Normal way? Countries like Germany still until recently continued to buy Russian gas. And they supposed to be allies of USA and Ukraine against Russia.

I hope at one point people will realize this does not work.

Dunno why you bring Germany into this, Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Also, the NATO country cozying up most to Russia right now are the US. You think the Danes - who have one of the most clear-eyed and rational governments in Europe - are suddenly an enemy of the United States? Denmark has already given Greenland home rule and the eventual option of independence if they so desire. But right now, foreign policy and military deployments on the island is still the domain of the Danish government. If the US tries to change that, it would be the end of NATO, as Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has stated. Maybe Trump really wants to end the world order it leads for some cheap land grap, we'll see.

That reminder already happened in Venezuela the last 25 years. Only the names of the groups they "came for" were different.

Interesting, isn't it?

Unsure what your point is, considering that a country with 9 million people out produces a nation with over 200+ million people in it per capita?

Lets just hope this doesn't end in a Pinochet like dictatorship where thousands of innocent people are slaughtered thanks to USA meddling.

Anyone remember Chile 1973?

It took almost 2 decades for that country to begin to heal after the diabolical shit show Nixon, Kissinger, and the CIA backed.

The prime reason for that was still the people living there.

Plenty of "meddling" and deaths as a result of Russia in Latin America. Cuba and Venezuela didn't get where they are today without help from Moscow.

I'll be surprised at this point if we don't take Greenland. It's not my personal desire to see Greenland taken by force, just what I see as unfolding.

There's a standard-issue pre-invasion playbook, and we're following it. First you claim the existing owners don't have a rightful claim to the land, then you say the people living there aren't being protected by the existing government, then you say it's become a breeding ground of bad actors plotting harm to the country seeking to annex it. Here's what we've said lately:

-Proclaimed that Denmark doesn't have a legitimate claim on the territory.
-Claimed that Greenlanders are being harmed by Denmark's administration and don't want to be ruled by them anyway.
-Claimed that Greenland is crawling with Russian and Chinese ships.

The White House press memo is easy to imagine when it happens. "To protect the people of Greenland from years of mismanagement, and to expel foreign forces which have taken control of the island and its waters, the U.S. is assuming Greenland as a protectorate."

It's pretty much how I see it too. I genuinely hope we're wrong.

We are not invading Greenland. Too much economic value in the US-EU trade. Every single lobbying group in every industry would be against this.

From removing a dictactor to attacking a country who's people are happy? Give an inch and America takes a fucking mile. Is this what freedom looks like? How the fuck does Denmark feel about this? It's getting silly now.

America may as well try it on with Canada next. The world has gone absolute bananas. I'm often wonder what people thought of Germany's first moves, without immediate social media coverage back in the day. How could any nation support any move on Greenland with the last one being pretty divided already?

You are comparing buying oil and gas to military threats?

This is for the whole EU. USA saw some big gains...

Well, you have to understand that Americans are just "fat, lazy and uneducated."

As they type that using their American tech, and go through life with large swaths of American innovation, invention, and improvement!

Innovation and IP, yes. But tech production is almost 100% Chinese. And without Taiwan (TSMC) and Netherlands (ASML) none of that high end tech would be possible to make.

Happy? Have you ever been to Greenland? They are miserable, poor, alcoholic, prone to domestic violence. It's one of the least happy countries I have ever been to.

If the Mighty Ducks taught me anything, Iceland > Greenland. But not enough reason to take action against the country Donald.

Interesting shit getting buried in the news.

The US can take Greenland whenever it wants and Denmark can't do anything to stop it. Nor can anybody else. Pretending otherwise is just stupidity but I know the world has been in this sort of haze since 1945 where we pretend Europe is not a vassal state of the USA empire.

Not saying it should or would take Greenland, but that's the way of the world.

Take Greenland and NATO ends overnight. And frankly America will need its alliances against China. Fucking about with Venezuela is one thing but we need a reality check here. A nation with 200x times the ship building capacity of the US... Vs a country struggling to build desperately needed frigates, and falling behind on its sub construction etc. The allies dominated the second world war because it pooled resources on an unprecedented scale, something the axis never did.

Removing dictator of communist country is one thing

I have no problem with this.

but military intervention in democratic country that is a part of NATO is another. No different than Russian "foreign policy".

This is the insane foreign policy. Announcing you're going to take Greenland, and by military force if necessary, is mind blowing.

Stopping the advance of China and Russia in Americas is not an insane foreign policy, here in South America we had +20 years of fucking commie leaning ideology that amounts to nothing but corrupt politicians with full pockets and worse quality of life for the general populace in the persuit of "equality" and "muh communism wasn't well implemented all these years, but somehow it will work out now, trust us and gives us another chance or else" FML...

Relax. I was referring to Greenland.

Talking about taking Greenland and taking Greenland are not the same thing. If you believe President Trump won't take Greenland, consider what else could he be doing by talking about it.

What about the disastrous events caused by bombing Libya and helping overthrow Muammar Gaddafi?

Because that's what Obama did...

Ask the people who are screaming about what Trump did if they were fine with Obama doing something much worse. Strange how that works, huh?
Libya and Syria are the two most catastrophic decisions made by Obama. It directly led to the worst refugee crisis since World War II and Shengen, which has damaged Europe beyond recognition. It also led towards the rise of Isis, which managed to envelope larges swathes of Iraqi and Syrian territories. Intervention in Iraq, Syria, and Libya were just dumb decisions, ultimately. I understand Saddam was a brutal dictator, but sometimes it is better to deal with the deal you know.

Who said "tech production"?

We invented / completely improved in vast ways, tons of tech you use now. Get over it.

