Marathon |OT| A Shell of its Former Self.

Dunno. A triage feeding 2 Vandals with cardio kicks and shield rechargers is fire.

Taste the rainbows
3 dudes who can heal themselves whenever, revive a teammate from far away, and can auto rip shields off.

Too based.

Game jumped back to n2 after being 3rd seller today. The word of mouth will be good for this game once the haters move to their next target 💪

Kinda insane how high are the user reviews on all 3 platforms, i mean if you play the game its not that insane :)

A lot of people are legitimately enjoying the game. The ones who bother to try and put time in and aren't too put off by art direction and UI. Outpost really seems to have scratched the itch for people who wanted a more tense experience and higher likelihood of finding other players. With a little bit of thought needed on how to access certain areas.

Ranked is going to bring out the super sweaty players. Cryo Archive is going to add a whole new experience to the game. By the sounds of it, something extraction shooters haven't really done yet. If the game can hold a solid player base for a couple weeks until those drop, then it'll probably find its legs and the new doom and gloom will be, ridiculously, how successful the game didn't end up being even though it's ultimately a success still.

But it has to get through these next couple weeks. One thing seems certain at this point. This isn't Concord or Highguard. Unlike those games, there are plenty of people who actually like this one.

Just listened to Shroud seriously praise Marathon. Saying the game on Outpost is making his nipples hard and that Marathon is the only extraction shooter he has played that makes him feel the need to clutch up. He commended Bungie for making him feel more nervous than he has on some live stages in front of an audience. "They've got me by the balls. I am loving this loop".

Don't know if anyone else is experiencing this on Pro but literally every time I boot the game up the screen goes black and I have to physically remove the HDMI cable from the TV and plug it back in to see it, has never happened with *any* game before.

They really need to add a shooting range or better yet shooting arena where you can practice newly acquired weaponry on UESC without risk of loss, I still haven't tried the BRRT SMG or shotty I got as contract rewards lol.

And I can't stop thinking how cool a kick-ass campaign would be in this world, it is compelling and engrossing, lots of potential. But let them focus on refining the core experience of what Marathon is first because what's here is gold, just needs some tweaking.

Incredible bug.

Final exfil time coming. I get to an exfil before that and fire it on, and it's working. Then the final all starts, but I go into mine. Timer says 0, but then final exfil is working. I'm in circle and usual exf out plays out.

None of my loot.

wtf!?

i think thats my problem, im playing it like max payne and not splinter cell. Problem is once a robot spots me i kill it then like 90 more show up
You should have enough ammo to clear a base once then you need to be gone before reinforcements come. I play with randoms and they just want to stay at a base and stay fighting the AI sometimes.

Yeah, The Finals has a great small area where you can test out weapons and abilities. That would be awesome here.

Luck of the draw I guess, I did just do a solo run where they did the emote to let me know they wanted to team up, so that was cool.

Yeah, I was with a team and we suddenly just heard, we're dont wanna fight.. and they must have saw us and walked behind us.

And theres other times where there was more than 6 of us are having a mexican stand off on a roof in Marsh, with Robots on the bottom…

I had a sting of like 5 deaths and no success, but then some great runs. Love reviving and taking out a runner with Triage with my primary
You can have a run that lasts 2 mins and get smashed, or have some awesome runs

It feels like futuristic military squid games lol

thats what ive been doing because i had no idea thats how it worked lol, good to know.. thank you!

Game hard crashed on me today while I was in a building w my runners fighting a bunch of robots. Screen went black then the image came back. Revived a guy then my game completely blew up and went back to Xbox dash. Booted up game again and it offered to put me back into the previous match. Checked and still had all my stuff so that was good. We all ended up exfilling together in the end. Totally thought I was gonna lose all my loot there from the disconnect.

Played several matches with my son earlier in the day and he was helping teach me some stuff I didnt know. Also ganking all the blue and purple gear before I could look at it thaaanks son!

Had my first friendly interaction in this game. Got absolutely rolled by another team at Hauler and both my buddies went down. I had snagged some purple loot and I wanted to make it out so I circled down to Overflow and there was another team there that jumped me. I ran into cover and begged for mercy, turned out it was a guy babysitting two brand new players and the four of us extracted together. These moments being the exception rather than the rule makes them more special

I just barely used a headset for the first time while playing today. All other game time was just using the controller's speaker to communicate.

It literally changes the entire game. The sound design is fantastic, so much more immersive, and you can tell the direction where gunfire is coming from even from very far away. Actually improved my game and I had some of my best runs yet. It's the only way I'll play from now on.

I refuse to play this without a headset yet any other FPS on my ps5 idgaf. NEED that juicy audio to survive.

That and Oni doing her soft "go, go, oh" when loading up a match in the menus. Soooo good.

