Capcom: "Grace And Leon's Sections in Resident Evil Requiem Are Almost Equally Split"

My worry is it'll be no enemy variety and just cheap jump scares. RE7 mold people got boring fast.

RE2R is the best of both worlds though

I really liked the intro to RE7, up until the point were you got a gun. It was such a breath of fresh air for the series and legitemtly scary for the first time in the history of the franchise save for cheap jump scares. If we can get half a game of that, color me interested. The more skeptical part of me thinks it will be more akin to the Ashley segments in RE4.

So...it won't be like RE2R like they said months ago. Just a half of the game. I mean I loved RE4R, but this is not what I expected and I don't know if this mix is a good idea.

why ? why to you guys want an action RE game ? RE5-6 are a bad joke, why do you guys want so bad to go back to that point ?
There's a fine line between RE5 / RE6 combat and RE2 / RE4 combat. One has turret sections with non stop explosions and the other has well curated action sections with plenty of puzzles and exploration in between.
Playing peekaboo with a monster can also get tiring really fast.

Capcom as usual don't have the balls to decide if they want to make an action game or a horror game, because they know people want a horror game but they can't cook a compelling gameplay if it's not action, so they're just going to make two games in one, just like RE8.
Absolutely. To me it seems they don't have a clear direction and creative vision and instead try to appeal to everyone.
They are indecisive and have no idea what RE is or should be.
So they're like here's a little bit of everything, hope you find something to enjoy.

Hate that shit. Pick one protagonist and go all in with proper pacing, progression and enough time for the story to breath and wrap up.

Instead two castrated campaigns that will inevitably end up being too short and shallow

i dont really like games that have different inventories across different protag

and if i dislike the gameplay section of one of the protag, means half of the game lenght is gone

Considering the game was built with this from the start, I think modern Capcom deserves the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Mod Leon in the whole time day 0 mod is really the best thing that makes the pc better and we all know it.

I'm a Leon man.
I'll do the opposite mod. I'm more of a "let grace sit on my face" kinda man.

Regarding the more "action focused" version of Leon's campaign. I view it like Leon's been through this shit before. He's gonna take care of business because this ain't his first rodeo.

Grace on the other hand, it makes sense for her sections to be more horror focused because how much experience does she have with this compared to Leon?

Gross. I really hate "action" RE.

Raft, c'mon man...
At this point, there have been more action oriented REs than "survival horror" ones, and to be fair, the REs have always been about the action - and I'm not talking RE4 levels of action but, it's always been there.

REs were NEVER about "dat atmosphere ®" and the feeling of helplessness by hiding under beds/inside closets like newer horror games do (Outlast/Amnesia/Soma/whatever), they've always been centered around the action-y bits, how could they not when the game gave you pistols, magnums, shotguns, grenade launchers with 3 different types of ammo to boot and rocket launchers to deal with the enemies (and especially in subsequent playthroughs where you unlock infinite ammo) ?

Yes, we all know that RE4 turned things to 11 but this revisionist history that REs were centered around anything else but the shooting bits is strange.

Cheers

I was into it until my hand got reattached with magic water. At that point I knew it was just going to be the same old crap.

This is what made RE6 so incredibly bad. I'm one of those people who enjoyed RE5 despite its flaws and overly actiony campaign. But RE6 still infuriates me whenever I think back to how bad it was. Several different campaigns, each with different characters and different direction. The most nonsensical shit I've ever had the displeasure of playing. I really hope they're not going back to that direction of trying to do absolutely everything in hopes of "making a game for everyone".

It's been stated that Grace is akin to RE2R, not RE7. I actually think that's somewhat interesting now because the line between RE2R and RE4R is really NOT that wide. RE4R clearly feels built on the bones of that combat system, like a V2.0. At least to me. I can see her segments being simply a switch to a slower pace without Leon's agility/special service bro movement. If they play it like that, it might be pretty cool?

That being said, I think Capcom's core concept has simply been attempting to please everyone for maximum sales. RE8 was a poor attempt at a greatest hits collection already with goofy "RE gameplay styles" themed dungeons. Requiem seems like more of Capcom shoving as much Current Top Seller elements into a game as possible for that max sale number.

The elements they are playing with in that context are rock solid though so I'm hoping they pull it together and we get more of that RE2R and RE4R. The only thing that worries me is that director. I think RE7 and RE8 are the worst main games and this guy sucks so. Hopefully the 2R/4R Chads are co-directing or some shit.

God he's so fucking cool

What I was hoping for would be two scenarios like the original RE2. Play as grace the whole game in one scenario then play as just Leon for the other scenario. Instead it's just that they will split the whole game.

I could see the complaints when people say they don't want to pick one direction. But they are trying to make everyone happy. I think it's a good balance to have horror than action and switch between that. So I'm happy with the direction.

That's too bad because I personally have no desire to experience Grace, but at least PC players can change her hairstyle, make her titties&ass bigger or mod her out entirely if we so choose.

I only hope there isn't an 'indestructible big monster chases you around the whole level'-part again, since I really hate those. Apart from that I always buy mainline Resident Evil games since the psx days.

Just because it's more action oriented than games like Amnesia or Soma (or yeah, Silent Hill and Fatal Frame) doesn't mean it was always all about the action and not atmosphere or scariness. Otherwise, RE1 would have directional controls and not tank controls, and RE wouldn't back to survival horror with RE7 and RE2R after RE6. Or Capcom trying to combine two opposite gameplay styles with Requiem. It's like saying Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead was all about the action just because being more actiony than The Exorcist or Hereditary.

In another words, Capcom is doing this just with the intention "to appeal everyone". Nothing more and nothing less. Being ok with this move is fine, but that's a whole different story.

Depends how much of an anti-DEI anti-woke retard you are, that you'll have a problem playing the majority of the game as a woman…?
I don't know about our pal, but my first time with RE was the original RE1 with Jill Valentine, I disliked Revelations partially because its constant character shifting and I'm worried about this move with Requiem. Maybe not everything is about woke/antiwoke or politics. Maybe this is about a game being better by having a clear vision and going for it than "appealing to everyone at any cost", or the inmersion or a consistent tone. I played SHf recently and I'm with Tormented Souls 2 now and the difference is so big that isn't even funny.

They could have brought Rebecca or Ashley back as the second protagonist, but nope, gotta have some new quirky genZ girl to appeal to the zoomers and feminists. Ashley gets light firearm training by Leon after the events of RE4. She then gets kidnapped again by whoever kidnapped Grace in this game, but it's because of remnants of Las Plagas that have been dormant within her. Leon has to find her, again, but this time she's a budding fighter because of her past Spanish experience and Leon's overtime. That aside, I don't really know how Rebecca would be incorporated in Grace's place, but I'm sure it could be done easily with minor alterations similar to Ashley being added. Remove the Alyssa/Grace mother and daughter element, obviously, and just leave Alyssa as a subtly referenced surprise once that abominable looking stalking enemy is dealt with for good. Holy hell what a dumb move. Back to Raccoon City and there's no Jill, no Chris, no Barry, no Rebecca, no Claire, no Sherry and probably no Ada either. Pffft, "Requiem" my ass.

I don't have any issues with grace and think I'll really like her character. I actually had no issue if it was just her. But I do think that they're not gonna commit to that subtitle of the game like I hoped. Requiem I thought meant that it'll be a game to tell the story of many of the characters in the series. A remembrance and tribute to everyone that's been involved but I don't think now that it will be one of those fan service type of events. I'm hopeful that I'm wrong and that going back to raccoon city opens up threads and scenes of other characters. It still may go that way. We've barely seen anything of the game; maybe 10% of it if that.
