Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition |OT| Shoot them with your guns (Again!)

Got this today and ended up playing it for most of the day. I played XC3 years ago but never finished it.

It's so overwhelming at first, there are just so many systems. The funny part is that the game keeps throwing tutorials at me for things I already figured out on my own. A nice little pat on the back, I guess.

But honestly, I'm loving everything Ive played so far. It's kind of magical that this even runs on my Switch Lite

Oh, and one of the most astounding moments was when I zoomed out and realized there's way more to the map than that initial section. The scale is pretty insane

The OST is the best in the franchise too

I wanted to like this at its original release, but the worst thing a game can do to me is bombard me with a whole city and a barrage of tutorials within the first hour. I need to learn games in steps, not leaps. I'm sure it's a great game, but that first impact was too much for me.

The only city in the game lol
Yes, this game still suffers from the Monolith Soft tutorial problem. They just recently fixed the problem in Xenoblade 3.

I tried with this remaster and felt the same as the first time. Couldn't get into it. Don't like the characters or the battle system. Thankfully its not story connected to 1-3.

Xenoblade 1 - Good
Xenoblade 2 - OK
Xenoblade 3 - Garbage

I hope this one is better again, when does Switch 2 Version comes out?!

There is a lot to learn yeah, but it is by far the most interesting open-world game I have played.

I'm bumping up this thread to seek advice / rant.

I've put nearly 100 hours into this game and have reached what seems to be the final boss of the main story, Luxaar's skell in the core. I'm level 50 and so is he.

I have absolutely loved my time with Xenoblade Chronicles X except for the fact that levelling up is too fucking slow in a game where levels matter. I know you can make levels irrelevant with the right builds and equipments and what not but I have no desire nor patience at all to learn the deep intricacies of the battle system to min-max my Skells and one-shot enemies. My Skells are all level 30, I don't even know how to make the level 50 weapons and gear available.

This situation is really frustrating because:

1) I can't activate the "lower the boss' level after 3 losses" option here.
2) If I lose my Skell during the fight, it's over. I can't even use my character's arts for some reasons. 0 chance of winning when Skells are destroyed.
3) The boss has an invicibility phase and more and more drones that pop up.
4) I'd feel really bad about dropping the game here, especially since I love the whole Xenoblade franchise, the lore drops at this point are mouth-watering, and there is still the post-game new content to discover.
5) Grinding is hardly an option because it's too damn slow.
6) This game sucks at teaching you its mechanics beyond the basics. And battles are designed as if the devs are saying "you are going to play on OUR terms and we will NOT allow you to skip the ins and outs of the battle system with grinding". I've beaten games like Fromsoftware's catalogue and Kingdom Hearts on critical mode so I'm no stranger to difficulty, but I don't want to take a battle mechanics course to complete the remaining 10% of the game.
7) My Switch backlog has been growing over the last few months and I want to move on to other games already. I feel like Xenoblade X has taken me hostage.

Can some based player help me out here? How to beat this guy without spending an eternity?

Hi, Glad you've been loving the game, I love it too. Maybe I can help a bit.

If you're level 60 you should be much stronger on foot than in your level 30 skel. If arts aren't working that's very perculiar, maybe you're out of range? This is a boss that can be fought on foot from memory. Might have been a glitch one time or something

From memory the invincibility is caused by the satellis drones, so as you kill them the boss will no longer be invincible so change targets and kill those before going back to the boss.

I know it sounds counter intuitive, but if you do engage with learning the systems and making a build you will actually level up extremely fast because you'll be quickly/easily killing bosses above your level. It might seem like a bad time investment at first but it will rocket you past someone determined not to understand the mechanics in this admittedly complicated, poorly explained system. I agree that you shouldn't "grind" by just looking for easy enemies around your level and killing them, that would be very slow in comparison, definitely don't do that

The game doesn't successfully teach you its deep mechanics but there are plenty of youtube videos that explore them. Since you don't want to do a ton of equipment farming and building, I say just do the one and look up how to make an "ether blossom dance" build. This is the most powerful most simple way to trivialize almost all difficult encounters, and will see you through story, post game, or sideboss content with a few exceptions. It's so powerful that you could half ass the build, cut some corners and still have reasonable success, and you might have so much fun playing around with it that things start to click and you suddenly want to muck around with building op skels and such. I gave a long detailed text version of how to do the build on the previous page in this thread but you might find it simpler/faster to just look up a youtube guide.

hey you know what else?

I was thinking "this guy doesn't wanna learn all this stuff, he just wants to get over the hump of this boss"

I still think you should make the build cause its awesome and fun but a cheaper, faster way to get a power difference that might get you past this boss is just to get lots of "appendage crusher" augments for your weapons.

Appendage crusher is one of the cheaper weapon augments to craft, and makes a significant power difference when stacked together. Like crazy significant. It's a really good cost benefit analysis. So put 5 or maybe even just 3 appendage crushers on your weapon and you will see a big difference. Just make sure you target appendages, and when the appendage breaks or you change targets to satellis drone then go back to the boss after, change to another appendage because you get no benefit when targeting the main body.

