NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 to feature 2nd Gen Transformer model and Dynamic 6x Frame Generation

NVIDIA is set to announce DLSS 4.5 as the next step for its DLSS 4 stack, with changes centered on Super Resolution and a new "Dynamic Multi Frame Generation" path designed to better match a display's refresh-rate target.

For image quality, DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution moves to a "2nd generation transformer" model. NVIDIA says the training pipeline now covers more failure cases and uses a larger dataset, with the goal of better temporal stability, less ghosting, and cleaner anti-aliasing. The company also shared a DLSS 4 vs. DLSS 4.5 comparison slide that highlights reduced ghosting in motion.

Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, as the name suggests, is not locked to a single multiplier. Instead, users may see 3x to 6x more frames, depending on settings. NVIDIA frames this update as a way to deliver smoother gameplay on high-refresh monitors, including 240Hz panels.

According to NVIDIA, DLSS 4.5 will have day-one launch support and will be available through the NVIDIA App, while Dynamic Multi Frame Generation is coming later. NVIDIA also says users will be able to set a target FPS in the app up to the display's maximum refresh rate, with the feature dynamically adjusting how many frames are generated to meet that goal.

NVIDIA confirms DLSS 4.5 will be supported by all RTX GPUs (20, 30, 40, and 50 series). However, Dynamic 6x Frame Generation will launch in spring 2026 as an RTX 50 exclusive feature.

More details, including demos and videos comparing the new DLSS 4.5 transformer model, are to follow soon. NVIDIA will officially announce DLSS 4.5 tomorrow.

Formal announcement at 9PM PT.

DLSS4 is practically flawless already, so any improvements are more than welcome.
dlss transformer upscaling is not practically flawless, not at all

there are a lot of games where it introduces ghosting and other weird issues like broken volumetric effects and reduced particle density

nice to hear that they're finally improving the transformer model. i hope this update fixes some of the glaring issues in certain games

This is so nice

Being able to use new DLSS tech on my "old" 3060 is a blessing. It gives new life to my card.

Nvidia is ass, but DLSS is so good

6x frame gen sounds useless unless you're on a 500hz panel.
3x and 4x (150-200 fps) already look very "choppy" in fast-paced scenes at less than 50 per second simulation tick rate ("real" frame rate).
For 240hz, 6x would mean a base frame rate of 40fps.

Better DLSS is always a good thing though.

If they can do 6x on 50 series GPUs, then surely they can do 3x on 40 series. Stop gatekeeping this shit Nvidia... now is the time to being MFG to 40 series GPUs.

This is great news. Legit useful technology for those with displays that don't have VRR and need to keep things at a solid V-Sync.

Come on ultra performance mode, I know they're going to make it look great on a big 4k display with this update.

My card is going to last years with this, which is more of a relief than anything.

I much rather, if I have to choose, some slight fizzing when the camera is still over ghosting when the game moves. So many times the trade-off is getting worse motion clarity vs stability… :/. People in general seem to be happy about that but not sure how…

Can't wait to see 2nd gen transformer model and how much better it is, that's the most exciting part of this news.

Hopefully the 6x framegen means also that they improved performances of 2x, 3x and 4x.

Have next to zero interest in framegen/high refresh.....everything else sounds awesome

Cant wait for 4.5
DLSS4 is already amazing, but there are definitely issues with ghosting and some other stuff. Hope we dont have to wait long

Just out of curiosity, does stuff like this have any implications for Switch 2? I don't even know what DLSS version that system supports.

Switch 2 uses a custom solution that I don't think is based on the transformer model, so probably not.

6X is fine for 360hz panels. Why not maximise the smoothness on your high refresh rate monitor, while maxing out graphics on demanding games and sticking to an internal framerate of 60? Or rather, why not have that as an option?

6x will be pretty neat. But only with really high refresh rate monitors. Like 360hz+. But 480hz+ would be even better.

"dynamic multi-frame generation", sounds a lot like Lossless Scaling's Adaptive mode. Neato.

Switch 2 runs a customized older version of DLSS. Probably nothing.

Switch 2 only uses the older DLSS CNN upscaling. Not the transformer model introduced in DLSS4, DLSS4.5 won't be used on Switch 2 either.

Switch 2 has a very low amount of tensor cores, which are used for DLSS, it's basically on the lowest rung of DLSS capable GPUs out there. It's slow at upscaling which is why for the titles that do upscale to 4k they have to use the special light-weight DLSS.

Switch 2 only has 48 Tensor Cores, even the RTX 2050 Mobile has more at 64.

With 6x FG those large green bars will look even better on their marketing "performance" benchmarks slides.

Yeah I was thinking it might be some Nintendo-specific/limited solution. Thanks!

Framegen needs to work on the strobing issue I see with certain things, like grass and fences. I now have a RTX 5080 and I framegen is much better than what I was expecting.
I was expecting al kinds of lag and artifacts, but really the only issue I have is some areas do that strobing thing where it looks like the ground is blinking really fast.

I can't wait for the AI Bubble to burst and bring nvidia back to earth again. As a gamer I want crisp and clean visuals and reactive gameplay. AI Upscaling just smears the picture during movement and frame generation adds aditional latency. Obviously their main customers are not gamers so they don't care.

Frame gen works well and it's actually useful if you know how and when to use it.

Any improvement on the technology is welcome. My 480Hz panel says thanks.

6x framegen? love to see it, but wonder how well that looks since 4x already only looks like 95% as good as rendered to me.

Free updates and options are always nice. The tech will only get better over time.

Jokes on you, console peasant.
it's not free because you have to buy a 50 series, genius, for a software update, and for something that will increase the developer lazyness :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:

PCMR supporters are literally the funniest entities on the globe. they really like being f***ed

I am. Thanks Nvidia. I can use frame gen on single player games with path tracing that I play with a controller as I don't notice the input lag at all.

Also. The fact they are announcing this for 5000 and not keeping it as a 6000 series exclusives tell me there is no real tech that is 6000 exclusive ( or most likely there isn't ) . Which is great news for 5000 owners. As in there is no real reason to upgrade if you are happy with your 5000 performance

One thing I have learned from this forum is that behind every laughing emoji lies an insecure console warrior.

Yeah same here, just got that card last week and yesterday I was playing Indiana Jones dlc now with that full path tracing that was added and frame gen. Besides the annoying VRR flickering on the monitor the game was perfectly playable and enjoyable. I really didn't expect such a good experience with pushing it like that.

So anyway all of these DLSS updates/improvements sound good.

i'm just talking truth my man. I have 3k rig, and i play on it. I'm just not stupid to not see that this AI trend is going to be a disaster for the gaming community.

Can't wait to check it out. Always fun to play around with these things.
