Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Regardless of the state of Barlog's next game, it's crazy that his last game came out 8 years ago and we haven't even gotten an announcement of his next project yet.
Look at Ken Levine. Last released a game in 2013. Went back to the drawing board for 10 years making some AI shit only to scrap that project only to return with a non-Bioshock bioshock game. Kojima just took 6 years and made DLC. Neil has been MIA since 2020. Has no idea how to end TLOU and clearly has no idea where to take this Intergallactic game. Remember he said he would show the game soon after the reveal in december 2024. its been 14 months. Soon?

These guys are all products of American corporate culture. They got promoted by sucking up to their bosses and got lucky with a few games. Are we really expecting corporate america to produce visionaries? Remember Cory left SSM after shipping GOW2 and wasted a good 6 years following George Miller around trying to write a Mad Max video game script he abandoned then crawled back to SSM to reboot GOW. Neil we know cant write for shit after Bruce left him on his own. I have never been so disengaged with a game's story and characters as i was with TLOU2. He got lucky that he was handed the best studio in the world and made some great games, but i think it's time to recognize that anyone who takes this long to make games is not really that talented.

Since 2017, Nolan has made Dunkirk, Tenet, Oppenheimer and is releasing Odyssey this summer. His films have won oscars, make billions, and are doing things no other filmmaker is doing. That's a true visionary. Similarly, Villenvue has made Arrival, Blade Runner, Dune 1 and Dune 2 in the last ten years and is set to release Dune 3 this year. Thats 5 movies in a span of 10 years. Good creatives dont sit around jerking off. They work.

Honestly despite not being impressed with the reveal, the actual gameplay segments in this new trailer are giving me DriveClub vibes. The sense of speed is phenomenal and the game looks way better during gameplay than it does during cutscenes and those flyover shots.



Lots of neat visual effects, color grading gives it a very realistic look in some levels, and feels a lot less sterile than Forza Horizon 6.

You can almost pinpoint the exact moment when a lot of these mega studios got complacent and lost the plot. One of my favorite studios these days is Bloober. Bloober is hungry, man. Starving. Started out basically making shovelware, pivoted to artist-driven horror games and started cranking them out. In the last ten years: Layers of Fear, Observer, Layers 2, Blair Witch, The Medium, SH2, and Cronos. With at least two more currently in development. Yeah they were making walking sims at first but at least they were gorgeous and helped them build up a fantastic art pipeline while slowly expanding and getting more ambitious with gameplay. Observer had more going on than Layers, The Medium had more meat on its bones than Observer, etc. Almost all their games are at least good for what they are, and they eventually got to SH2 which is one of this gen's showpieces. Apparently they're only at 250 devs NOW and that's after slowly expanding over the years.

If I was a talented dev looking for work I'd want to be somewhere I could get games made and shipped at a steady pace instead of one or two a decade. I'm sure it does wonders for morale let alone keeping production pipelines humming along etc. If only AAA could stop betting the house on every single release.

Base consoles can certainly run GTA6 at 60fps, but they'll need to drop down to sega genesis resolution to make it happen.

Agreed, and it did remind me a bit more of Split/Second or maybe Burnout with the takedown cams.

007's character models look rough. The hair, the shader, colors, almost everything seems off.
The good thing is that it says it's captured on PS5, so the Pro will look better, PC even more.

I am just baffled by Sony this gen. Baffled. Cross gen games. Remakes. Then next gen sequels that feel more cross gen than actual cross gen games. Sequels that feel more DLCs than actual DLCs. And now this garbage. How can you have an hour plus show and produce this garbage. How can you end on a 2d game. Have you no self respect? No shame? You are charging $550 and $750 for these consoles. And you end with a logo reveal and a 2D game? 2D?

I dont know why i always tell people to be cautious with their expectations and fall for it myself every time before a show. Maybe i am retarded myself. But i did not expect this long ass show to not have anything from their big studios. Sony is done. Good luck to anyone hoping they will make next gen looking games even next gen. If they do make anything that is.

They were the top dog since 2005, all GOW games were pushing the consoles heavily, all their games are in top 5 graphics for PS2/PS3/PS4.

This stopped being the case with PS5, so far they have no "PS5 only" project.

There were some truly hungry devs show at this event. Number one being EmberLabs with Kena 2. Blew me away. And Remedy wants to be taken seriously, Housemarque wants the PS Studio crown, and Konami acting like they Capcom all of a sudden.

Nothing incredible that ripped my jaw off tho.

with the looming shadow of GTAVI over the entire industry, Barlog's game has now clearly become a next-gen title.

They don't need any more new titles until the end of this gen. GTA VI will guarantee more sales until the end of the gen.
it would be unwise to compete with GTAVI in the same year or even the next [ especially given how much emphasis Sony tends to put on high metas and winning awards]

Ryan and Hulst messed up big time this gen; so far, the sales have all been driven by the brilliance and the success of PS4 not the management ( but the shareholders will idiotically attribute this success to Ryan and Hulst's performance )
Sony are now keeping their fingers crossed and hoping for a new chance with next gen
They're strengthening their next-gen line-up with Physint, Barlog's game, whatever Bend is up to,
and the GOW remake (motivated only by the TV series launching around the same time) and probably another Astro Bot

I also really liked the look of the new Silent Hill game. not necessarily better than SH2 Remake but still managed to have my attention with its art style

They are treating it as a big game.

They even had a 30 minute deep dive after the SoP.

The cool thing was that they showed off the real life locales then cut to the game, and game nails the aesthetic it's going for 100%.

Cant imagine the PC version looking much better. The art style isnt doing this game any favors. Just too dark and drab for fancy looking graphics.


I love everything about Remedy and I'm sure I'll love Control 2 too. But this looks the same or even worse because of the art style and probably bigger locations than Control. Let alone AW2 that looked miles better, but I can see why since it was a survival horror with really tiny locations and slow gameplay.

Gameplay looks fun tho, i thought the switch from ranged to melee was a mistake but maybe they can pull this off.

To me Remedy is about the only western studios that know how to make responsive and fun gameplay no matter what, so I'm sure this will be ton of fun. I'd have liked more if was not melee centered, but seems really good from these gameplay so let's see.

I think control is the only one where i liked their gameplay (but hardly best in class) if we dont consider the old max paynes.

Reliable insiders on Resetera say Barlog's game is slated for release in 2027. Guess we'll just have to wait to see who's right - people with long track records of insider knowledge, or a bunch of hysterics on here.

Agreed, I think the low budget is really biting them in the ass here when the scale of the game has increased. You can see low res textures and others stuff that needs more love visually. I'll still buy it because I love remedy but yeah a shame after AW2 looking so good.
