Bloober Team Teases Valentine's Day Reveal As 'Rule Of Rose' Remake

A creepy countdown website, found at remosdneulserorehsoovamceyerd.com, is currently ticking down the 17 days and various hours, minutes and seconds until Valentine's Day, February 14, when all will be revealed.

Visit the website today and there's a new snippet of text — "Some things never leave the walls. They only learn to wait." — as well as a button you can press to hear an excerpt from some poetry.

"Thou art sick... invisible flies in the night..." an intense-sounding voice reads out when the website's Play button is pressed. "Howling storm has found out thy bed of crimson joy... Dark secret thy life destroy." These sections are snippets of a William Blake poem named "The Sick Rose" — which could be a hint to what this is all about.

Alongside the Valentine's Day date and an image of a rose (which, when clicked, begins to bleed), clearly roses are a big theme here. It's enough that some fans have speculated that the tease is for a new Rule of Rose game, or remake of the original.

Released back in 2006 for PlayStation 2, the PlayStation-published survival horror title would seem to be within Bloober Team's wheelhouse. And, of course, Silent Hill fans needn't worry — the developer is also working on a remake of the franchise's original game too.

Rule of Rose definitely needed a remake since the gameplay was utter garbage. That said, I don't expect them to understand the actual themes and point of the game after how badly they botched SH2 in that department.

Thats would be interesting, I wonder they keep the core of the story or try to change it for "modern" audience?

I think no one can argue that gameplay needs to change, the original gameplay was very bad.

That game is barely known, not a cult classic, reviewed like shit, etc. Why waste your recently good track record on this slop instead of Cronos 2 or just focusing all efforts on SH1R?

omg, it's finally happening, I've been waiting over a decade for this moment. The game is on my most wanted remakes list along with Parasite Eve.

It's impossible for Bloober (or anyone else) to remake a PS2 game without losing all kinds of important details/aspects in the process.
Remade PS2 games put a massive spotlight on the PS2 and steer users away from modern PS consoles back to PS2 consoles.
Sony needs to add real PS2/PS1 HW to the next PlayStation console and just work through the PS2's massive catalog reissuing updated PS2 games designed for the new console.
This will give PlayStation owners access to real PS2 games on real PS2 HW at an affordable price.
On top of that, with PS2/1 HW on consoles Sony can officially reopen both the PS2/1 platforms to studios as less expensive development targets.

It's always funny how people think that companies can only do one game at a time.

Another remake while not rereleasing the original work? Oh, come on. And I think Rule of Rose was an interesting but very flawed game, so it's not like I'm a blind fanboy or something.

And it'd be a very curious one to remake, or give a sequel to.
If remake, it may play well, but the original was hella controversial in some places and they'd never keep it intact in today's world.
If sequel, the same applies for the overall themes of the game.

I never played the original, but I read that it played like shit and that it dealt with pretty sick themes. Even the OST is quite disturbing. I remember the game causing the usual half-a-week-long shitstorm against video games in my country when it released.

I vaguely remember rule of rose being controversial for some reason.
It was mainly made up shit, game is odd but that's about it.
Interesting enough, Sony still own the rights to the game and even renewed it's TM in 2018 which is due for renewal in 2028.

Oh my god if this somehow turns out to be true, this will be the wildest shit ever.

Nowhere in my wildest imaginations did I have a Rule of Rose revival on my bingo card.
