Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Was he 100% sure that none of the Horizon 3 team are occupied on the Hunter Gather side-game?

this guy is never wrong. he's called every single disaster over at sony. dont expect horizon 3 for at least another 3 years. probably a ps5 ps6 cross gen title. that would mean its a 6 year dev time, but like we saw with DS2 and Ghost 2, that doesnt mean anything when it comes to sony studios. Expect HFW quality visuals. The SP teams over at sony just dont have the budget to invest in R&D. Sad sorry state of affairs.

MS has Fable, Forza, Halo and Gears set to release this year. Let's hope they find some success this year. Last year they had games but they were all mostly garbage or mid tier stuff that sony or nintendo will never be scared of.

SlimySnake SlimySnake unless I'm reading this wrong (and apologies if I am), what you posted isn't lining up with what he is saying and I'm slightly confused.

He is saying that most of the H3 team was working on Hunter Gather, right?

But you're saying that they've been working on H3 for too long to show nothing. But how could they be doing that if they were busy working on Hunter Gather?

yeah it seems the main team is the horizon gaas team. that explains why they've gone 4 years without showing anything. they got nothing because they were told to go slave away on this garbage.

another visually interesting game that doesn't get enough credit
the art direction is all that you'd expect from a cosmic horror game

I doubt it would make a big difference to me, i'm more of a assetts/texture guy than a lights/shadow afecionado :lollipop_grinning_sweat:
I think the old school way of lighting is about to reach the end of it's rope.

It is slowly becoming glaringly apparent when RT/PT is turned off for a modern game on console.

Indiana Jones is one of the biggest examples and also some recent Ubisoft games that have been posted here. It's almost night and day, like someone didn't finish the shading on a drawing or painting.

those screenshots looked amazing on my iphone oled lol.
on my 65 inch oled. not so much. if it comes to a subscription service, i will give it a chance.
it's one of those games where everything looks better in motion, It's not mindblowing, but it is consistently pleasant to look at
( the improved smoother animations also help the graphics in this game )

Without rtx, dl the beast was just ok/good.
I had the same suspicion

I played the first 10 hours without the update and it still managed to impress me.

although I must say I am a bit partial to its gameplay so
I stuck around long enough to see its beauty shine across levels and different times of day

some games are like that. they are worth the investment,
like GoT started off looking like a PS3 title but then after a few unlocked areas it convinces you of its artistic worth

Reminds me of starfield color palette a bit.
I absolutely love games with colour palettes/gradings that seem to have been intentionally chosen way in advance of the production phase
The sort of colour palette that remains loyal to their corresponding concept art that was imagined in the inchoate stage of the game and is only further improved on with cinematographic techniques.
[e.g. The Order1886, The Ascent, Callisto Protocol]

It's not rocket science what's gone wrong at Sony. That twat Jim Ryan thought they weren't making enough GaaS garbage so entire studios were put on that. Yes it was a total disaster, and has probably cost us at least 5 great single player games this generation. It absolutely fucking sucks.

But to go from that to this conspiracy that entire studios have forgotten how to make good graphics or don't care or are just suddenly lazy is fucking pathetic conspiracism.

We won't be getting graphics we expect in 2026 because frankly games are made for power from 2020 for ps5 and series s output. So yes console hold graphics back but it it what it is. Comapnies try to find ways to push grpahcis but its near impossible

Sony is posting record profits, no? So I don't think anything is wrong with them.

Money is the objective standard by which companies are measured.
Not by gamers and final clients, who gives a fuck about their records when their output has been abysmal and they stopped giving a fuck about having cutting edge graphic and tech?

Only sony shareholders should give a fuck about records...

But the PS5 keeps selling so not everyone feels the same.

To make it sound much worse, developers are beginning to incorporate Switch 2 versions into their own game render & simulation targets. This caps the generational baseline pretty hard.

They're also obsessed with pushing their games to be "Steam Deck Verified" which is such a stupid thing since the install base on that hardware is extremely small.

Both of these aforementioned hardware, are more or less as powerful as base PS4. Switch 2's CPU is slightly more powerful than PS4's freaking Jaguar CPU.

It's a travesty!

Jason Schrier said Horizon 3 is a long way away. I was wondering why after 4 years of development they still dont have a trailer ready. I was hoping to at least see something at the Februrary state of play later this month.

