Monitoring the situation in Iran

That same Twitter post mentions they purposely chose an Azeri (Khamenei) to install as Ayatollah because the Islamic Republic so greatly feared an Azeri uprising

Now Khamenei is gone and there's nothing stopping that from happening since the Islamic Republic is about to fall and the decades-old Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict is finally over
Iran shit it's pants during the liberation of Nagorno Karabakh because Iranian Azeris were cheering for their cousins across the border. The government conducted some minor crackdowns to lower the hype. Iran isn't like the DPRK; Iranian Azeris travel around the Caucasus and people from abroad are allowed to visit. Ethnic Azeris aren't immune to Erdogan's pan-turkic messaging. I wouldn't go so far as to suggest that they have separatist ambitions like Kurds since most of them are pretty content. I don't see Iranian Azeris getting amped up to kill other Turks either. It's probably the best place to open a front against the regime.

From all accounts the airbases within Iranian range have been drawn down significantly with personnel reassigned elsewhere over last few weeks but good job regardless by the Qataris. Bonus points for not shooting down three US f15s like that retard Kuwaiti pilot.

An organization that has been fighting against religious extremism in the United States military for two decades has reported more than 200 new complaints since Saturday's initial strikes against Iran, with members across all services claiming that high-ranking officers are tying the mission overseas to fulfilling a Christian prophecy.
A combat-unit commander told non-commissioned officers at a briefing Monday that the Iran war is part of God's plan and that President Donald Trump was "anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth,"

Tell me its fake news ffs. I can't imagine someone in a position of planning, decision making for companies/battalions would even think this shit in modern times.

Most people in the military wouldn't do that, but there are some fringe religious types in this administration. I can believe something similar happened.

Being able to sip a mojito and smoke a cohiba in Havana and then fly to Tehran and see the plethora of historical sites there was not something I ever thought possible, but might be a reality in just a few years!
Yeah I was also thinking about the amazing history to see in Iran. The tourism industry alone would be worth a significant GDP.

Didn't the same happen during the Soviet Revolution? I assumed the phrase "useful idiots" came from using such people to push causes before purging them.

In 1917 it was more the massive strikes and factory workers.
That and, of course, around 180.000 disgruntled soldiers when the Tsar gave the order to "suppress" the rebellion. No wonder why Putin never send Moscow soldiers to the frontline in Ukraine.

But you have a point, that's the communist modus operandi in other countries since the cold war and why every university in these other countries is dominated by left-wing ideals.

I just don't understand what possesses any country to import third world savages. They're all incompatible with first world culture and populations.
Probably has to do with needing votes. You'll always get votes pandering to the needy with free stuff.

Also, the typical western country needs to keep up their friendly face PR they are a great free country who arent snobs. So anyone come on in!

They put a lot of effort making sure they are likeable. Sometimes (no different than being at work or at home) you got to put the foot down and say forget it. But they cant or else it looks bad.

It could be from this..

That can't be it - the US has a great history of supporting terrible regimes and toppling governments worldwide so it's not like they suddenly got beef over an embassy. My money is still on Israel as the Promised Land that cannot be allowed to fall or it will start the End Days.
You should probably try educating yourself before commenting on things you admit you don't understand.
If there is a nation that is completely oblivious to worlds affairs it's the US, given your population has difficulty even naming other countries on the map.

I don't think they're trying to prevent the end days...

These religious zealots are ridiculous if they actually believe this nonsense, and it's a shame they have this much power and influence. What they're saying isn't even Biblically justified. It's fanfiction.

I kind of agree with the guy above that asked why we're in this. I'm old enough to have been through all of it for the most part. I'm pretty tired at this point of all the intervening in the middle east. What has it gotten us? Nothing but hate and debt. All while I have to fight the millions of people coming in every year on visas for jobs. Can't even pass the ID requirement for voting even though it has like 80% to 90% support. Can't even enforce not giving illegals trucking jobs, lol. There is so much corruption and fraud going on and no one seems to want to enforce it.

My point is, we shouldn't be in anything like this with all of our debt and problems at home right now. The only thing we ever handled right there was Desert Storm where we got in and out, nobody hated us, and in fact we were cheered for helping Kuwait. Everything after that has been a disaster.

I don't care about Iran. I don't care about Israel. I don't care about any of those countries in the middle east. Do whatever they want, I don't care, they can police themselves. I'd just prefer to stay out of all of this as it's a no win situation.

The only reason we're in this is because of oil imho. Trump needed leverage over Chinese oil from Iran and Venezuela (after the rare earth issue) so I think this is the result.

Just going to be another one of these 5 to 10 year ordeals where either we solve something and it takes 10 years to get it in place (like Iraq) or we solve nothing and we devolve into this 10 year on/off again crap. Either way it's going to be dragging on for a decade probably.

Just decide we're no longer going to intervene, mark every country there as being on the no immigration list, and then just stay out of it.

A lot of what you enjoy is only possible because of the US hegemony, which is created by the US' military might and the use if that might when necessary.

That's true, which is why the unnecessary overuse of that might costs us trillions of dollars and too many deaths, as we've seen played out in recent history. That's what a lot of people have an issue with.

Nothing in my lifetime has been 'necessary' outside of Desert Storm. Everything else has been a mess. And we can be a dominant military power without getting involved in all of this crap. Nothing in my life has improved for the better because of this, in fact all of our involvement over the past 50 years in the middle east is what got us 9/11, and I think everyone can agree that air travel is worse now that it was in the 90's because of it. Our debt problem was largely driven by the middle east issues that snowballed into Afghanistan.

China has a dominant military yet never gets involved and they're doing ok.

Those guys who are literally going to invade Taiwan and have said they are going to do so,... the guys who constantly kill indian and other soldiers on their borders... the guys who essentially annexed all democracy from Hong Kong

That large military? The one supplying most of the electronics to the global stage when it comes to drones and drone warfare?

China and Russia are some of the largest players when it comes to global conflict, you just dont hear about the countless african and asian conflicts being funded and operated by them because its not "Merica"

This was broadcast on an Israeli news channel and retweeted by an IDF support account.

The flag in the background is Al Qaeda. He's saying they fully support Israel's attack on Iran.
Amazing.

Call me cynical but this is exactly what Azerbaijan needs to allow them to start a military action against Iran. They've already their military assembled near the border, so they're ready for a land grab.

Oh yeah, those drones attacked Nakhchivan Airport. That just happens to be the Azerbaijanian exclave that's separated from Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan has long wished to reconnect that exclave with the motherland and now seems to be the time to do this.

So the plan by the Ayatollahs seems to be "bring on Armageddon". If they weren't so incapable this would be genuinely dangerous.

TIL there are more Azeris living in Iran than in Azerbaijan. I get the impression they would like their people back
I worked in Azerbaijan for over ten years, that is definitely the case.

Looks like they have an excuse to do something this morning.

Looking more like WW3 every day this.
