Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

I figure this is "close enough" when it comes to discussions about modern graphical fidelity, so I'm gonna post it here.
I admire somebody who is willing to fire nukes in all directions, whether I agree or disagree with what he's saying.

This issue is largely irrelevant for me. I'm perfectly happy with pretty much any graphics, as long as the game is fun and the controls aren't problematic.

When you look like in game models in Uncharted 4, Last of Us and few other games - they look very similar to RE9 model without RT. I don't see any conspiracy here.

It's not like Callisto is not very heavy on the hardware... It still runs like crap compared to many other games with far more intense RT effects.

Dont pay any attention to a loser who yells about regression in graphics in an age where consoles are getting ray tracing and PCs are getting path tracing. Technologies that were once only available in $200 million movies.

The funny thing is that he doesnt even talk about the clickbait comparison in the thumbnail.

RE9 looks like a cross-gen title most of the time though, with a notable increase in textures quality & geometry, that's about it I feel.

Path Tracing does massively enhance the visuals yes, but the game's core visuals are rather outdated most of the time. I have to be honest. Samson looks good too I feel.

I was playing Demon's Souls remake, then I started playing RE9, I can't get past how much of a visual downgrade the game is compared to Demon's Souls, it's ridiculous! DeS is a 2020 game too.
Agree to disagree, i think it looks nextgen often enough.

the guy MILD who leaked the Pro specs is saying the PS5 is going to have 54 CUs and run at 3 Ghz. That gives it 20 tflops. The PS5 was 10. So only 2x better. He said in terms of performance, its 3x so there are some IPC gains that get us to 30 ps5 tflops. Still absolute garbage. They should delay the PS5 to 2029 because 20 tflops is garbage. Should be 35 minimum and have the IP gains take it to 50 ps5 tflops.

I'm all for waiting a little longer for a larger jump, but something tells me even if it did delay to 2030, they're not going to completely scrap their design and start over for more performance.

It doesn't look like traversal stutters, though. Most of them occur when the camera is moving around (except the moment at 2:33)
it could just be the capture. ive noticed this in my nvidia app captures. if the framerate is variable on my end, it adds these weird stutters during camera pans in my captures. i dont notice them during gameplay becuase i have vrr turned on but they appear in the mp4 files.

And Sony was designing this thing when memory was cheap. They clearly proritized having no less than 30GB of memory over anything else. Low power draw and GPU smaller than PS5 Pro. This reminds me of MS wanting to have Kinect and 8GB of RAM in X1 - it ended up with slow DDR3 and underpowered APU.

In the end RT and ML differences will be big, when devs will really start using it - power difference between gens will be obvious.

if they delay to 2029 we still get same garbage

Whaat? Only 3x times PS5? That is abysmal I'm sorry. Maybe only in Rasterization? I bet RT will be 10x times or more since games are starting to use a lot of RT and even PT now with a big landmark game like RE9.

Plus who knows what Neural Rendering will bring by 2028/2029, we may get graphics that are processed & inferred by AI so maybe Rasterization uplift will become less important.

We'll see, but I'm not expecting much in this economy, except if Sony is crazy enough to sell us on a $700/$800 console.

3x ps5 in raster. 12x in ray tracing. but cerny also said the pro was 4x in ray tracing and that was a load of bullshit.

ray tracing performance is great and all but you need raw compute power to do all kinds of other visuals effects like volumetric effects, physics and fluid simulations, geometry rendering, draw distance rendering, hair, cloth simulations, cloth and overall material quality, npc rendering, character rendering, and a million other things the GPU has to do other than realtime lighting, reflections and shadows. AI upscaling also uses the GPU.

Nueral rendering is bullshit. nvidia announced it last year and it was implemented in alan wake 2. it did nothing. these devs barely even take advantage of mesh shaders. they didnt touch the fancy io in both machines. dont expect them to use these gimmicky neural features.

Agree to disagree, i think it looks nextgen often enough.
hes playing the base ps5 version i believe. not only does it not have path tracing, it doesnt even have ray tracing, and other effects like volumetrics are missing. the price of 60 fps on base consoles. they shouldve just released a 30 fps option with ray tracing and all setting maxed out. this is a third person game that doesnt need a first person mode that needs to run at 60 fps.

Edit: i guess he's playing the pro version.

I used to have a beast PC but I can't play it right now.

I am playing on PS5 Pro, IDK, most of the game so far didn't look current-gen or particularly amazing, I do notice the healthy boost in overall scene geometry & textures quality compared to previous RE games (4 Remake & Village) but everything else is kinda run-of-the-mill cross-gen game still? The city sections look jaw-dropping though.

I have a feeling I'm missing out BIG on Path Tracing, it looks to bring a transformative difference.

3x ps5 in raster is just an good old 4090 recycle lol, might still worth something by then considering the ridiculous hardware costs? (As long as clueless crybabies won't scream for 120fps without framegen or whatever retardera level shenanigans )

I'm having fun fucking around with RE9 settings right now, and one thing is sure: Capcom didn't put lots of effort into non-RT lighting.
Direct lighting from this construction lamp, e.g., looks good without RT:

But WTF is wrong in open spaces?
The background environments still look great, but Grace's face does not seem to be lit at all:

On the other hand, PT isn't immaculate either. She obviously had a full path-tracing hair dye accident. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

The guy is a fruadster, scammer, liar and a grifter. Please stop posting his videos. He raised millions to "fix UE5" and has done absolutely nothing.
It shows how gullible society is that a guy like that is getting that many views.
He also falsely DMCAs any criticism of him.

It's not reaching 4090 levels. Even magnus will be ~5080 (so basically overclocked 4080S with faster memory):

When even NVIDIA can't get the 5080 to perform as well as the 4090, it's pretty obvious that the gains in rasterization will now be minimal.

The real gains will probably be in machine learning and ray tracing.

I said I expected the PS6 to be around the level of a 4080 in rasterization, so I wasn't that far off.

Anyway, based on what Kepler said, the Helix has a BOM of $900 and could cost $1200, probably offering 25-30% more performance than the PS6, which will make a difference, but I don't think it justifies the price difference between the two machines.

It's crazy to think that there could potentially be a $500 difference between the two machines, which is the price of a PS5 or Series X at launch.

I believe that Kepler said that right now the PS6 has a BOM of $699, it's not like it can go much higher because it needs to remain an affordable console and even at this kind of price, we can question whether it still is.

He is very wrong about PS6 BOM, he calculated it (or his sources) in 2025 when RAM prices where hisorically low. Now he says "add 100$" to those calculations:

When price increase was much more than that, NAND prices also went up?

And 5080 has FAR less cores than 4090, it never gonna be faster - only fanboys believed that.

I'm glad that the Threat Interactive grift has finally run out of road. His reach was entirely drive by morons who don't know anything about graphics tech saying "hey this guy really knows what he's talking about".

Good Burger Reading GIF

It was made worse by his appeal to that post-covid boom in conspiratorial thinking - ie. that you could be having it so good if it wasn't for them messing with your graphics. Total charlatan.
