But honestly, I thoroughly read a few of these and while it sounds okay, this would've had to have been a Switch 2 system seller for me. I've played 1 - 3 to death and don't need a greatest hits but with added stuff that sounds not great.

Not saying it sounds bad at all, I'd buy if I had a Switch 2 I guess but eh. Prime 1 was a holy fuck moment and sold me a Gamecube back in the day. Not quite my tempo!

I simply mean that I held off playing Metroid Prime Remastered, for fear of being burnt out before heading onto Metroid Prime 4.
Now that 4 doesn't sound like something I'm going to be frothing at the mouth to play, I can revisit an old friend for my Metroid fix.

I get you. Sorry, I was simply perturbed at the idea of anyone being put off Prime 1 by this.

I hope you enjoy it.

"Once again, Nintendo just couldn't resist forcing its bad habit of the past few years — constantly holding the player's hand. In Metroid Prime 4, the player is simply not allowed to get lost. As soon as you enter a new area, the game immediately shows you the objective you're supposed to reach, and we are a long way from the era when you could explore freely and lose yourself before the game eventually pointed you in the right direction. And it doesn't stop there, because that devil McKenzie will occasionally interrupt communications to remind you of your current objective.

The peak of this aggressive hand-holding is the fact that you can display on the map every energy, missile or ammo expansion you might have missed. We won't say how to do it, but seeing a Metroid game reveal all of that with zero subtlety is truly bewildering." (Gamekult)

Nintendo games are overrated, that s a fact,
Really? Super Mario World. Super Mario 64. Mario Galaxy. Super Mario Bros. The Legend Of Zelda games. Super Metroid. Metroid Prime. Donkey Kong Country series. F Zero. Starfox. Wave Race. Mario Kart series. These are all overrated, and that's a "fact"?
Yet in this case, Metroid Prime 4 is SO shit that reviewers couldn't help but review it "low"...? Cool. Digital Foundry seemed to love it. As did Giant Bomb. And Forbes as well. They must be Nintendo plants.

My bad, I didn't elaborate with my initial post.
Oh I will! 😁
I had a quick blast on it when I purchased it a while back but didn't fully commit at the time.
Still as intoxicating now as it was when I played it in 2003.

I pre-ordered the day digital pre-orders went live and I'm still very much looking forward to playing this game, but the fact that MP4 wasn't a Switch 2 launch title, and was pushed to release in December should have prepared everyone for the 7.5 and 8/10 review scores.

I mean, the game has seemingly been stuck in development hell for more than a decade.

Not sure how anyone could think it would be a 10/10 masterpiece. It will be a solid 8 - 8.5/10 game that will sell incredibly well and lead to more Metroid games in the future, and hopefully a re-release of MP 2 & 3 on the Switch 2.

This is what happens when fools say BotW is the greatest video game of all time despite having horrendous flaws like the weapon breaking system and weak dungeon design.
BotW is good, as is TotK, but I never understood the adoration it got. The weapon breaking kills a lot of the fun. Not necessarily the fact that weapons break, but that they break so quickly and easily. Plus, I just don't like open-world games that much

I got a Switch 2 just for this game. Fuck me...

I actually just bought one as well. Mostly because there was a really good Black Friday deal on it and i didn't want to miss out on that price in combination with this about to come out.

I thought that by buying it now I would secure that big discount and get to play this immediately if it turned out to be amazing. It's still in the delivery box, so it's going back.

I'm going to buy a PS5 to play Returnal and Astro Bot.

Not surprised. It looked like a decent game, but with some unrefined aspects.

Not sure who's idea adding openworld, bike and chatterbox npcs to metroid was.

I assume you can turn the objectives off? In Metroid Prime you can, otherwise it bothers you "Energy spike detected in chozo ruins" or something like that.

daamn, how the mighty have fallen. lows 80s becoming the new standard for ninty exclusives?
i'll probably still buy just to use the damn thing

Switch 2 is great, Prime 4 or not. Bananza is totally worth playing, and there are only going to be more and more must-play exclusives as time goes on.

Returnal is also amazing though, so if it's one or the other, eh. Returnal will give you the horror/isolated vibes in spades.

Everything about the bike kicks ass. You don't have to worry about picking it up where you left it or summoning it like your horse in Breath of the Wild or Red Dead Redemption. Rather, it works more like Torrent in Elden Ring where it just shows up underneath you at the press of a button. No matter what Samus is doing, she'll just do a 20-foot backflip and land perfectly on the coolest motorcycle you've ever seen. Oh, you're in Morph Ball mode? No problem, here's a sweet animation of Samus unfurling and landing on a shiny space bike. It's the best.

