Sonic X Shadow Generations | Review Thread

I bought this because it was around 25 bucks, and I feel like I got suckered.
I mean, I grew up with the Blue Blur, and as a Genesis kid, there's no franchise I'd love to see succeed more than Sonic.
they've killed any possibility of Mania 2, so it might as well be dead to the world.
Advice to all old-school 2D Sonic fans for the future, no matter how many of us like some of the newer 3D games and rate some of them highly, don't bother purchasing and playing them.

I know this might sound harsh and gatekeep-y, but 2D fans have stated over and over...and over, that you guys simply do not like the 3D games

Don't waste money. Don't even be tempted.

Let the 3D fans enjoy their 3D, and then the 2D fans can enjoy their 2D content. Let the split be the split.

Now from saying that Dacvak Dacvak , I will recommend some good, positively-rated 2D Sonic-likes for you:

Love Freedom Planet 1 & 2. I'll definite give the others a try.

And you're totally right. I really hate the 3D Sonic games.

This game is a perfect example of beloved IP selling a dogshit game. Somehow it feels even worse than the original Sonic Generations on X360.

I really want to hear from the defenders who endorse the horrible camera and jank-ass movement of this piece of shit game. I'm mad I spent any amount of money on this.

Maybe back in 2011 I was a bit more lenient. I mean, I grew up with the Blue Blur, and as a Genesis kid, there's no franchise I'd love to see succeed more than Sonic. But this game just feels so shit. I have so many thoughts about how easily this experience could have been improved, but I don't even want to waste my time typing them out.

This game sucks. This studio sucks. It makes me feel like this entire franchise sucks, but I know that's not true. But unfortunately, they've killed any possibility of Mania 2, so it might as well be dead to the world.

Let me be a lesson. I hope no one else spends any money on this shit-ass game.
2D sections suck but 3D are good. Unfortunately you're just in the minority and it's okay to not like something.

Never had a problem with the camera or movement with either game and I've been playing it since 2011.

Im sorry the game is not your cup of tea but whenever I hear people complain about a good 3D Sonic like Generations it's almost always people who don't bother to actually get the gameplay mechanics down and suck shit at the game. Shadow Generations actually controls very well too so too bad.

Shadow Generations is much much better, give that a go!

And I always thought Sonic Generations was shit.

I can understand not liking the movement in Generations, especially if they are not familiar with the boost gameplay but the camera? The game only plays in one direction and the camera points to it, constantly swerving to show the optimal path, what is wrong with it? I can't think of any boost game where the camera can even be considered a slight issue.

Sonic Generations sucks, always thought it did. Level-design is pretty bad, a lot worse that Unleashed which was and still is fantastic. Loved the 3DS game though.

However, Shadow Generations is awesome. Best 3D game since Unleashed.

Sonic fans never agree on whats good or sucks. It's someone saying "Sonic xyz game" is terrible but at the same time it's the best ever lol. Damn near every game.

Until Shadow Generations... Never seen someone saying it's shit. At least the angry fans say it's decent.

I used to love Sonic Generations, but it's aged pretty badly. I still enjoy it for what it is, though. Shadow Generations is fine, but it doesn't blow my balls off like it does for some people. It's just ordinary to me.

3D Sonic fans reasonably have this issue because every few Sonic games, Sonic Team decides to try a new control scheme, new momentum, new jumping style, new boost/run, new physics, etc.

It's why I think Nintendo made the right call about making most newer 3D Mario games feel like a variation of Mario Galaxy's jumping, running, and physics. They experimented with 64 and Sunshine, then settled on something that worked. My luke warm take with this is that I would choose Mario 64's character control 10 times over the others, but clearly the devs at Nintendo must have felt that 64 was simply too loose and janky.

I have a hot take about which 3D Sonic games control the best, but both of my suggestions are agreed-upon as bad 3D Sonic games by 3D Sonic fans.

Regardless, 2D Sonic fans should never have this issue as long as they stay away from the 3D games.

There aren't fans of both? Personally the only games I didn't enjoy was 2K6 because is was broken and the story book games just weren't my jam. Love the classics and Superstars and the 3D stuff. I agree Mario 64 movement is probably the best 3D character movement ever still.

I think 3D fans are more open to enjoying the 2D games. However more often than not, the average old school 2D fan (even those in games media) for the last 25 years have said how every 3D game makes them miss the genesis titles and mania.

At this point it's better to tell them to just stop wasting money, or at least spend that money on those titles I posted above which will give them what they want.
