Poochie characters from the entertainment industry.

Based on The Simpsons, in this episode, there are characters who try to be popular, new, or something cool... and end up forgotten, hated, or failing.

Which characters do you consider to be these? I think this character from Sabrina the Teenage Witch... Dreama.

They thought she was going to be a breath of fresh air, but she was a flop.

Robert California on The Office. He's very off-putting. Dwight and Creed are, too, but California comes off as menacing where they don't. At least that was the vibe I got. Didn't watch much of the seasons when he was on board.

Agent John Doggett
Agent Monica Reyes

I like Doggett and Reyes individually. They're distinct from Mulder and Scully in how they express their believer/sceptic dynamic (Doggett's scepticism is more militaristic and set-in-his-ways than Scully; Reyes is more spiritualistic and new agey in her open-mindedness than Mulder), and Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish both bring a lot of depth to their portrayals. The problem is that the two actors had no chemistry with each other whatsoever, especially compared to the dynamite between David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, and the show makes the terrible decision of highlighting this by suggesting they're lovers, which immediately becomes the most implausible thing in a series about a vast extraterrestrial conspiracy. However, I'd argue that each character was a breath of fresh air on their own when they were introduced, and for me Reyes brings a really nice, lighter energy to episodes when she's given focus. That Chris Carter subsequently turned her into a collaborator, who is given the shamefully disrespectful death of being shot in the face while helping the CSM and never mentioned again, was by far the most unforgivable thing about the revival seasons and one of the most egregious pieces of character assassination (literally) I've ever seen.

Ignoring that, though, I'm pro-Doggett and (very) pro-Reyes, just not necessarily pro-Doggett and Reyes together.

Na uh, you guys are misunderstanding the assignment. We're talking about characters brought in to change the dynamic, weren't received well and then phased out/ignored.

Think Seven from Married with Children. Not characters you don't like.
I didn't know MM was received well in S-M2. I thought people disliked his inclusion. I feel like I need to lie down.

Nikki and Paulo from Lost. Abruptly introduced in Season 3 as Oceanic 815 survivors who were supposed to be unseen background survivors from previous seasons and were shoehorned into the main storyline randomly with the main characters. Hilariously killed off in the same season and were never mentioned again due to fan backlash.

OMG YES! They even gave them a horrific death to! They were poisoned by some spider or something and were paralysed and appeared dead, so when the others found them, they assumed they were dead, gave a brief eulogy and then buried them alive, I remember the camera shot of one of their eyes being covered by dirt.

Raiden, MGS2 probably. Great game, but most hated him at the time. Fortunately his reception changed by MGS4 and Rising.

May be personal opinion, and not the same character, but Rocky (Red Ranger) replacing Jason in MMPR felt like a big downgrade at the time, same for Ayesha, whereas the others felt great as fresh new characters taking the suit (Adam and Cat). It really was Tommy holding it together for a while, a good replacement leader, mind.

I liked Tracey in Pokémon Johto but perhaps he didn't land with many OG fans.

I had a feeling this thread would quickly devolve into 'successful characters I don't like'. Oh well.

I thought this bitch was going to Poochie Stranger Things. I was so relieved when it ended up being just a one-off episode.
She returned in the final season (so that it wasn't considered a retcon or loose thread) and she died (I think).

My pick goes to Venus, the female Ninja Turtle in the TMNT shows. They keep trying to make her work so many times...

Or Heimdall_Xtreme Heimdall_Xtreme will show up in your house unannounced and will be watching you whenever you're sleeping 👀

He'll be wearing a cosplay of Kat too

Doggett grow on me but Reyes was trying a too hard to replace Mulder and it never worked.

Vic Fontaine, DS9, very overexposed in the final season. :messenger_unamused:

I liked both new agents from the beginning but they were no Mulder and Scully. The actors playing them were both really good but it was just that part of The X-Files identity is Mulder and Scully which is why I don't think The X-Files Reboot will do good since how do you top two main leads that are Mulder and Scully. That's a tough act to follow

So, I really liked Spader's Robert California, and I think the "menacing" aspect is intentional. BUT I totally get people not liking the character. (The magazine I worked for years ago was bought by a Malibu-based publishing company, and our publisher *I SWEAR* was who they based Robert California on, which is why I kinda liked the character. The magazine pretty much folded in little over a year.)

I absolutely hated Raiden. Still do. Make him as badass as you want, he'll still be an annoying dork in one of the worst bait and switches I've ever experienced. Raiden is trash!