Score is as expected, between 80 and 90.
What a load of crap from these so called reviewers.
One says the soundtrack sucks another says it's awesome, another reviewer complains about the bike another believes it's awesome.
I also read posts on reddit from people who already have the game and they already said the Miles stuff is way overblown.
After years of seeing reviewers trying to influence public opinion and parroting each other, i don't believe a word out of their mouths, also these are just opinions from people like us which are subjective and nothing more than that.
The only thing that a review is good for is getting some info about the game itself.

I of course preordered and got my notification today that the game is shipped, can't wait for the weekend.

Yeah good luck with that.....
I'm glad i don't make my decisions based on other peoples thoughts and feelings.
Maybe it also helps that i already have a PS5 and i don't have to justify anything i buy.

I'm guessing most of the 8 and 9 scores came in late because there are a strangely large amount of post focusing on the lowest score.

I needed this game to be a 90+. I'll still buy it and play it, but I'm so sad about the direction they took.

This is officially the worst game Retro has ever released, which I think is what really bums me out the most. Every game Retro has developed has been a complete banger, so seeing their first game in 10 years be simply good ,with such obvious missteps, is just such a bummer.

I really want to know who thought it was a good idea to hold the player's hand throughout the game. Who thought it was a good idea to have NPC companions? Who thought it was a good idea to have a giant empty desert where you ride a bike? Who thought it was a good idea to have Marvel-esque dialogue?

I mean, at least it's not as bad as Other M or something. But it being a mediocre Prime game (comparatively) really blows. I expected better from Retro.

Yeah, it's a shame really. I will play it though, maybe i will look over the negatives.

Huh, actually the things they're talking about seem fine to me. I'm actually more excited about this than I was before. Games where I'm stuck trying to figure out where to go next drive me nuts now that I'm older. 25 years ago I wouldn't have cared as much. Today it just causes me to drop off the game completely. I'm fine with a talking companion, so many Nintendo games are so lifeless and isolated compared to most modern games.

An 80 basically means mediocre now. And when you subtract Nintendo's usual 7 point bonus, it's not looking good. Dread's demo and original prime were boring so it's definitely not for me.

You mean like they do in every 2D metroid since Super Metroid? Where if you enter a room with an item and don't pick it up, it shows up on your map as an open circle?

Seems like great reviews with a couple outliers that didn't even review the remaster to see what they think of Prime. Like Gamekult 6/10, what even is it. EG has weird (not negative, it's other areas they take issue with, like the - expected? - end game fetch questing) comparisons to Skyward Sword.

Seems like par for the course for any Metroid-like to go back to previous areas with new abilities that allow you to explore further, nothing SS specific though I suppose it's different to other pre-SS Zeldas where new tools were used in the dungeon you get them in/for and then forgotten past that.

Again nothing SS specific here, a remote controlled gadget/shot, I guess you can think of it like Batman rc batarang if it doesn't bring as negative feelings? They also didn't find the NPC chatter/story bad, except for Samus being a silent protagonist in return. I guess they'd hate Half-Life 2 and such?

Skimming the rest of it I don't even see enough negativity to warrant their 6/10, other than apparently finding the ending super underwhelming. Ok then. Good to know the desert is exactly as thought, Hyrule field going around with Epona to reach the next areas bringing

I bought a Switch 2 just for this game. Never expecting it to be "just ok" since it is a Nintendo game. But it is what it is now. Maybe it will drop in price early.

The thing is that I was minded to wait until the inevitable OLED model and for the Switch 2 exclusives to be more numerous in 2-3 years time or whatever. But then, of course, I got really excited about this.

Without this being a must-have right now (to be clear, I will obviously play it one day) I just feel like it's best to just wait until the hardware is better and there is more I want to play.

I'm doing a lot of skimming. Is there any chance the handholding and constant objective markers are gone when hard mode is unlocked? Or, does it plague the entire game?

Miles, as feared from those divisive initial previews, turns out to be the main supporting character in the game, gracing players with his Jar Jar Binks brand of comedy quips via intercom messages and regular visits throughout the game. The other cast members are also flimsy caricatures, including the equally irritating Armstrong, a Samus fangirl who winces at the bounty hunter's presence and, at one point, even asks for her autograph.

I fucking told you people. No way were they going to rein it in. Not after showcasing it in the trailer.

See you in another 18 years for Metroid Prime 5. Nintendo can keep this one.
