Your opinion is so important that it couldn't be written in the other 4 threads about this game? Come on, dude it is even out yet!Metroid is a series that has been on a run for more than 3 decades. Most of the main entry games range from great to excellent, which is a legacy that many Metroid fans are proud of because not every often that a franchise can maintain such high quality consistently. Long series like these often require constant innovation and differentiation to refresh. If we look at Metroid's siblings like Mario and Zelda, we can see this "reinvention mindset" just by comparing different "main entry" Mario games or Zelda games. Mind you, reinvention does not mean total revolution or creation of new ideas that have never been tried before. Taking an idea from 30-40 years ago and adding modern touches to it is great enough.
I see that many people complain about Metroid Prime 4's pointless additions of Bike, Empty desert, and companions and just want the original MP1 experience. But for me, I want something entirely new, something more original and refreshing. That is not to say I love any of the mentioned changes but it is absolutely necessary that decades-old franchise like Metroid needs reinvention. They could have expanded on the original Metroid's non-linearity, created creative and challenging platforming sections (Tropical Freeze was peak), borrowing systematic gameplay elements from BOTW, changing the perspective to allow for more actions, or just borrow Dark Souls 1 ideas. They had done none of these things. Instead, they opted for linear and railroaded design philosophy, a bloated desert that serves to waste time only, companions that are annoying and cringey, underwhelming psychic powers (what is the point of these powers again), areas that are thematically identical to Prime 1 (basically just corridors from the look of it). The fact that Retro Studios has not made a single game since Tropical Freeze should also be a huge redflag. Spending so many years to just make a 12ish hours game is laughable.
Was Yoshio Sakamoto involved in Metroid Prime 4?
Holy moly.I would assume so, but I haven't seen any credits.
There were a lot of chefs involved with this one though. Apparently all of these studios were involved with development of Metroid Prime 4:
- Retro Studios
- Next Level Games
- Virtuos
- Territory Studio
- Waterproof
- Keywords Studios
- Liquid Development
- Volta
- AMC Studio
- GameSim
- Smoking Gun Interactive
- Forge Studios
- Red Hot CG
- Original Force
- Devoted Studios
- Room 8 Studio
- Next Gen Dreams
- Mock Science
- Cup of Tea
- Formosa Interactive
- House of Moves
But Zelda had a few releases since Gamecube.
I wonder how many are working on just assets and how many did work for the original version of MP4 that Retro rebooted. Otherwise… that is a recipe for painful developmentI would assume so, but I haven't seen any credits.

I'm honestly the opposite. I want Metroid Prime 1 again, but in a new environment, with new enemies, new mechanics, and new music. I think the formula in Metroid Prime 1 and 2 is essentially perfect, and I just want more of that. I don't want them to reinvent it, I don't want them to create wildly game-changing gimmicks. I just want more Metroid in its best form.
That series, in particular, does not have any competition or games that fully scratch that itch, and that's because they're not easy to make. But that doesn't mean the formula is stale.
It doesn't matter to these console warriors. That 5 out of 5 is a 2 out of 5 because of an imaginary Nintendo bonus that's somehow exclusive to games on Nintendo consoles.Look at this guy, he says it's amazing. What makes him wrong and other people right?
The score on metacritic is an 8/10, an 8 is not "okay enough" and I'm not sure why so many hardcore gamers think this. It's funny you say it influences normies but you don't think normies would see an 80/100 and think "Wow that's a really good score". Normies still considering a 65 good enough.I read some reviews, the game is okay enough but nothing outstanding. Some fans need to understand that the "nothing outstanding" has implication to the franchise's survival itself. This franchise is a already a neglected one, one more subpar-sales game will only move it closer to the dead franchise list. Hate Metacritic scores all you want but they can largely influence normies' purchase decisions.
Man, a Wave Race with modern graphics would be amazing.I get why people are disappointed with Prime 4. It's not a long game — which is fine to me if it avoids filler — but the bigger issue is that the series' ideas haven't really evolved in nearly two decades. That's hard to overlook, and it reinforces the feeling that Nintendo doesn't know how to handle Metroid outside of 2D.
I also hope Retro doesn't take on another Metroid after this. They're clearly not the same studio they once were. Prime 4 seems fine overall, but I'd honestly rather see Retro focus on HD remakes for the rest of the generation. Give them projects like Mario Baseball, 1080° Snowboarding, Wave Race — something smaller, focused, and easier to deliver
Me too, but not at that price.I'm actually interested in it almost solely because I have a Switch 2 and never played any of the Prime series before.
So dramatic you guys are and it must be a sad gaming life to down games that are actually a lot of fun like ninja gaiden 4 just because of metacritic scores that aren't even given by reputable people anymore.
It's probably one of the better ones to jump into for first timers honestly. This or Metroid Prime Remaster (which you can get for $40)I'm actually interested in it almost solely because I have a Switch 2 and never played any of the Prime series before.
