Marathon |OT| A Shell of its Former Self.

Anyone have trouble with the first NuCaloric mission?

Have to retrieve an employee ID card but the little outpost it is in wouldn't unlock.

Not sure why. I killed all the enemies around it and cleared out the tick nests.

Go to the roof, there's a spot you can destroy to get into the building

Be lucky you even got to be at that building for longer than 30 seconds. Every time I've tried to do that quest there's a team waiting.

Only managed to exfil maybe 3 or 4 times out of the few hours I played today. Kept getting matched with randos that didn't speak or that just ran into fights and died immediately. I constantly lost my gear today trying to help people and it was so annoying. Finally met a couple nice dudes we added each other and played some matches. At this point im still on the fence... absolutely love the art style and audio though I still struggle with the issues I had during server slam. Its a good game. I think? Haha im trying

Run solos for certain things.

Like if its your first time attempting a contract go solo with a free loadout.

Sneak there, loot some stuff, then look around. Maybe you'll complete or part of it to make progress or you'll learn where it may or may not be for the objective.

I amass loot in solo and use it in squads to try to get snowballed richer. Risk is your two people can be on free loadouts so you gotta carry to come out a bandit.

Gameplay is great but man wtf is this UI.... everything about this game screams overproduced in regards to UI and aesthetics.

I will say people are SO bad at this game lol. Just running around like retards fighting all the UESC they come across, not taking the high ground, not chilling for a sec.

Lost so many matches already 'cause of randoms just being RANDOM as fuck.
You are not kidding dude. I finally had a team so bad that I just exfiled without waiting for or saving them. One refused to heal themselves up and got downed 3 times, twice to UESC. After I activated the exfil they both ran off to fight AI and aggroed two grenade launching UESC so I said FUCK that and supported from afar while one tried to res the other while under fire lmao. I had a blue backpack and full inventory so I was not losing my stuff cause of their dumb asses. No sympathy lol

Ahh yeah I just had to google it...thought I just missed something. Apparently all the lore stuff wasn't in the server slam or their battel pass stuff or whatever their codex thing is wasn't included either.
Huh? The codex and lore was in the betas and server slam. Just the battle pass wasn't in.

I would do solo. Randoms, I've found, are not very social in this game. We're all sociopaths.

No preorder stuff though and no access to the battle pass, presumably a bug.
I was able to access it. Is the skin at the end for every class or just the one shown? Thought the BP was kind of junk otherwise. Lots of weapons but I have to many already.

The game is even better now that I'm working on contracts and things like that. TTK doesn't bother me anymore now I like it. I hate all the running and gunning shit and you don't have time for that here you die quickly. I died because my team left me behind since I ran off to do a quest. The quest gave me two extra shield slots though so it was 100% worth it. Plus everything I had was looted off another runner when I did a free load out run.

I'm having great luck with randoms it's all I do. I leveled up quickly like that with so many quest getting completed.

When frustrated, remember the Server Slam exfilf stats.

41,8% Perimeter
35,6% Dire Marsh

(tbh my Perimeter exfil was like 15% ffs)

Solos are just too ridiculous right now. The TTK is far too quick to counter a camping player at an extract.

Sticking with Trios.

Gotta have green shields or a bubble shield nade for outplays. I've soloed 1v3 as triage.

My complaint would be it takes too long to find or get to blue shields and better.

I think I have extracted twice in about a dozen raids. The UI is such trash and the TTK is abysmal, even with a green shield on.

I like the maps a lot and the gunplay is top notch. I still prefer Arc over this. Arc just makes things easy to make out. This is just sensory overload. I'll keep at it, but I don;t know how long I will stick with it. I have only been playing solos and it is super sweaty. I have been running pretty much Vandal only.

I'm not talking about situations where you know where other players are.

I'm talking about just how easy it is to get killed instantly even with a green shield and playing cautiously.

If you catch a player activating an extract you win. There's literally nothing that player can do once that animation starts. I actually managed this two times in a row using a white tier smg. I would be heading towards an extract point and by luck another playing is right there activating it. Aimed and fired and he was dead with a green shield almost instantly. No time for him to react at all.

