Marathon |OT| A Shell of its Former Self.

Here's a random question, so what is permanent or how does gear work in terms of like arc raiders you get blue prints so mainly you gotta farm mats to make another gun of that particular kind. So how's end game gear work for what's kept or is it just what you get is all lost if you lose it?
As you level up factions you can buy better gear from them and you and find schemas (blueprints) out in the wild that unlock stuff for purchase from vendors.

Your starting point gets raised the more you play basically.

I see that's cool at least. They doing any kind of reset they say? What they call it a journey or something?

Full reset every season. This is a good thing imo.

Allows them to do decent meaningful changes and balance patches and allows new people a decent jumping on point.

Plus we can all go nuts at the end of a season, the best part of it.

Think of it like a new ARPG league. Out with the old and in with the new.

I've always been indifferent on resets tho, it's why for me destiny landed and other similar games I don't like full on resets. Never loved them in Diablo either.

One thing for me is I don't ever truly just dismiss games, so I always sorta try to gather more info to maybe try them again, if guys I know play it I may try it again but I'll have to see.

I do think crimson desert is going to be a big problem tho as once that lands I'll be so glued so even if I did get marathon going that may put a dent but we will see.

Destiny already had soft resets of sorts. Would have been better if they cut the cord with gear. Shit was a mess at points.

When i first start playing POE i couldn't get my head around abandoning my toons but i soon figured out its about the journey not the destination, as long as the journey is fun and fresh.

I just watched that last 7 minute trailer on mute with No Easy Way Out playing in the background.

Are we going to have to fight our own teammates Double Dragon style? What was that ending?

Yea definitely and yea they were semi resets in destiny but I liked sorta the years worth of building gear and characters, but I'll be curious how marathon pans out.. I personally feel I most likely won't play it but never know, I am one that wants as much gaming in my repitore so I don't lightly just pass on games.

Almost go time for you guys!

I still have my Not Forgotten V1 in my vault along with a few other memories. Happy days.

That man lunas and NF were my two most proud D2 moments, I did them solo... Almost lost my sanity haha but it was incredible. I miss those days of big time rewards like that in pvp, so fun.

Same mate the fucking struggle was insane. No lone wolf playlist in those days either.

D2 lost me when they all but abandoned the PVP. Loved the pinnacle grind.

That's actually why I eventually bailed and I won't go on much more about destiny here man don't want to hijack it or anything but the way bungie slowly weened off true pvp by making things so much easier, and then dumbing down rewards because they didn't want it to be unbalanced in which that touch of chaos is what made it so much fun... When they made it all so much easier and stopped giving us high caliber type rewards pvp just went down hill.

I would've played that game forever it hit all the right cylinders, that pvp was just so fun so when they abandoned it that did me in.

But maybe marathon will evolve a bit more as time goes on and call to me more, I do love their gunplay. But yea gonna be curious how the game does

Thats why I like this game its almost trials on steroids.

Big stakes, big rewards. Wiping another team 1v3 when your pals are down and out. Same shit dialed upto 27.

I'm ready to sweat.

Regular folks will catch on they just don't like admitting they backed the wrong horse.
Honestly we need that to happen to hopefully kill the whole "obsessing over failure" fad. I just want things to go back to the way they were before all this dumb ragebait fapping nonsense, lol.

I was going to share a sick clip I saw of Rook earlier today, but now I can't find it. It was a Rook spawning in, laying low, spotting a team of 3, and slowing following them. They waited for them to fight AI, and then went in for the kill knifing 2, and shooting the last one. It was so satisfying to watch, lol.

Currently top of the Top Sellers. This is cool to see. This game doesn't need to be "THE BEST GAME EVER", but this definitely has been looking more and more like it WILL find its legs and it WILL be sustainable. These kind of games will come and go, but every once and awhile one will come along and stick around. I figured (and hoped) this would be a new one that would. Same with Hunger, but we'll see.