This is such a defeatist mindset. Yeah this series is never popular, why even try? Why do we even try anything at all? Why did Nintendo bother to make Metroid Prime 4? We already had Super Metroid, Fusion, Metroid Prime 1, 2 and 3. Nintendo has no faith in this series, so fuck them for that. It's almost like they knew Prime 4 would flop so they just ditched the marketing entirely. The score on metacritic is an 8/10, an 8 is not "okay enough" and I'm not sure why so many hardcore gamers think this. Metroid was NEVER a big seller. The best selling game in the series is Metroid Dread and it only sold 3 million copies. Even if this game was a 10/10, it still wouldn't help the sells. Japan never buys Metroid games so that market is already going to be dry.
If you like metroidvania, exploration, puzzle solving, backtracking and enviroment story telling / lore Prime Remastered is the game for you.I'm actually interested in it almost solely because I have a Switch 2 and never played any of the Prime series before.
This game was primed more than the chick next door.I would assume so, but I haven't seen any credits.

Was Yoshio Sakamoto involved in Metroid Prime 4?
also super metroid you knowNo, but he was heavily involved with Other M.
And also in Metroid, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid: Samus Returns and Metroid DreadNo, but he was heavily involved with Other M.
The fifth area is the most disappointing one by far and I genuinely think they were running out of time to finish the game.*Spoilers*
It's painfully clear playing this that the Retro that made Metroid Prime 1 is not the same studio that made this game. This pattern has happened to so many of my once favorite developers and it's the same thing here. I could've lived with the open world bike area if it was more interesting from both a visual and exploration standpoint, or if they retained the fantastic metroidvania design that both Nintendo and the series is known for but alas, they clearly weren't capable of that.
I'm only up to the Fire/volcano zone but so far very little leading up to this feels like a metroidvania, let alone something of Metroid Prime 1 and 2s quality. There are hints of it in between the confusing and disjointed first few hours, but if the Volt Forge is the best the level design is going to get then we're in trouble. It's a good level on its own merits but way too linear and predictable for a metroidvania area.
Something seemed off about this game from the very first reveal if we're being honest. Intro was great and had me pumped but literally as soon as NPC guy started talking the game got worse! Then the game became so confused with itself! Here me out- we get transported to a new area right after the Fury Green level felt like it should be opening up. It felt like it was just getting started...but with no context we get "transported" and now im at the desert and then I'm in the Volt Forge. OK then. Volt Forge was pretty good. Too linear but the boss fights were fun and it was a neat level with some classic Metroid Prime goodness mixed in. Now Im told by the game "you can explore areas in any order you want" Cool, so I do just that and go to the ice level only to realize that not only can I not progress until I get a new ability but that it's a complete dead end until I do so. Not even a few rooms of exploration until I'm blocked from progressing.
So you go back out to the desert and go to the Volcano area, which is the only real option at this point. I do a little exploration, get the item I need and then the game gives no hints or context as to what to do next....so eventually I go back to my bike and only then we're told we have to go all the way back to Fury Green to have it installed ...no flow so far just padding. Confusing progresion and design.
Check out Prey (2017) if you haven't.I hope there's more 3D Metroid in the future because there's just not quite anything like it out there.
I guess more info regarding its development will get revealed over time. This game had had a troubled development, if Retro were working on it from the beginning who knows how it might have turned out.
I don't think retro is capable of huge new AAA games at this time. Not under a 4 year dev cycle.Man, a Wave Race with modern graphics would be amazing.
It was Bandai Namco Singapore (The same studio Nintendo just bought) that was working on the game before it restarted development. I'd be curious to know if Retro had to start from scratch or start work with what was already created.I guess more info regarding its development will get revealed over time.
But my understanding is that RETRO has been working on it from the beginning in the sense that the project was re-started in 2019 and the previous version was completely scrapped.
It didn't sound like RETRO were handed a basket full of half-baked ideas that the prior team had come up with. They got to start over and do their own thing and were given a 7-year development cycle to do so.
Yeah, in the video Nintendo posted regarding the delay back then they said:It was Bandai Namco Singapore (The same studio Nintendo just bought) that was working on the game before it restarted development. I'd be curious to know if Retro had to start from scratch or start work with what was already created.
So it doesn't sound like they were bogged down by any prior issues (which I think makes sense if you're going to re-start the project). This change will mean essentially restarting development from the beginning.
Gonna have to disagree on both counts. It is clumsy in control and general design. Somewhat of a bore to go through the story, completely uninteresting to freely explore. It is well behind every major name in the adventure shooter genre. Games have been substantially better than this for at least 15 years. It is a 6 at best.It plays great and it's super polished
I am also oldish. It is my 30 years of experience with the genre that informs my evaluation of the game.Do we really need a another threat shitting on Prime 4?
I liked it btw. not the best game ever, but Im a GenX maybe its more a game for me than for you youngsters here.
Equally good? Prey level design literally obliterates metroid prime 4. Metroid prime 4 cant even reach the quality of preys fartsCheck out Prey (2017) if you haven't.
Not strictly Metroid Prime, but can work for you. More open ended, freedom.
Equally good level design, if not better. Better atmosphere too. Worse gameplay, but is an IM Sim, you can get creative.
I was comparing it to MP1.Equally good? Prey level design literally obliterates metroid prime 4. Metroid prime 4 cant even reach the quality of preys farts
Most of 75s-low 80s games are what they are, just average, and nothing more
For modern reviews, it's mid 70s means average, nothing special and 80 is just a tad better.Low 80s isn't average you retard. Neither is a 75.
