Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Add A.I.L.A to the list of awesome looking UE5 games. Been playing through it and I think it's much better than reviews have suggested, but I'm still early on.

here's a few of my shots:

DF talking about AC shadows switch port and they arent sure if it will have virtualized geometry (RTGI is already confirmed to be out). They then talked about UE5 ports like Cronos which also did not feature nanite in Switch 2. Hell even fortnite doesnt use nanite on switch 2 lol

I keep saying this. Devs literally dont give a fuck about the switch 2, series s or whatever hypothetical PS5 portable might come out in a couple of years.

I was also looking at a couple of these korean/chinese (apologies to asian studios for lumping them together) and these games have the most amazing visuals ive ever seen. Will wukong devs look at this and say to themselves, nah, we will limit ourselves to 3 tflops 15 watt handhelds? Doubt it. Clearly these asian studios have high standards. Higher than some of the Sony first party studios who are more interested in pushing framerates than visuals.

P.S I just saw Sucker Punch tweet telling its followers to vote for GOTY in the PS Blog GOTY awards lol. Their 5+ year DLC with last gen visuals didnt even beat 2d and isometric games for a nomination so they have to settle for begging their fans for a fan goty award. Talk about hitting rock bottom. Maybe next time dont be so 'risk averse' and make something that doesnt look like a ten year old game. I mean the animations in the Blood Message game are literally decades ahead of the PS3 era animations in Ghosts 2.

So, looks like we might actually see Corys game at TGA...

I think that statue is GOW

What are we expecting? Has no reason to not look significantly better than Wolverine at least.
feels game of thrones GIF

you know what other games dont look significantly better than wolverine? Death stranding 2, Ghosts 2, Spiderman 2, Ratchet Rift Apart, Demon Souls, Returnal, Soros, Interstellar. And thats just the next gen only games.

I expect a lot from it since we got that head technical engineer from Ready At Dawn at it. At the very least the materials will be stellar.
Some top of the industry programmers working currently on SSM, as per LinkedIn profiles they may have the top programmers on all of sony first party studios

Im holding out hope for both SSM and ND to get back to their old roots. As others have said, SSM has been on an elite talent hiring spree. let us pray.

I saw that. Cory is a master troll.. This further confirms GOW lol

im going to be pissed when its some lame DLC
DLC? Dude forget DLC, they are making a 2D game. Yes, thats right. AAA devs based out of Los Angeles making $140k a year on average are making a 2D game for a first party developer.

That alone should tell you everything you need to know about the state of ambition at that studio.

I remember reading somewhere that 2d God of war game developed by other third party studio with SSM overseen it.

Please don't ask me more questions about this - if I wind up reporting more information at any point in the future, it'll be in an article, not on a forum."

I am secretly hoping [in vain probably] for a 1st or 3rd person action or military game, from Cory. but it was rumoured at some point that he was busy making a horror game [Siren?]
I'd also love to see Bluepoint have a crack at SOCOM but I think they're busy with their new IP ,maybe Bend then

this is amazing news , The Ascent was an INCREDIBLE game, espeically in terms of visuals. The best use of UE for an Isometric game.
it blew my mind how detailed all the environments were in that game. one of the olnly games where concept art was absolutely fully realised and a world that felt genuinely alive and breathing.
...developed by no more than """"12"""" devs, mind you
I can't wait for their next game, which is reportedly 1st person.
give that Krafton has bought them, they might switch gears to multiplayer or stoop so low as to make one of those colourful GenZ games
hopefully not

The physics were also well done.

they actually released some screenshots a few months ago. Looks brilliant. Said to be a first person game made in UE5.

The name "Project Impact," which is a codename, has a few meanings, not just for the game but also for the studio. For the game, we were told that the studio wanted to create something with a lot of interactivity and a goal of making players feel like they would impact the world. This suggests that we'll likely get some sort of decision-making with multiple branches, though that wasn't directly confirmed to us. The team also mentioned that they're trying to add a lot of extra "oomph" and "impact" to elements like animation, sound, and special effects to help deliver an extra sense of force for the title. As a studio, it functions as a design mantra for the game, with Neon Giant looking to make an impact in the industry with Project Impact.

Witcher 3 absolutely DEMOLISHED Bethesda and changed WRPGs forever.

If Rockstar is allowed by neogaf to take their time so should CDPro.
if all the best studios take their time then we will get one game every 8 years from them. it's just a video game guys. the empire state building was built in a little over a year and that was 95 years ago.

Witcher 4, intergallactic, Tomb Raider will take at least 7 years to make. Cory's next game, GTA6, Judas, Half Life 3, etc will all take at least 8 years to make. like come on, we sent people to the moon just 8 years after kennedy created the mission.

Probably because the Switch 2 has so little compute. Using nanite to rasterize would just spend more than what the Switch 2 could afford.