I really dont understand this. 4 years, and cant even make a trailer. I was complaining about ND and CD project taking 4 years to make two shitty trailers then after 5 years taking a sabbatical instead of revealing a gameplay trailer, but GG has topped them lmao.

Forget next gen graphics, the real battle for the laziest developer.
It's because they are working on that Horizon: Fortnite Overwatch thing.

60+ minute show for Sony this week. They haven't done an hour long show since e3 2023 and the last one before that was the ps5 reveal.

I wonder if Horizon 4 shows up here. We know nd crunched out a gameplay demo for intergalactic before Christmas. Let's see if the graphics have gotten an upgrade.

I'm guessing wolverine And a teaser for Cory's next game as well. Its been 8 years lol

Wolverine, Saros and Hunters Gathering. (mostly latter I suppose)
I think they revealed Horizon gathering early to avoid tainting the state of play. This way they have isolated all the backlash to that one video, and the main state of play event wont be marred by any controversy.

Granted ND can put out a bald ugly lead and that will cause more controversies but i think if the gameplay demo is unique and explosive like the Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 4 demos, most people wont care.

the game has a built in post processing effect that cuts the effective resolution down to ¼ of the output res.

to fix that on PC, find the file GameUserSettings.ini, which is found in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Routine\Saved\Config\ there's either a folder called Windows or WinGDK in there, and in that folder you'll find the file.
and modify the following variables:

sg.ResolutionQuality=

ResolutionSizeX=
ResolutionSizeY=
LastUserConfirmedResolutionSizeX=
LastUserConfirmedResolutionSizeY=

DesiredScreenWidth=
DesiredScreenHeight=
LastUserConfirmedDesiredScreenWidth=
LastUserConfirmedDesiredScreenHeight=

the blue variable is basically a resolution slider. 100 = 100% etc. this affects the orange variables.
the orange variables represent the internal resolution of the game. if you want the actual render resolution of the game to match your screen resolution, then take your screen res and double each value.
so if you play on a 1920x1080 screen, set those variables to 3840 for the X values, and 2160 for the Y values. if you play on a 2560x1440 screen then it would be 5120 for X and 2880 for Y.

the green block are your screen resolution. so set that to whatever screen you have. 1080p would be 1920 on the Width, and 1080 on the Hight values.

and again, the top blue variable is like a resolution slider. if that increased resolution doesn't run well, just lower the number of that variable from 100 to maybe 80, for an 80% resolution on each axis.

I would also highly recommend turning SSR off, because it's insanely grainy and has tons of ghosting. the game has really good cubemaps, and almost no dynamic objects. so SSR is completely nonsensical anyway. all it does is add noise, fizzle and ghosting to the image in motion.

to remove SSR create a text file, rename it to engine.ini in the same folder as the GameUserSettings.ini file is located, and add these lines:
[SystemSettings]
r.SSR.Quality=0

EDIT: just to show the difference it made for me on a 1440p screen (meaning by default the post processing step cut my resolution down to 720p) here is a comparison:

DEFAULT:

and to show the SSR difference, I am moving forwards here, and the reflections behind the doorway to the right come into view. notice how they are completely grainy and low quality. looks even worse in motion as they ghost like hell

Thanks for posting, I was waiting for this one to come out but never heard anything since seeing the teaser a while ago. Looks pretty damn good.

Black Myth: Zhong Kui — 6 Min In-Engine Chinese New Year Special Video

This looks phenomenal, although i have no clue what the fuck is happening in it. Phenomenal lighting. And.. The small details man. Food looks fantastic, the subtle animations, best in the business. Cannot wait for this game. You know their budget exploded. We are going to get one hell of a game here. Studio has talent.

Ice noticed this too. Now devs are making games as switch 2 is the lowest console. Even lower then series s tht held down the consoles

In-Engine doesn´t even mean real time. It means absolutely nothing, really.
This is quite literally just a random UE5 CGI video financed by the marketing budget.....

In-engine means it was created using the same tools as the game but yes it would have been rendered at a non-realtime framerate so I wouldn't put this as any expectation on the games actual visuals. It was still made in unreal engine, they would have just used the offline render queue which has far higher settings than realtime would allow, but it's not fair to call it random cgi, they can still use assets they'll be using in the game etc.