A lot of people complaining didn't play the server slams or betas or at least a fair shake. There is a much deeper sense of configuration than most have observed. Having played 1000s of hours of Destiny/2 seeing what Bungie did with Marathon after playing the first alpha last April, I could tell there was something there as a mix of Destiny gameplay and something new. Which was exactly what Marathon needs to be, the Destiny loop in current form is stale and they need to move to a different fresh model. I tried to convey that then on GAF but everyone was so anti-Marathon it grew pointless to discuss until more recently and more got in and played it. But that's the thing what the server slam/alphas were just small snippets of what this game will be. The depth and support will be there, it will just take some time to catch on.

Colorado but I'm not border hopping lol.😂
Shit you're closer than me. You can shave off at least half your dental costs by just going to one of the many dental places right across the boarder to get the work done. There's basically towns built on that lol.

On Topic: I'll be playing Marathon as soon as I get off work tomorrow night. Most of my weekend will be playing it too.

I'm very interested to see more Lore in this universe. Like I saw the Artifact in Shroud's YouTube but in non release game it didn't do anything.

Went to the dentist today. $2500 in upcoming expenses and that's before the root canal so that will add more.

Goodbye any savings I had left. Hello suicide prevention hotline.

JK. Marathon in 24 hours is all the suicide prevention a real man needs.
At those prices you're almost better off becoming a medical tourist. Goddamn.

I'm not sure how I feel about resets yet. Most of the time I'm against them. With that said 3 months is a long time and I'm not even sure I'll still be playing the game that hardcore after that long. Will see how it goes.

Resets will keep you into the game if the genre gets its hooks into you. Late wipe loses any sense of risk since everybody has finished their quests and is stacked with gear. Wipes help maintain tension by keeping people struggling while allowing for a cathartic release at the end.

Saw it #1 on steam sellers for Canada region and it's also high on global list. Seems like it should be doing fine. Honestly looks cool to watch and I've said so since the beginning but I just do not have time for multiplayer shooters.

Tomorrow I expect 100k, and by the time the dust settles it'll be a 20k concurrent.

I don't know, predicting how the whole influencer / twitch can react to the game and suddenly make it very successful or flop terrible fast is too hard and nonsensical to guess how it can go. It can be very artificial too, influencers are basically billboards.

Personally I don't play these games anyway but always liked how this was looking and seeing some peoples discuss the game and footage in this thread I think if I was younger and had more time, I would have spent an enormous amount of time playing it.

None of that in here please.
In good faith though. It'll be unavoidable tonight. Everyone is a little curious to see how it gets on.

It does seem to have sold fairly well this week. I think it'll be absolutely fine. The doomers will find a negative spin which ever way it lands.

In other news we made it. Going shopping for gaming food and wine. Tonight we feast.

I get it but it would be nice to keep it out of here. But it is your house good sir.

Nah I'm not the thread police, nor am I qualified.

You should see the state of my own house, chaos. The CCU is abysmal its down 25% just this week. If Ignore the wife for much longer it'll be down 50% and only the dogs will remain.

Is there a reason that gaming companies call P2W "Pay for Power"? I notice Blizzard does that too.
Pay to win doesn't necessarily mean you'll actually win unless you are buying something like kills. Pay for power just means its giving you an advantage. I think.

Yeah that makes sense. Colloquially they both mean the same thing in my head, but technically there is a nuanced difference in the specific wording.

(in black obvs) I know Razer are overpriced but I have never had any issues with their laptops and my current controller is godly. Reviewed well.
Maybe try some IEMs, they are a bit emerging in gaming, some people compare them to wallhacks due to how precise you can locate steps, also getting some attention in esports, looks kinda strange to have them under a regular headset.
Gonna try some of mine with Marathon, despite being quite bad at PvP, the only game where i cared about that was Destiny 2, still had fun though.

I prefer a regular headset tbh. In ears are decent for regular music but i find them uncomfortable for long sessions. Cheers tho.
