Microsoft Gaming Revenue Q2: Gaming (-9%), Hardware (-32%), Content and Services (-5%); Operating expenses increased driven by impairment charges

how the fuck is LinkedIn posting billions in revenue. Is it ads? Who the fuck spends all day on linkedIn?
Surprisingly a lot of people now days. X/Twitter is 🚮 , Bluesky - 😂, and LinkedIn is a "safe" / neutral space for professionals to post social media crap that looks good for their career. Plus it helps with networking.

Now, I am sure MS is going to try their hardest to impliment their "enshitification protocol", but for now it is good at what it does.

I love how after DarkMage, Senjutsusage, @Riky, Gavon West, Kvally and all their other footsoldiers exited the building, they sent T Tobimacoss to do their bidding with no preparation and no protection.

When all of this is over, I'm going in raw.

At least give them a pillow to bite down on, you savage!

I sometimes wonder if they would have been in a better financial position without Gamepass. The amount of money they must have thrown at acquisitions and day ones to keep the fucking thing alive is madness. You at least need to sell a shit ton of games to offset any hardware losses, and now they are having to rely on PlayStation gamers.

Microsoft needs to start promoting its stuff in actual gaming and platform-focused shows, their own marketing is just not viewed enough.

They also need to start inking deals with Sony and Nintendo for timed exclusivity of DLC or even entire games.

A big part of why EA ate their lunch this year is they took over Sony's deal with COD and switched it over to BF6. Ending that deal was a spectacular failure on that retard Spencer's part (he even went up on stage and tried to cast shade on dealings that made COD big to the point where he wanted to take it over).

Right now Microsoft Gaming is composed of a limping, almost dead platform business and a 3P publishing play that's working with one hand behind its back. Either that changes or the firings will continue until morale improves.

I don't think that's the problem. They show off games at the TGAs, Summer Game Fest, Gamescon, they've had ports shown off at State of Plays and various PC game showcases, in addition to their own Directs and Showcases. Of the 3 console platform holders they actually have the most presence at various gaming events annually, tho buying two massive publishers obviously helps a ton with that.

The only shows they aren't really at are Nintendo's, and I've got no reason why. Tho I'm kinda (slightly amusingly) going with a theory that MS are intentionally avoiding Nintendo out of spite because certain stuff they wanted to do through proxies i.e ValueAct got exposed and have been defiantly shut down/squeezed out.

MS's problem is the same as what SEGA had at the Late '90s: their name and Xbox as a brand name, are just completely dead with the mass audience. They're done with it and have more or less moved on. It's why I've said, the only real hope a new gaming hardware from Microsoft has is to 100% abandon the Xbox brand name, and that's just to get their foot in the door. "Xbox" as a brand name is tainted and poisoned now; there's a reason companies like SEGA dropped the planet names after Saturn.

I'd also argue Microsoft have a lot more ill will towards them as a company (in large part because of the AI, also in part because of the Israel/Palestine stuff, in part because of Windows decline in quality etc.) than SEGA ever had even at their worst period as a platform holder. If that Magnus has 'Xbox' (or even 'Microsoft' I'd argue) on the box and in the marketing, it will be stillborn.

It's gonna pick up with Forza and Fable.

I'm skeptical.

They might see a slight bump in subscription increases when Forza Horizon 6 releases, but they won't see a sales bump until it releases for PS5.

As for Fable, I think that's a niche game at best, with probably the same general audience as Avowed or The Outer Worlds.

"below expectations" is not what you want to hear from Amy Hood.

"And in Gaming, revenue decreased 9% and 10% in constant currency. Xbox content and services revenue decreased 5% and 6% in constant currency and was below expectations driven by first-party content with impact across the platform."

She was so determined with that 30% profit margin few months ago.

More cuts, layoffs incoming? Stillborn Magnus?

Thanks for the link. Future quarter guidance:

And in Xbox content and services, we expect revenue to decline in the mid-single digits against a prior year comparable that benefited from strong content performance, partially offset by growth in Xbox Game Pass. And hardware revenue should decline year-over-year.

Just took a look at some of their terrible takes, and my word

It is a fallacy that all 3rd party games will hit Xbox anyway. There is plenty of evidence that many 3rd party games are either blocked by a timed exclusive or blocked entirely. MS has decided to not pay to keep a title off other platforms temporarily but purchase the studio and get a new continuous source of content for their platform. That makes way more sense for the long term. As someone else said MS preferred to 'buy over rent'. Some posters here should be able to appreciate that.

Activision should all make sense in the long term and we should be able to appreciate that.

"mICROSOFT'S mONEY iS my MONEY!! mICROSOFT MAKING $33 BILLION IS LIKE xBAWKS dIVISION MAKING $33 BILLION!! HA HA YOU'RE WRONG LOSER!!!"

Everyone in this thread laughing over COD numbers being down, forget that those sand numbers affect Sony's bottom line as well. There goes Sony's profit margins for that quarter.

I couldn't give less of an actual shit.

Anyone still thinking Xbox has a future in gaming after these numbers is beyond delusional. Satya and Amy are going to cut the cord. I don't even think Magnus has a future after these numbers and price hikes the hardware business is seeing thanks to shortages.

I've been an xbox fan for 25 years, but this is the year where they lost me. Dropped game pass for the first time ever due to the price increase, COD is pretty bad, etc. They're not a bad company but they're making all these short sighted decisions (game pass price increases, layoffs and closures, outsourcing everything overseas and to h1b's, etc) that are causing their quality to drop off a cliff (and making me switch to steam instead).

You wonder? Come on my guy, imagine instead of spending stupid amounts of money on a rental service they used that money instead to get 1st party devs support and/or they used it to buy 3rd party exclusives like they did in the 360 days! They'd be thriving right now. Fuck gamepass and fuck whoever thought it was a good idea to go this route. It ruined Xbox forever.

Users can pay money to get a premium account. Aside from ad revenue, the site also makes a ton off recruiter services.

But for a normie signing up for a base profile, it's like every other social media site where it's free, but you get reminded and nagged about the premium service.
