Marathon |OT| A Shell of its Former Self.

You won't be saying that once you here my dulcet northern English voice shouting cunt and fuck every 20 seconds.
I'm sure you have nothing on all the mfers I've had to mute playing Battlefield recently.

I'm more worried about trying to process all the pings and nonverbal comms while still figuring this game out and trying to stay alive. I'll inevitably get distracted and end up mindlessly looting while my team is dying in the next building over.

Dualsense user on PC you fucking psycho. I can't deal with the battery life. Strictly PS gaming with that pad for me.
Dunno about anyone else but the only time I use my Dualsense is for games that support its features on PC, which means wired connection. So at least I don't have to worry about the battery life.

It's not our first rodeo, lol.

Hell, it's happened to so many titles I enjoyed, if it happens again I'll survive, lol. Shadowrun, Nosgoth, and Rumbleverse to name a few. It's surely going to happen again, unfortunately. But it's never THAT big of a deal, chalk it up as a shame, and move on.

I still need to properly play Deadlock. I've just been waiting for it to officially launch before jumping in.

I'm just really eager to see Marathon do its thing and hopefully sustain, but we'll see!
Yeah the amount of games I've completely rinsed but have also gone tits up are... many lol. The Cycle, VtM: Bloodhunt, Battleborn, Shatterline, Day of Infamy, Reflex, Diabotical Rogue, New World Aeternum, etc just to name a few.

Put in hundreds of hours into some of those. 🥹

Basically he doesn't like it because it's not pve focused.

He criticized the level design. IMO it has a labyrinth level design to encourage flanking and synergize with the low TTK.

He does say that Halo and Destiny had a little bit for everyone, but marathon is much more of a pvp game. Which is true.

I think this game is such a hardcore pvp game, that if you don't love that style of game, it won't appeal to you.

Not watched it yet but the levels are one of the games strong points. Dire Marsh is amazing.

Reminder that the OT is a place for discussing the game itself and not a place for doom and gloom, bashing sales numbers or CCU counts, or drive by shitposting comparing this to Concord or Highguard. Criticism of the game itself is of course allowed, but we'll be watching OT threads like this to make sure that criticism isn't generalized or made by people who obviously aren't actually playing the game.

For example:
Valid criticism: "The loot drop rates are too low for shotgun type weapons"
Gonna-get-you-thread-banned: "lol imagine liking this game. Concord 2 am I right guys?"

If you're just here to talk shit and detract from the people actually playing / enjoying the game, do us all a favor and just move on. If you see someone being an ass and derailing the thread, please report them.
The OT tag line would suggest otherwise, tbh.

OTs should remain as prestigious and highbrow as possible. A refuge from the unwashed masses. A shelter from the shitposting and shitty posting alike. Let's all strive to be our best selves. I know we can do it.

Anticipating a rapid shutdown is simply ignorant at this point. The game appears to be selling well. And Sony/Bungie are still keeping Destiny 1 going, ffs.

Seasonal plans got me super fucking hyped
Yeah they way they have constructed the game makes it fairly easily to mix things up without too much work. Seems like seaon 1 will be pretty busy.

Also no need to nerf most stuff, just take it out of circulation. Then the really OP stuff just becomes super valuable that season.

Im not a multiplayer guy any longer with my hands being shot but I gave ARC Raiders a try and I was hooked! I played the server slam for Marathon, but not a lot, just enough to check it out. Im going to buy it. I think it will be a good time just learning the systems in the game. I may not win a lot of gun fights, but that didn't stop me from 1800 hours in Tarkov. I prefer to play solo, but wouldn't mind trying to team up with some GAF members if we get a group going. Looks like good times ahead chaps!

Yeah, unless there's a Telesto level game breaking weapon, they can just wait til the next season.

Finished the Skill Up video.

He called out no boss enemies that encountered. Tells me he didn't do any of the high value target or Lockdown Events. He calls out no crafting - Bungie announced it in the roadmap. He calls out no social space - not needed for a game like this. He calls out no location specific loot - there is.

It honestly reads like someone who didn't explore, wanted the game to point everything out, and didn't have any curiosity.

It honestly might be as bad as Jared Pettys ARC Raiders preview.

Didn't quite agree with this one. The visual language and setting itself had already set it apart from other extraction shooters. I'm curious to try out build crafting, didn't bother with that during the server slam, mostly just tried to immerse myself and get a feel for the moment to moment gameplay. I don't think Arc has that.

But I sort of agree with his take on maps being distinct. Dire Marsh and Perimeter looks like they could be two areas side by side on a bigger map, but both maps have their own standout landmarks and Cryo Archive is indoor only (?) so its not really an issue for me. Arc seems to be more visually unique in terms of map presentation, one is in a desert, one is on a mountain, etc2.

Isn't that what we're debating 🙄
Buy it and get your money's worth out it or wait and see. You can wait until you're happy/confident. don't need to buy it at launch.

I think chances of it getting shut down are very low and even if it's not a huge success there will likely still be a healthy player base.
