How much is your ram today?

So I read on here about the price of ram going up but I didn't quite think it would be as dramatic as it turned out to be.

I checked on how much my ram is to buy today compared to when I bought it 😳

I'm running a 5700x so I'm still on DDR4.

Used DDR4 is cheap but even that is going up. £84 on CEX for 32gb of 3600mhz, was £60 a few weeks ago. I certainly wouldn't be building a DDR5 PC today, I'd still go for AM4.

Here's potentially very silly question- I have 2 used 16 gigs of DDR5 RAM that I had in a PC that I took out and no longer need. Does that RAM retain ANY data whatsoever if I were to look at selling them?

RAM is volatile so it won't save data. It might save some timing info to improve post time at boot, or maybe some RGB config info, but nothing personal.

Thank you for that. Well looks like I have 2x16 gig sticks to sell now for FAR higher than I originally purchased them for!

32GB Crucial Ballistix Elite DDR4 3600 MT/s £110, bought years ago.

None in stock but other equivalent sets easily worth double (and then some) new.

2x32gigs of 6200mhz ddr5, bought it in march together with x870 mobo and my precious 9800x3d, unless it blows up i will be golden till end of ps6 gen aka 2036 or so :P

I've got 16GB of DDR5 sitting in a box on a shelf not being used.
Where do I go to sell it? I'm picturing a big server buiilding with a tiny window cut out the side buying from people off the street.

Paid $220.99 in March. $879.99 today.

What the fuck?!

That's an insane price. Is the price changing daily? I didn't think the price was that much.

Edit.

You can check price history on Amazon. Check out that spike for the same RAM over the last 90 days

I just got 64GB G.Skill DDR 6000 CL30 in late September for about $300. It's about $800 now.

This shit is absolutely crazy and it's not going to get better for at least a year, probably two.

Bought it for 120€ back in April, now costs more than a PS5. I checked the price 2 weeks ago and was at 420€ so already raised in price again.

Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3600 for 69 EUR in May 2023.
It's 302EUR now new on Amazon, or 270EUR used.
Cheapest one via price comparison sites is 225EUR.

64GB Crucial DDR4, purchased Oct '24 for $125 via Amazon. Currently listed with $410 as the cheapest option.

FWIW the M.2 drive I bought around the same time I paid $225 is currently listed for $379.

Obviously I can't recall exact information from in-store purchases (which I know I made at least three times in my life), but this covers my Amazon, Best Buy, and Newegg orders as far back as they store history.

It seems pricing changes haven't impacted my region (Mexico). I got 32 GB of Kingston DDR4 memory for about $120 shipped back in 2022. That particular listing is not available anymore but a similar one is about $65 today.

I got 2 different kits of 2x16 GB of DDR5 a few weeks back for about $120 each.

Does having 64 GB really make a difference? I don't feel I'm running out of memory despite having 100 Chrome tabs open.

32 should give enough headroom for a long time. I'm on linux so it uses a little less, but 16 was perfectly fine. I just got 32 for the next build.... because it was cheap lol. Maybe there are some tests out there that say there's a difference between 32 and 64 in some games, though.

I have a spare 32GB of DDR5 RAM in the closet as well as 32GB of DDR4 RAM. I almost gave the DDR5 sticks to a friend for free back in January cause he was gonna build a second PC for the fun of it but then changed his mind.
Now, I'm gonna sell them most likely lol
I hate this situation so much. Will I make money? Yes, yes I will. Do I hate the current situation? Absolutely.
