New Spyro possibly leaked

So a guy that worked at Toys For Bob for less than two years and stopped working there before they were spun off into an independent studio put the word "Spyro" in his LinkedIn profile.

I want to believe, but... obviously lots of plans have changed since then.

Crash 4 not only demolishes the overrated ND games, but is also one of the best platform games of the last decade. So if Spyro 4 has the same quality, well...
This is gonna be a popular post I'm sure.
I have no horse in this race as I spent the 5th gen playing JRPGs, Gran Turismo, and shooters on PC.

I disagree. The Crash Collection is by far the best Crash game ever made. The sequel is very weak in comparison, in popularity and also in sales.

Obviously I have a completely different opinion :D

It's a great edition the Crash nsane trilogy, dont get me wrong, which makes the games more fun, but Crash 4 transforms the IP into a platform with tons of new ideas, content, and variety. It's truly a great platform.
It's absolutely not true
Linear, sloppy, nope, I think the original Crash games are more a product of nostalgia than actual quality of the games.
The nsane trilogy make them more enjoyable that's for sure.

If it's a continuation based on the Insomniac Spyro Trilogy that's super exciting imo. Love those remakes!

The devs that released the Spyro trilogy are jerks. Never fixed the awful frame pacing issue of the trilogy, never released a next gen update, still 30 fps on console with improper frame pacing.

I dpn't want to hear about a new game until that's fixed

I think it will be just that. Like Crash, Spyro needs a decanonization deep cleanse of useless sequels. Apologies to anyone growing up with the PS2 era stuff, but it's garbage.
IMO, Spyro Trilogy & Crash 4 future proofed the character designs for games, TV & merch.

Why this obsession with sales? It doesn't matter.
Call of Duty sells millions, Titanfall 2 much less, but it's better.

It does between the same franchise.

CoD sales normally are compared between themselves, so we can tell what CoD is trash compared with another CoD game.

I'm comparing a Crash game sales with another Crash game sales, so is totally valid.

We going back to original spyro or ugly spyro?
Both. It may have a light world with original Spyro, and a dark world where he turns into ugly Spyro, with different powers.

Crash 4 would be one of the best platformers of all time, if it didn't essentially require absolute perfection in evilly designed challenges to achieve 100%.
The brutality of those requirements wasn't necessary in the slightest.
I think "it's the Dark Souls of X" is an abused expression, but Crash 4 deserves it and wears it like a medal of honor.
It's still an amazing game, but it openly wants you to hate it.

Hope they stick to the formula of Spyro 1-3 and don't make big departures.
Yeah, I have more faith in them doing Spyro correctly than how they did Crash because they were the ones who did the remake trilogy and it was delightful. Crash 4 while a very good game was absolutely terrible to 100% and that's a big part of the appeal in those games. However they didn't do the Crash trilogy remakes so maybe they didn't completely understand the design philosophy as well.

I still don't get the sales=quality

Understandable

I'll back you as much as I can...

I never found a way to enjoy the original 3 Crash games, the play mechanics felt clunky and dull; it was platforming tailored to the limitations of early 3D but then compromised by it by just having lanky jump physics and a long-churning/all-direction spin attack to avoid precision, plus the showy into-the-screen sequences which are iconic for the series but are irritating to play. Part 4, I didn't play (because again, I didn't like 1-3) but from play sessions I've watched, I've seen it do things like reward exploration (the old games seemed to just have extra space for setting up the graphic stage design and sometimes hiding apple boxes, but doesn't 4 have alternate routes on levels?)

The only ND game I've really ever truly loved is Jak 1.

Not saying everybody is insane for the acclaim (and I only played maybe 20% of Unch 2-3-4 and the first area of TLoU1; their shooting play in Uncharted 1 didn't sell me on this being a good direction for the company and the parts I played of the subsequent products had the same issues despite the production value... actually, it's kind of sad we didn't get "Uncharted Racer" since CTR and even Jak X were fun.) I just find a lot of the gameplay to criticize and in my case be turned off by in Naughty Dog games, and albeit I wouldn't take a stand against them being "quality" games, if somebody says they have reasons for liking a certain platformer (like, say, Crash 4) well above the classic Crash games, I have reason to believe them.

...Spyro meanwhile is such an odd-bird of a platforming game IMO, I'm always surprised and happy for its popularity. Most platformers are based on there being a slim hero who you can keep oriented in 3D easily because you're basically playing to the center of gravity and controlling a stick with feet (even chubby Mario is played via center mass,) but Spyro is this big tank-like figure (not that he's huge, but four-foot platforming heroes are rare and very often odd to play as; it's like every other platformer is the on-foot sections of Blaster Master and then Spyro is Sophia.) It's amazing to me that this series works and is craved for more, I hope Toys for Bob get to see this through.

The first 3 games are indeed very mediocre when compared to Mario or even Banjo. But graphics and sound were great and PS owners had few others decent platform games to play. I actually had some fun with 4.

Spyro was even worse to play than Crash back then. They'd really need to modernize the formula. Nostalgia won't be enough here.