UPDATE:
The Game Awards' Statue Tease is Allegedly Unrelated to God of War, Diablo 4

In a post on ResetEra, Jason Schreier noted that he knows what is being teased but doesn't want to reveal it because "it's a good one".

Interesting
do we know what engine Cory's team is using , is it their in-house engine or UE5 or Decima?

Cory team use SSM inhouse engine like all their games

Guys, this only means one thing. Cory has been working on a TLOU reboot. We've gotten remasters, we've gotten remakes of remasters and now we need to go back and do spinoffs. The Last of Us Zero: Joel's First Marriage.

Eternal strands has a very robust physic system and more destruction than you would expect, if you like shadow of the colossus and physics playgrounds give it a try, only 12 euros on psn.

This confirms that saros will use ray tracing effect alongside real time dynamic global illumination, here's housemarque technical art director

Ummm, hiring a principal graphics engineer with ray tracing background the month their game is shipping doesnt mean that game has ray tracing. it could, but i dont see how the two are related. its definitely possible that he wants this guy to lead the ray tracing implementation since its a high level position.

looks good for a ps360 era game.

this is what KZSF looked like in 2013.

10497262856_aeb43d977c_o.gif

And BF4 which itself was a cross gen PS360 era game, but still looked great for its time on the PS4.

bf49_by_xbulletz-d6912k4.gif

KZSF is still one of the better looking PS4 games and ran at 1080p/30fps. MP4 is capable of 1080p/120fps.

I mean, the hope was for the Switch 2 to be PS4-level prior to release. So to have a cross-gen game as good looking as Metroid Prime 4 running at 1440p/60fps or 1080p/120fps on a $450 mobile device in it's first year on the market is quite impressive IMO.

MP4 looks noticeably worse than shadowfall. It's no surprise it runs better.

Not really at all. Thoroughly unimpressive for a first party effort.

4x the framerate is not just "better". It's not even comparable. It'd be something to see if they developed around a 1080p/30fps target.

I also don't know that we can say it looks noticeably worse than Shadowfall until we actually get our hands on it.

He hires this position for ps5 pro development, unless their next title will be cross gen title which also may be true like sony strategy this gen

It's 4x the framerate on hardware that is 2x more powerful than a ps4 while looking approximately 2x worse. From the lighting to the scope of the levels, the lighting, textures, geometric complexity, etc. It looks worse. I don't need to play the game to see that it looks worse.

MP4 outside the biking section which looks like a mobile game is designed like a cramped ps3 corridor shooter. The gameplay we've seen makes the game look like it's just a giant hallway with beautiful set dressing. I mean, compare the model complexity in shadow falls gun model to Samus' blaster.

It's hilarious how simplistic Samus blaster looks in comparison. Almost early gen ps3 like.

You aren't remembering the PS3 generation correctly.

Nintendo stans were literally smugly arguing fervently that this thing is more impressive than Killzone Shadowfall. That legit looks much worse than Uncharted 3 outside image quality. Metrid prime 3 was legit a tehnical powerhouse for the console up there with the best at its relase and we have DF saying this is technically brilliant just because its solid framerate and resolution wise. As if running a PS3 game upressed and upframed on the ps4 is something praise worthy.

That legit looks comparable to Halo 4, a 360game....honestly, outside image quality, Halo 4 looks more pleasing to me.
DK Bananza, Mario kart World, Kirby and now this. It's obvious that the talent is simply not there at Nintendo. Nor the drive or ambition to make something truly amazing. They are great level designers, and do have that rare talent of extracting fun out of gameplay mechanics that other generic Ubisoft developers just cant, but it's like they are allergic to graphics. At this point, it's a matter of principle. You release a $70 game and it has to look next gen. Or at the very least PS4 gen. otherwise wtf is the point of giving this console a 3 tflops nvidia GPU capable of DLSS and ray tracing? Bumping up the price to near $500.

Or have some self respect. You put your name next to a game, it cant look like this in 2025. I feel like some devs over at Sony and Nintendo have received so much praise and accolades over the last few years that they have lost that ambition and drive to be the best of the best.

I say let them retire and have the new Genz guys take over. They come with their own issues but at least they have that drive that these old farts are lacking. insane to see Expedition 33 devs, all young kids right out of college.

Maybe you're not remembering it well either...
This is Halo 4 and on the Xbox One mcc version, it runs at 1080p and 60fps on an Xbox One, much weaker than the Switch2. No matter how much defense you apply here, this is a technically underwhelming effort which coasts on taking the upressing and upframing approach on a much stronger ps4.5gen console with a GPU feature set that beats even the PS5 handily outside compute, of course.

Here's the thing, they do or did have technical talent, which is what's frustrating, but they only use it once in a blue moon and will happily coast on the lowest effort approach techwise 90 percent of the time. Zelda looks great on the Switch 1, considering its physics and interactions. Xenoblade was also quite good, but then they realized that outside of one or two releases, they can easily accomplish their goals in terms of sales while doing the bare minimum, so here we are.
