is necessary. Especially after such a long break
Absolutely, but there's no need to waste one of the core characteristics of the games (isolation). Look at BotW, It onboarded 2 fucktons of new players and did it a thousand times better than Skyward Sword.

Regarding the open world, I hope that there are ways to traverse between the different zones that you can unlock over time, perhaps some kind of rail system beneath the surface like the elevators in past prime games. Maybe the open world is just how you get to new areas initially and then come back occasionally for plot related reasons. Thats my hope, anyway. Never liked how in Prime 3 they were literally separate planets with no way to do this.

I don't care what anyone says, I liked Other M. Was it perfect? Heck no. But I actually enjoyed the faster paced action sections of it. It was...different, yet still very much Metroid.
Same. I liked how the animations made Samus look fast and snappy, it was really needed after the slower paced Prime games. I also remember tons of people never using the dodge when transitioning from aim mode to 3rd person mode, it's a super cool mechanic.

Is basically the tutorial area…
This

I think people are massively overreacting to it.

I also don't like the character. Not at all. But it seems obvious to me that the npcs only reason to exist is to bring new players into the gameplay loop. Even though this might be frustrating for "us old dogs", I understand Nintendos move to target a broader audience.

He will bother us only for the intro sequence as far as I understand it. Thinking of how Sony is treating their mature and experienced player base with GoW Ragnarok and Horizon, this one seems to be bearable.

PS4 year one at best here....

Doesn't matter tho..this game is the one I've been waiting forever for
Your damn right. Shadow Fall still looks good to this day.
That's exactly the comparison that came to mind. I was immediately reminded of Halo 4. However look at the post I quoted:

If that's was the baseline for the Switch 2, it would be indeed horrible. However we've already seen with Starwars Outlaws and Cyberpunk 2077 that we can expect more from the switch 2.

@Alexios Cry more :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Looks like an early gen ps4 game or late gen xbox 360 with better anti aliasing.

Sorry I'm confused but is this supposed to be favorable for Metroid? I mean even with cherry picking screenshots, I'm not impressed. The only thing metroid has going for it is resolution and AA. Geometric mesh complexity, effects, animations, npcs on screen, lighting, etc are all behind.

It seems you have no idea what you were talking about.

Geometric complexity - MP4 exhibits superior and higher complexity from character models to environmental structures than Halo 5 and Shadow Fall
NPCs, take a look at screens again.

I like most of everything Im seeing..I dont mind the troops here and there, maybe it will break some pacing.

But whats really bad for me are the animation. The look very 2000s, an alien planet can be much more with the right animation touch and you really dont see it here

I guess I'm too much of an old head then. To me, it should be all about showing, not telling. Prime doesn't really need a tutorial. Tell the player to shoot that, scan there, and send them on their way. If new players can't figure it out without Myles Mackenzie, then they should play checkers.

Admittedly, I'm a cranky ass about hand holding. Just seems unnecessary and encourages people to not use their brains. As long as it doesn't take over significant chunks of the game, I can look past it. I just think it doesn't need to be included at all.

I like the way it looks, but the name of the planet is so dull. Viewros? Come on, you can do better than that. Look at the names of the planet from the first three games. Tallon IV? Phaaze, Aether? Bryyo? Norion? Elysia? Those all sound better.

Sorry was not even the right footage I wanted to post since I saw it on page 4.

The first 20 mins I wanted to share and it starts with the main menu, which actually was interesting to me.

Its fine. Ive seen this video. Just when I was watching it I was like "wow they are kinda showing alot". Various beams, other suits, cutscenes with the troopers, etc.

Dude this character is pretty damning... I um yeah, idk if Im gonna buy it before it hits a used sale or something. Was really excited but wow is the tone completely terrible. I wish Nintendo was still good. I blame the influx of the mass market tbh (aka too many dum dums play video games now). Marvel dialogue yum....
