Marathon |OT| A Shell of its Former Self.

Still in the top 5 sellers on Steam. I hope thats a good sign. Don't wanna blow money on a dead game.
Ubisoft is running a 90% off sale right now, and the new Rainbow 6 season started today, so don't be surprised when you see it slip. Doesn't mean anything bad. Just that people have a lot of really cheap, really good games to buy right now.

Over or under the avg player count will be down to 10,000 a day in 3 months?
CCU thread is here

clarky clarky Nice OT dude.

I'm intrigued how Bungie will play their cards with Marathon's reception in the upcoming days. The game has potential but, at the same time, it has some a bad reputation overall due to Bungie's own missteps. The server slam helped the change in perception a little, and I hope the full game can stand on its own to turn things over.

If anything, hate it or love it, Marathon will be a fun release to keep an eye on.

I think the best solution to that is heads down, and build up the best game and community they can. If the game is good - which it is - and the community is active and not toxic. And Bungie actually communicates and keeps their word on delivering things they promise, then the game will grow.

Game side, they've mostly nailed it. Community management side - they're off to a good start, but ask any D2 fan, and they'll tell you how much Bungie drops the ball there. Hopefully they have a good team set up for this.

its 40$ for fucks sake thats a 2 people meal at mcdonalds
Which is so wild to comprehend, lmao. The pricing of a lot of games feels very modest when you compare it to the pricing of eating out. I feel like anytime my GF and I go out it's always at least $30-ish total. Don't do it too often cause man does that shit add up, lol.

Purchasing Marathon feels like a no brainer to me if you're interested and/or curious.

I get that times is tough, but agonizing over $40 is ridiculous. This is an enthusiast gaming forum. Fifteen years ago every game was $60. Converted to 2010 dollars, Marathon costs less than half that. I wipe my ass with $40. If anyone's on the fence lmk and I'll literally gift you a copy. Maybe.

Yea it's crazy what going out to eat has become. I told my wife I'm not spending a dime on it anymore. She spends her own money to get us food but I told her I don't care I can just eat at home. I'd rather use all my money for games.

I'll be paying attention to this thread to see how much they tune the solo experience and fix some QOL items, such as AI dropping ammo.

Preloaded done…not sure I'm going to go all in the game but I'm giving it a chance.
Honestly if youve not played before or even played just a bit last weekend give the game a fair crack. Like I said in the slam thread the game does a terrible job of explaining everything but it really does click after a while, if its your kind of thing. I went in indifferent first time i played and ended up loving it.

That said I can fully understand why someone wouldn't like it, its certainly not for everyone.

If you have any questions then just let us know. Enjoy, or don't lol.

I don't think they'll change much for solos, its been largely the same experience for the last six months.

Definitely needs some general QOL adjustment though for sure.

More backpack space across the board, ammo economy in game like you say and some things should stack higher than 3 like health and shields.

I think if they fix the items mentioned in the last line of your post, that would help out the solo experience a lot.

Boss or higher lvl enemies should at the very least drop an ammo crate solo or otherwise. I realise its not a BR and you need to pick engagements but burning though 90% or your ammo on a few mobs is fucking stupid.

At least make it more plentiful in perimeter as people figure things out.

I think solo will need to be tuned and balanced over time - hopefully throughout season 1. The game has been balanced for trios, and solo was a very late addition, so it makes sense that it's not quite there yet. I hope they do though, because it could be a very fun way to enjoy the game.

Curious to hear what everyone's playtime split was in the Server Slam...

Rook runs, solos, and squads. Where did everyone spend most of their time?

Personally 95% of my time went towards squads with maybe the last 5% split between rook runs and solo runs.

I did 80% randoms 15% Rook 5% solo.

The Rook and solo runs were intense as shit once I found some good loot. One Rook run I found a ledger that was 4k creds and a kitted combat shotgun off a corpse and managed to exfil within 4 minutes, my heart rate had to have been 130+

Mine was probably 50% in squads, 40% various solo runs with non-Rook shells, then the last 10% with Rook.

Half my squad runs were with randoms.

Most of mine were playing in a team of 2 with crew fill turned off.

Played a few solo runs, but at that point I wasn't doing any more contracts, so most of those were as Rook. I like Rook a lot.

Probably 1/3 solo and 2/3 in teams but I only played about 10 hours total. Very different experiences. All my squad play was with friends, didn't play with randoms at all. I'll be angling to mostly play in teams to start, solo if I can't find one. Didn't play any Rook yet.

Solo could probably use some tweaks but I hope Bungie doesn't jump the gun and implement too many changes based on early feedback. Solo can be tough but there's plenty of advantages too. One mind is easier to coordinate than three. Play at your own pace. Stop and listen and observe whenever you want. No worrying about trying to hear enemy sounds over your teammates. Also much easier to avoid and play around UESC patrols as a solo player. It's just a different vibe and mentality.

People said solo ARC Raiders was really hard too but that calmed down within a few weeks of launch.

Yeah Arc seemed super difficult at first, now most things are a cake walk. I don't expect thing to get that easy but things will certainly get easier as everyone figures things out. In true Bungie style I'm sure most things are cheesable in some fashion, for those that way inclined.

Hope we get stuff like expert tier maps as limited timed events say over a weekend to really spice things up.

99% solo, 1 or 2 rook runs

Daily reminder. There a few of us listed in the second post for team ups, if anyone wants added just shoot me your Bungie ID.

I'll be solo tomorrow as I spend some time getting to know everything, but will be on all day Friday and beyond, if anyone fancies carrying an old cunt.

90% with a pal or randoms in squads.

10% Rook. Great mode if you just want to grab some stuff, miles more profitable than loading in with a free kit.

Thought I'd mostly play solo but squads was an absolute blast. May change as time goes on.

I went all Squads. Just found it more fun to run with other people.

I'm looking forward to playing in teams as much as possible to start, when everyone's still learning the game and leveling up and the population is at its peak. I had fun playing solo in the slam but it didn't compare to team play (with friends, not with randoms). Especially with a couple buddies who were Halo 3 fiends back in the day. Their old muscle memory came back. We had some great fights.

I think solos will become more rewarding later on once we all really learn the game.

80% trios as Triage.
20% solo as Destroyer and Assassin.

All solo because I have no friends.