So have we figured out the event? My green monitors in game I find still say 4%?

A little harsh on Arc Raiders but he's an example of one of the groups of people finding what they're looking for in Marathon

Started experimenting play with randoms, definitely a different experience, I don't feel any of the tension and danger as when playing solo but on the other hand it's badass moving as a unit, tearing through UESC and having amazing, emergent gameplay moments against other runner teams. This was with randoms, no mics, look at those kill counts lol:

We wiped one crew easy early on. Midway through we got into a gun battle in the open (Dire Marsh), teammate goes down, other crew hiding in the grass, can't really see. I get taken out, drag my body back to our last remaining squad mate who is locked in behind cover, he revives me. I get taken out *again* but this time by an enemy turret, we are getting it from all sides. He manages to revive me again, the other squad ran away. We revive our other squad mate, then we go hunting. Found that squad, wiped them all out, successfully extracted, it was a beautiful thing.

Edit: also, very first run on Outpost I took out 2 other runners but got smoked at a guarded exfil, had some blue loot from one of those runners too 🤦‍♂️

Game keeps hard crashing for me on PC. Sometimes at the main menu, sometimes 5 minutes into a raid, but it happens every single time.

Really unfortunate as I had zero interest in this game but me and a friend had a lot of fun yesterday. Enough to want to play tonight, but I'm not gonna risk my 5090 by this game constantly crashing my PC.

Do other player's voices come through on the PS5 controller and if so can I change it to my TV?

I would check your drivers. Marathon & hunt showdown would randomly crash with my 4090. After doing a few Google searches, there seems to be issues with newest drivers. I used DDU to remove old drivers & installed this one https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/drivers/results/249019/ not a single crash yet. Give it a week to see if it fixes the crashing then maybe update to newer drivers.

I got a bunch of kills in solo just by listening. Its the most important thing in the game

Been 12hours, and enjoying it way more than Helldivers 2. Addictive.

Picked it up on Steam as well. Going to be honest. I much prefer this game with a controller. It just feels right.
i hated playing it on PS5. even during the server slam on PC it felt wrong and i still had to adjust the settings. at launch it felt different though.... not sure if i was imagining it or they tweaked/fixed something.

considering double dipping on console because i'm having too much fun. might try playing with my controller on PC first for a while before spending more money.

This, random squads have always been the reasons I've lost my good loot, no communication most of the time even though they have mic's.
It's so strange after Arc Raiders. Nine times out of ten, no one talks. And then everyone does their quests alone. I guess most players are from Destiny.

Ultimate rat strategy. Heard a guy at north relay, let him loot for 5 minutes, profit. I dont feel bad at all, welcome to marathon

Yeah unlike Arc Raiders, if you get caught 3 on 1 you are cooked no matter how good of a weapon you have because the TTK is so brutally fast.
It is the opposite. Fast TTK is beneficial to the 1 player in a 3v1. It is nearly impossible to pull off in a game like Arc Raiders

I never talk, but I use the ping and the emotes a lot. I honestly dont think this form of communication is enough for cryo, knowing bungie and their raid-like mechanics. Might just use the mic, finally.

For those of you bros adding me from the second post, I just wanna make you guys aware I an unable to utilize my mic, so if you need a third who can listen and isn't trash then shoot me an invite if you see me on, otherwise I won't try to take a spot from someone who does have a mic!

Not from my experience and logic would dictate that if the TTK is beneficial for one then 3 people shooting at you would be more of a threat. They would literally have to be either split up and completely oblivious to their teammates dying or just running around without a weapon to get gunned down one person that is alone vs the 3 of them.

Weirdly enough the screen thing started happening to me but with Resident Evil Requiem.

It had never done it before but I had started moving it over to my desk so I thought maybe it was my new monitor so I actually exchanged my monitor. Nope. New cable. Nope. Then I thought well it never once did it at my tv since I got my Pro so maybe it's because it's not vertical at my desk but then my girlfriend looked it up

Go into your video settings and there is a HDMI range setting. She saw that people said to put it to -1 or -2. I was worried I would notice a difference but I set it to -1 and it fixed it completely. No more random black screens.

I guess some people only have it on certain displays which makes sense because it never once did it with my C2 and still doesn't but as soon as I used it on my new monitor it started.

So yeah -1 did the trick for me.

Are you on PC? I've found nearly the opposite on PS5. Most matches people are on mics. Sometimes it just takes 1 person to say something first so a lot of times I just immediately say something like "all I need to do is blank so we can go wherever" and then we're talking the entire time.

I've met a lot of really cool people playing so far.

I'm sorry I've ran into this multiple times online but are people seriously calling this game "woke"? I don't know what would even be remotely woke in this game.

I can't get an answer online from the ultra anti-woke brigades because they end up calling you names instead of answering the question.