We then took it, for cheaper production, to another developing country.

But I never mentioned production.

Regarding ASML, I am happy for you, congrats.

But you don't produce anything at this point. Chinese brands produce (and design) very competitive phones, tvs, agd stuff, cars etc. They only don't know how to make high end CPU, GPU, RAM etc. (so far at least). And USA without TSMC (and TSMC without ASML) can only design stuff on paper. Germans developed first cars but Henry Ford perfected production...

And software stuff (Google, MS, Facebook, X etc.) was spread by monopolistic practices around the world. Western world is using it but China for example uses mostly domestic products, so if rest of the world decides to abandon US software it's very possible to switch to something else.

Would think the US strikes a deal with Denmark/Europe/NATO over Greenland regarding greater access, defence and rights to let's say mineral or natural resources.

It is in everyones interests for that to be done anyway. Otherwise you get a scenario that is messy for all sides.

So logically that's what I'd expect. But of course not always how things play out!

Ironically I don't think shoring up defenses has been a concern for Greenlanders as there's been no threat of any invasion at all, aside of course from the one country that's offering to shore up their defensives?

That's the kind of bonkers we're dealing with here. Proper Goodfellas kind of stuff.

Do you realize how dumb it is to mention the country of production who stole nearly all the tech from other countries moving production to them as something other than that? Who cares where it is made, who invented / sent it into production and reality it is what should matter.

Do you play your Foxconn Playstation, or do you play your Sony Playstation?

See. It's ridiculous, and nothing but a cope to help you minimize the positive impact of the USA due to...

- Jealousy?

- Because it's cool to hate?

- ???

The same can be said for people who were mad at Obama for doing that and cheerleading this, hypocrisy is the name of the game when it comes to politics. Both sides call the other out for doing something and turn around and cheerlead their side when they do basically the same thing and that's one reason why things never get better.

Neither party has a good track record with regime change, nobody should be cheerleading it, they should always look at their leaders with some skepticism, especially when they lie to us about why they are doing it in the first place. This was never about drugs it was always about the oil, not just taking it over but keeping it from others. They tired to blame fentanyl on Venezuela when that comes from Mexico.

Gaddafi was responsible for the deaths of nearly 200 Americans, it was still a mistake to remove him from power when we did, things have only gotten worse there. If he was going to be taken out it should have been when the bombing happened in the late 1980's. They claim they did it because he was killing innocent people there, are things better now? nope, we just have to accept that we can't sort out the problems in that part of the world and let them work it out for themselves.

But Denmark and Greenland both said "no" like 17 times over the last year. Is that a real-estate broker tactic ?
In business you never take no as a final answer. There are always paths to a deal. The goal is to keep the other party at the table until you can find the right terms.

That said, I don't agree with the idle motions toward military force since Europeans will complain about it for decades.

I'm not trying to downplay what America and Americans achieved. Shit ton of stuff was invented by Americans, on American soil or elsewhere but only possible to happen thanks to American money (investment). USA system gives more opportunities to entrepreneurs and inventive people.

But most of people in Europe are using Chinese or Korean phones (brands), driving European cars and using Japanese or Chinese electronics. Most impact comes from US software, Android was done by google and most social platforms used in the west were made by American companies. But this can change at any point, Tik Tok is massive and made by Chinese and mainland china don't use any of american social platforms. It's not like people can't just switch to non US software.

China stole a lot of stuff (from US, Europe, Japan etc.) but in the end they can make anything besides some cutting edge stuff. And losing that ability was a big mistake for the western world...

Yeah I read the book of an FBI negociator who basically was saying "when people say "no" it actually means you can start to negociate"

Lets say it like it is - 'military force' is actually a threat of violence. Who uses threats of violence at a negotiating table? Gangsters generally, or at best, a bully who only ever punches down to get what they want.

Europe doesn't matter anymore. Their policies over the past 20-30 years have made them completely irrelevant on the world stage

There is a negotiation going on between Ukraine, Russia, and the US to end the war. Europe is completely uninvolved in this negotiation process despite two of the 3 countries being located in Europe. All they can do is "monitor the situation" and issue sternly worded press releases but their actual power to influence these negotiations is zero

Closed briefing > leaks immediately.

The intent from President Trump is to change the 'no deal' outcome in the minds of the Danish from 'status quo continues' to '....they might just take it', and thus The Deal looks more appealing comparatively. President Trump is probably bluffing, but you can't be sure he is bluffing.

It is coming up again now because he has just reminded everyone that he is willing to make good on his ultimata.

Europe doesn't have to consistently hold zero cards in every negotiation, it is a choice.

That's mostly on Trump's fault for thinking like a Boomer. He did the same in Afghanistan, when he organized negociations with the Talibans directly when talking about withdrawing from there, not involving the Afghanistan government (the Doha agreement). And of course Afghanistan government collapsed, the Talibans went back to power and now women there have almost no rights.

This is a terrible and short-sighted way of doing things.

But on a more serious note, i would just do a hong kong and say US can lease greenland for 50 years at obscene amounts of income that basically puts Denmark economy up massively.

To be fair they have been complaining for decades already

With that logic, EU should demand US to sell its land because they have nukes targeted at america and will use them if not.
USA has nukes and more of them.

The best Europe came up with was to threat USA with NATO

Europe as it is now is weak and fading. But I wouldn't rule it out completely.

As a collective, with the right governance and strategy it can become a force to be reckoned with again.

Things may change dramatically over the next decade.

I guess we'll see how each European country electorates reacts to all these events.

Signs have pointed towards widespread and growing disastisfaction and desire for change very soon in all major European economies.