Hope that helps.

Touch fuzZy. get BizZay Touch fuzZy. get BizZay Thanks for taking the time to write these replies, man.

My party is at level 50, not 60. After a bit of googling I figured out how to make the level 50 Skells available in the shop, I bought one but man they're really expensive. Do you think a party of level 50 Skells can make a difference? FYI I manage to reach the second phase of Vita and get it to around 50% HP before it does the invicibility + HP regen thing.

I started watching a guide for the ether blossom guide, and... it talks about equipping level 55 gear, so... not happening anytime soon. I have the Duelist class maxed out, but not Full Metal Jaguar (haven't unlocked it yet). I didn't know you could combine classes.

I'll see if I can make the appendage crusher augments. But I'd only benefit from them if I fight on foot, right?

Oh, and Gantz rocks!

No probs

Lev 50 mech could make a huge difference but you would need to craft augments to make it super powerful which would take time. Even with fairly basic gear it will be much more sturdy than the lev 30 mechs that get destroyed too easily for you in the fight so just lasting longer could turn it around

As for blossom dance it is so powerful that its still helpful when half-assed as long as you get the basics so dont worry about l55 gear. No matter what it is gonna take time to do the build though because you do need full metal jaguar to get ghost walker skill. It will still be the easiest and maybe fastest way to sort this and other challenges out though as you will win difficult encounters extremely quickly once it starts to get up and running.

Yes and no on the augments. They will only help on foot, yeah, but just like your character you can craft super powerful augments for your skel, and the skel has its own version of appendage crusher called "CRUSH.APPEND." It does use different materials to craft so you could make some for your mech and some for on foot after it gets exploded.

I'm considering holding off on finishing this game until I get Switch 2.

The idea of playing this in 4k 60 HDR is just too good to pass up...

It's absolutely coming. Don't forget, a 60fps mode was already found in the code and Nintendo has already announced several Switch 1 games will be getting FREE Switch 2 upgrades. Oh, it's definitely coming.

My patience has finally been rewarded.

I hadn't even started playing it since I was waiting for the inevitable 60fps patch... but they're selling it?! When the 60fps executable was already in the files? Sigh...

~edit: ok at least it's dirt cheap

It's an entirely new game with this upgrade.

60 FPS makes the gameplay so much better. Visuals look great for what it is. This series was way ahead of its time.

The loading times seem to be significantly better, as well.

After beating Dragon Quest VII, this is my next game, for sure.

It is night and day. Incredible what 60fps can do for a game honestly.

How did this take so long to get updated. Ridiculous. At least Switch2 is physical.

Hate this in modern day gaming, seriously.
I could be wrong, but I think some devs didn't get a Switch 2 dev unit for quite a while after launch?

They also need to run it through Quality Assurance testing. This game is massive.

Huge corporation, so I'd imagine there's a lot of inefficiencies going on. You'd be surprised how much time and money it costs to simply update simple things on a website.

Oh, I didn't know.

Are they 1st party or 2nd party? I'd imagine there's still a difference in operations, if they're 2nd party.
They are 2nd party, I remember the meltdowns people has when Nintendo took them in back in 2007. Monolith Soft was a huge get for Nintendo. I'm glad they have them under their belt to support with game development as well as creating their own projects.

Why leave out XB1?
I see a lot of people pretending it doesn't exist. And here I am thinking Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and X are my favourites. X being my absolute favourite. I liked 2 a lot as well, and 3 was kind of meh to be honest. There's just something special about XBC1 and XCBX

Nintendo acquired full control of Monolith Soft by December 2024

I was considering picking up Ys X Proud Nordics tomorrow, but I'll be spending time with this for the rest of the month and probably dabble with it throughout the year.

I know this game is crazy long.

Monolith Soft was the best purchase ever by Nintendo. They helped a lot for Nintendo: helping made BOTW, making assets for Animal Crossing and Splatoon.
Because like original Xenoblade a lot but Xenoblade 2&3 are my favourite.
But Xenoblade 1 is also available on Switch. Why not the whole series lol

This game has so many concurrent systems and complicated menus and fucking mechanics that after 40 hours in my last game, I just decided to start over here.

Game looks fantastic, I've been taking my time and I feel like I have a better grasp of a few things anyway. I'm glad I started over.

Plus, I did a better job making my main character... I went female this time and she looks fucking cool.

XC1 DE was also a bad port visually, 2nd only to XC2 in blurriness. So it badly needs the visual upgrade

This is one where a bit of research on youtube really pays off. These are great systems when understood but there are so many systems and they can be complicated and overwhelming so the guides really open things up.

I really hate using the internet unless i have to... there's a lot of information in the system menu... but I did have to look up how to start a melee combo,

I had a ranged ability that said it does more damage when it triggers a melee combo, but you actually have to start it with an actual melee move, the second move triggers it (and the ranged ends it)... but there's no indication that I can see when it happens

this was the closest i could find in game

They're also doesn't seem to be a slam mechanic... but there's launch... I'm trying to avoid Google on that one, but I may be headed down that road.
