As a huge Kojima fan, it hurts to see him lose every single award but I am glad to see him get passed over by younger more ambitious devs who revived a dead genre with the cinematic and visual flare Kojima himself was known for. He literally said that they didnt even bother making DS2 next gen because the jump from PS4 to PS5 wasnt high enough. Well, this is what happens when you make a DLC feeling and DLC looking sequel.

E33 is winning because it completely disrupted the JRPG status quo, and is probably the best JRPG in the last 20 years. The greatest JRPG game will never be as good as, say, the greatest 3D platformer game, but E33 still deserves the win because it elevated an aging and stale genre significantly.

It's an excellent game, in spite of it being in a shit genre.
