Marathon releases to 87,000 players on Steam and 87% Positive Reviews (sponsored by coachmcguirk91)

That's been my consensus on gamers as a whole. Even in the OT, before it launched on PC, half the comments were about how hot Eve was and nothing about the gameplay.
No, it's because those games appeal to the huge Chinese steam population . A western shooter with androids, not so much. It's not all gooning. Same with games like Black Myth.

Thursday 10am and Friday 10am. These are standard work and school times. Same time. It's not weekend vs normal day. By the same fair metric, the CCU dropped 27k on a 24 hour period.
This is me and you arguing over nothing lol. We will know how bad / good it's this weekend. Either complete crash and burn or we might have hope lol

"half the comments were about how hot Eve"

This is in regards to the OT here. Comments in it. Not popularity in Asian countries. Not other games like Black Myth

Sometimes I'm not sure if you're intentionally obtuse or genuinely if every comment goes above your head.

Long term vs 24 hour on the dot are two different things. Long term/weekend is a different point. There's no need to goalpost move.

Just to help us frame Marathon's 87K result a bit more.

Official 24 hour mark: 54,013

This time yesterday was 81,152. That's a 27,139 CCU drop in 24 hours on the dot.
It's a temporary blip since it's Friday.

UK players are in a pub. So are the Germans. Frenchies are drinking wine in sidewalk cafe. Iberian bros are hitting that Sangria.

And Asian bros are asleep. US is still working. So come Sunday when Euro bros wake up from their drinking, Asian bros are off from 9-9-6 and US is back from Church, we will see huge, massive increase in numbers!

Yep, I played a good 5 hours and I just couldn't get past it. The entire time it felt like playing a bugged out game where the textures had been replaced by the stand ins that are visually obvious so you can fix them.

After a few matches on the server slam, I couldn't help but wonder if this was what it's like to have ADHD. I'm not ADHD but the colors, aesthetic, gameplay effects, and the menus made me wonder if that's what ADHD sufferers mean when they say they have sensory overload. The gunplay was great but the whole visual style and effects design was literally tiring to my eyes and brain.

And half of the comments on other top selling games is how ugly some other character is. The millions of Chinese buyers of Stellar blade dont live in your forum bubble is all I'm saying. You said:

I'm saying it did well because the majority chinese steam audience bought it to play a game that appeals to them. Not to goon. Nobody was gooning to Monkey Boy either.
You're the one being obtuse by missing my point.

OK so maybe you're genuinely this dumb.

Stellar Blade landed a meta score in the 80s with western journos who were pressured to flop it because of sexualization. Its a rock solid game.

Maybe you are:

PC gamers just wanted to stare at her big ass, not actually play the game.
That's been my consensus on gamers as a whole.

Most people (especially in China/Korea) wanted to play the game because it appealed to them. Just like they wanted to play Black Myth because it appealed to them.

It's not that hard to understand you know.

Yeah true and MENA is fasting because of ramadan so maybe next month.

Explain to me what "In the OT, half the comments were about how hot Eve was" has to do with Chinese players or Black Myth. Neither are related to the comment. You're dumb as hell.

Right now it's at 64k.

For marathon supporters wanting more CCU, the bets to increasing are peak time slot USA hasn't started yet and a lot of gamers haven't bought or played it yet and are waiting for the weekend.

There always is a weekend spike so that will happen for all games unless it's so bad gamers drop off faster than weekend gamers logging on.

For gamers having a laugh at the CCU, the hope is it's kind of tapped out. So any weekend bump is small. And starting Monday when weekday gaming is low the ccu drops like a rock as momentum was the first day or two and that's it. Downward from from launch.

But the current benchmark is 88k peak yesterday.

I think it'll hit 100k but not much higher then just ween downward as we go and level off with a daily 40 50k, I genuinely think that'll be it's life cycle.

The people it appeals to will enjoy it but it's not welcoming enough to those who have no care about extraction etc... If It had maybe more pvp tie ins and modes I'd be alot lore interested

So what, at least Shift Up targeted a real portion of the game purchasing population and went all out to appeal to them, and made money selling to them.
That's a much better business move than other companies that tries to make games to appeal to a conjured up imaginary modern audience that's never buying any of their games.

Why do you continue to act dumb?
You think this is you implying it's only about the OT?:

People aren't stupid you know.

Yesterday, at this time the game had 87K players. Today it's at 64K.
Usually, at this time on a friday, the numbers should be rising. Not lowering.

This game will sell best to bungie gamers, arc raider gamers wanting something new and shooter fans who like bold sci-fi art.

Most gamers (including most shooter gamers too) won't care. It's still a niche gameplay mp mode and it's art style is a love it or hate it kind of vibe.

Anything to do with the complex UI is more for people who already bought it. I don't think many gamers give a shit buying a game or not based on seeing what the UI looks like in a YT video.

There's no other way of cutting it. Waiting for this magic explosion for a game that's been very public for some time is unlikely to happen. I can get a sleeper hit finding late traction, but I wouldn't lay down any bets on it happening here.

I'll wait for the first "Wait till they bring out the first content drop to see the numbers spike" post.

Like if they tied in say other pvp modes meaning you go in extract guns to use in tdm, or other standard play lists Id actually be more inclined to dive in.

I'm a pvp guy through and through but not for BR or extraction, I find them way to niche and annoying than typical pvp. But if I'd extract guns to take into other match modes I'd be down with that with maybe the only chance to lose them is in the main extraction mode, not something id love love but I'd be way more tempted by it having other modes

This game seems to be sitting squarely in the limbo it created for itself and that it belongs in. It's not the hit that Sony and Bungie expect it to be, and it's not the total flop and failure that something like Concord is. It's just...there, and what's there isn't anything special. I think this next month or so until the content drop and then the resulting response is what will keep this game alive or end it for good.

This 1000%

I have zero horses in this race (but plan to buy Marathon on weekend) but people making it look like folks are not buying/playing the game on consoles.

I think that in the end Marathon won't become the mega-hit, but won't flop either, it will find it's dedicated moderately respectrable audience.
Just think a moment, we are talking about Bungie a studio over 800 employee's, a game that's been in development for a long time and which was delayed as well. This is not a low budget game regardless of how it may look, the 250 million rumour is probably pretty close.

Then take into account that Destiny their current main current form of revenue is not doing great and they're in all sorts of trouble.

It's not gonna be even close to a mega hit, it's actually pretty close to flopping because of the reasons above.

This is comedy gold 🤣

Maybe this is the moment Sony will realise that success comes from making games we want to play rather than games that they want us to play.

That's asking for too much though obviously.

Lol this is so true. If I look in a thread and see people saying "wait for weekend numbers" that's how I know it's a bomba. I'd love to see an example of a game launching to modest numbers and then randomly exploding once the weekend arrives. It's total copium. RE9 was pulling 350K on steam when it was the dead of night in the US and the work day in Europe and Asia.

Yeah, it was posted by someone for a totally different GaaS title but every damn time... we see the same lines, excuses, and cope.

I feel like that copypasta is going to get some heavy mileage around here.

Even more is this is supposed to be the honeymoon phase, nobody at bungie or Sony could be happy with this I mean outside of the kumbaya we made it type mentality this is pretty underwhelming.

Like let's frame it like this if 4 or 500k people were eating this up I would maybe have to rethink my stance and power thru some of the stuff I don't like to try and find the love, but man these numbers are pretty hurtin

Its still going up, over 67k ccu now, altho looks like it slowed down a bit, definitely has a chance to beat its alltime peak if US goes in balls deep, i mean they just need barely over 20k ppl from the freedom land on top of what we got here in euroland :messenger_smiling_hearts:
