Marathon |OT| A Shell of its Former Self.

May I refer your question to this thread sir.

(Yes you are 2 for 2 in providing me with OT titles recently).

Just snagged it on PS5 Pro. Let me ask this... coming from Arc Raiders, is it possible or even viable in this game to go in, loot and leave without doing PvP? Just curious the options you have here vs something like Arc. I know this is more PvP heavy but wondering if that is a viable playstyle here (get in, sneak around, loot, get out).

Absolutely. Every action is loud as fuck. Just go Assassin and go slow.

Although avoiding PVP is not viable in the long run. It's the best part of the game. You will die, a lot.

Yes. It's actually easier to avoid PvP if you know another player is nearby in most situations. For multiple reasons:

  • It's first person, so nobody will be camera camping locations with a wide view without exposing themselves in some way.
  • There are quite a few AI enemies around the maps and they are no joke. Engaging in PvP can possibly ago these enemies AND more players.
  • You have no safe pockets so if you die you lose everything. No "Well I got the item I needed safely in my pocket, time to attempt some PvP!"
  • The interiors have many ways in and out including vents and hidden paths. So you can have many options to take and avoid a confrontation.
This is at least for early game and the first two maps. Other maps may be more PvP focused and some missions directly involve PvP.

Is it possible, yeah. Is it viable, no. Dunno what people are smoking in the comments above.

Unless the full game is hiding giant maps x3-x5 bigger than the ones in the beta, PvP will almost always happen with how tight the lanes on the maps are. Also, good loot comes from events which will funnel players into unavoidable combat. There also aren't that many extraction points on the maps as the active escape points slowly rotate between only a couple at any given time.

Most selling game atm on USA and #2 on Global behind CS which is free. Hoping for the best, game is a lot of fun imo especially since the gameplay is so good but I dunno, we'll see if it has legs or not.
Having free updates could also help with that, was definitely expecting paid stuff other than cosmetics. So good move from bungie.

That building with the bugs on perimeter will be a pvp hotspot for a few days :D
That was the site of my first pvp kill in the slam lol

I had gotten in and out for the mission and the next time I passed by, some guy was fighting the turret, bots, AND ticks. I thought about having mercy but nahhh.

Both the first two maps are very open in design when moving from one marked location to another. And there's not just one way to and from a location.
I'd say half the matches I played solo involved PvP and half of those were PvP actively sought out. So maybe a 25% chance of getting into a PvP fight when trying to avoid it.
Plenty of players would die from AI, or other PvP fights, and there's less players in a match compared to ARC (although this is map dependent).

In general PvP in both Solo and squads happened far less than in ARC Raiders.

Cross has his stream up and Skarrow is wandering around Bungie HQ. He has shaved his head for launch, looks like hes from Tau Ceti lol.

No Reviews yet?
There wont be any, the game launches in 2 hours.

And can't really be reviewed properly until all the content is available, sometime around mid march.

Fully expecting it to score around 6-7 from the press, but who cares about those folks?

No Reviews yet?
Nope and anyone releasing a review before doing the raid are unreliable

Edit: I heard in a danish gaming podcast yesterday, that Sony told them to finish the raid before releasing a review. I'd imagine they told that to all who received a review copy.

There's a whole runner shell dedicated to just that. You're dropped into already running games, you can "blend in" with the NPC enemies. You're meant to use it to do exactly what you described. But there are drawbacks. You can't progress factions/do contracts with it.

I see, but why are reviews pointless? I mean Quake 3 was a 9.5 for me.
See the Arc Raiders eurogamer score.

You need to see what other folks who like similar PVP games to you think of it imo. Most reviewers have a passing interest in pvp at best in my experience.

That's funny if they expect the average gaming journo to be capable of that. Or maybe the raid is easier than I'm expecting.