It works okay in trios because you generally can see or hear teams and if you're downed then it's not over.

If you've only been doing solos then try trios.

Had three good solo runs in a row. Got some weapon attacments and a full kit of all the mods. Unlocked some alterante skins for Vandal as well.

Difference between a stock gun and even a green gun feels yuge. You can kill runners with even the shittiest gun if you're smart and have good positioning, but starting to run marsh with the much heavier ai presence... green brrrt smacks UESC around pretty good. Use it or lose it, baby!!

decided to pick it up on a whim, i dont understand why you cant even add ammo to the free kits? im playing solo with randoms, only played once and got smoked but was probably my fault.

Played a couple hours today solo, enjoying it a lot. Enemy bots are no joke and baited me hard in my last run. Lured me into a tiny room with one door and then swarmed me with half a dozen enemies 😁

I've been doing shoot on sight with other players. I LOVE how much audio is a factor in this game. I was looting a room when I heard a gunfight break out down the hall. I crouch walked over and hid behind boxes. Watched one played kill two other players and a couple of bots. As he was looting I waited for the sound of him going into a locker then I quietly snuck in and plugged him while his guard was down 😃

Lovely game, excited to play more.

Yup. Sitting in your vault not being used is no better than losing it in a run in the grand scheme of things.

I played a lot of Tarkov and honestly the game became much more fun when I realized that nothing ultimately mattered and if I lose all my shit I lose all my shit so I'm carrying that over into Marathon. Yeah it sucks if I have items I need for a quest and I die but who gives a shit even if I lose every single thing in my vault I can just grab a free loadout and try again.

It's tough to get over that hump if you're new to extraction, but it's the key to actually having a good time.

The gear grind is the gameplay loop. I am a pretty average PvP player, but I love how fun the game can be even when you are sucking and playing with free loadouts. In a lot of ways it is more enjoyable than when you are stacked with great loot. I can't say that about any other PvP game. All it takes is one great run

100%. I spent a lot of time in Tarkov not wanting to take guns in or going out of my way trying to hide all my gear in some corner I didn't think anybody would look if I was in trouble (for people that don't know Tarkov has an insurance feature where you can insure equipment but it only works on "lost" items aka not extracted by another player or player scav so the idea is if you are for example screwed and you know you aren't going to make it you just hide your shit in some random bush so that you get it back after time from insurance) and I found that it really hampered my enjoyment of the game and same with my buddy I played with.

Now ultimately we both ended up quitting the game (like legit Alt-F4 and uninstall) when we lost over $1M worth of gear due to a cheater moments into a run but that was more just being so sick of the cheating and less losing the gear.

One thing I really love about Marathon is how quickly you can get back into a new run. You can die and mash square and be in a new run within like 10 seconds if you were using a sponsored load out since it just auto loads a new one.

Just checked the steam reviews out of curiosity and damn... Its at 91%

People who bought this game really likes it, that is why i think this will have legs on the long run.

It's all downhill from here, baby!!

I mostly stuck to Perimeter during the tests and server slam. Dire Marsh feels way more intense. Made it out last run after an attempted ambush by the world's worst Assassin player, but was in running battles with UESC more often than not. So many turrets. Saw one other dude extracting but let him go. Poked around Intersection most of the time looking for the damn terminal for the Traxus unlock mission and never found it. Outpost is gonna be crazy.

Been grinding all day to hit 15 so I can see the third map. Level 14 now but will likely save it for tomorrow.

I have made many men rage today. Get fucked scrubs.

Will be joining you guys next week to see how the game is.

Im broke as hell after having unexpected repairs on my Renault megane 😅😭

I'm assuming by your name you have a RS? What generation?

We don't have them here in the states or Renault in general but they seem fun. I know a streamer I used to watch a ton (still watch occasionally) called BreaK drives/drove a stripped Clio with a Megane engine IIRC.

Megane 3 RS 265 Trophy at 400hp. Incredibly quick and hard to believe but I'm neck and neck with a 2023 Porsche GT3 RS on my local track.

Brilliant cars man and It would be Incredibly rare to find something as engaging and raw as this.

It comes at a cost though 😅😭
