Wake me up when there's an Odyssey film inspired by old fashioned sword and sandal films.. and not whatever this... thing Nolan is making.
I'd launch a thousand ships to make sure she stayed in Troy.
Which is why they ain't making epic movies about modern day ppl and probably never will.
Dudes back then had questionable morality but they had taste in women. And they welcomed them in all shapes, sizes, and colors.
Some of yall could learn from them
It's a legendary greek tale for greeks by greeks, he shouldn't touch this story when he clearly doesn't respect it.Hard disagree, I seen much prettier black women than Lupita Nyong'o. I'm not sure if it's confirmed she's Helen of Troy but the more I see of this movie, the less I want to watch it even if it's out on streaming
And she's not only reason why I'm not excited. Watching that trailer, all the armor look fake looking too. This whole movie looks bad. But who knows, there's a possiblity I might be wrong. But I doubt it
I never read The Odyssey but isn't the whole cast nationality Greek? Since it's Nolan actually adopting the book, he should have stuck with an all white cast
It's not real. Doctored image from 12 Years a Slave.

You can't have an all white cast and be eligible for Oscars.Hard disagree, I seen much prettier black women than Lupita Nyong'o. I'm not sure if it's confirmed she's Helen of Troy but the more I see of this movie, the less I want to watch it even if it's out on streaming

As for what men find attractive, if all these uggos were able to sell these movies than Hollywood wouldn't be going bankrupt
You can't have an all white cast and be eligible for Oscars.
By the Oscars 'rules' you would need substantial POC representation in your crew if the actors were all white. So to do a 17th century irish bio-pic with an all irish cast and crew would, be default, exclude you from oscar consideration unless you aggressively hired non-irish crew. But a Nigerian based film with all nigerian cast/crew would be ok, despite it being all 1 ethnicity. Or all Maori. Or all Persian. Or Indian. Or Mexican. Or Peruvian. Or lots and lot of other groups, so long as they aren't white. THAT is the problem, it isn't about diversity or representation, it's just about not white.Technically you can, but realistically you probably wouldn't be allowed to win if you did.

I can't tell if you think I was joking or not. I'm also not sure what your point is about Oppenheimer. I mean clearly how good a movie is had nothing to do with the racial makeup of its cast. But anyway these are simply the rules …I find it extra hilarious due to Oppenheimer being an all white cast and now he's going with all diverse cast
Especially funny when Oppenheimer won Best Picture and multiple other awards at The Oscars 2024
I'd launch a thousand ships to make sure she stayed in Troy.
Yeah there's 4 criteria (cast, crew, internships/apprenticeships/training, marketing side) and the movie has to meet at least 2 of them.By the Oscars 'rules' you would need substantial POC representation in your crew if the actors were all white. She is in the movie
This video clip from a year ago confirms. So it's still a rumor that she's playing Helen.
travis scott is the person who ignored people getting stomped to death at his concert, he was informed what was happening, and he continued the concertI dont think anyone in this movie is particularly ugly

he is ugly inside and out, I can't believe that he is allowed in any production
Helen of Troy was not described as "blonde and fair skinned" in original verse of the epic. Greeks were not Nords. The portrayal of the likes of Alexander the Great and others as blonde haired pale people is as much a fantasy as the portrayal of Greeks as subsaharan Africans.
No surprise though, this guy is the average ascendant Xitter user obsessed with trve Evropean aesthetics. 2 sides, one coin.
No, I wouldn't cast Nyong'o in this movie as anyone from the epic, but I also wouldn't cast Bawston Matt as fucking Odysseus or Tom Holland as his son.
Agree. It's like showing the Christian God in a movie. The reality is supposed to be so overwhelming that it's incomprehensible; it'd be effective to leave it to imagination.Don't show Helen. Would be far more effective that way. She's supposed to be so fucking hot that Prince Paris knew he was risking all out war if he took her away, and he didn't a give a fuck. Something like that is best left to people's imagination.

Chris Nolan rarely disappoints me, so I'm down for whatever he's doing. Hes earned that trust
And even if there were many women our there prettier than lupita, which i doubt, I also doubt they have her acting skills. But Chris Nolan isn't known for his female characters being very prominent anyways.
I see a lot of reddit "cinephiles" and such arguing about the armor but I can't bring myself to care about that sort of thing for a movie like this. The odyssey is a fantastical work and I feel like Nolan is using that as an excuse to basically make a modern epic with about as much concern for realism as the original epics had. Which isn't much.
Bit time will tell. Again, a lot of this is riding on his reputation as a filmmaker for me snd me trusting that he knows what he's doing and doing what he knows.
I dont think anyone in this movie is particularly ugly, but I dont go to movies for pretty faces. Thats very low on the scale of importance to me.\
As for the odyssey, it's a fantasy of Greek origin. Bur Greek wasn't all white, it had a lot of immigrants and trade and such. Probably not to the level this movie will feature it, but again. This is a fantastical epic narrative, and thats all I want to be delivered. The rest is theatrical set dressing, and my viewing mind will take that into account
I disagreeAgree. It's like showing the Christian God in a movie. The reality is supposed to be so overwhelming that it's incomprehensible; it'd be effective to leave it to imagination.

I wouldn't exactly compare those to this
Helen (Ancient Greek: Ἑλένη, romanized: Helénē), also known as Helen of Troy, or Helen of Sparta, and in Latin as Helena, was a figure in Greek mythology said to have been the most beautiful woman in the world. She was believed to have been the daughter of Zeus by Leda or Nemesis, and the sister of Clytemnestra, Castor, Pollux, Philonoe, Phoebe and Timandra.
I just thought it was funny picture to share in this context.I wouldn't exactly compare those to this

She was shown as recently as 2004 in the Troy movieSo I checked IMDB yesterday because of this thread, and the character under Lupita's listing was blank. As of today, though:

It's pretty accurate to the time period and the people involved. A lot of scientists were aligned with or sympathetic to communism at the time (still are…), with the notable exception of von Neumann who urged that we preemptively nuke Moscow. Regardless, it's a film from Oppenheimer's perspective so his enemies are the film's villains.Oppenheimer was half of a good movie and half pro commy propaganda
Accurate but also wrong on it's morality. No doubt you know this but it bears repeating every chance one gets, Communism is bad, there were spies in the US stealing our secrets and we needed to put people on trial. Oppenheimer is no exception. Mcarthy was right and is misalgned by every piece of hollywood media we see. It's pretty accurate to the time period and the people involved.
