Resident Evil Requiem |OT| Through the Darkness

there is only one trophy tied to insanity and it beat the game on insanity
Beating it on Insanity should pop the Using an Ink Ribbon and the Complete the main story on at least Standard (Classic) no? Also it will give me enough points to unlock the models and concept art.

beating the game on standard classic ( which i did first playthrough ) ll also give you these trophies and points for the concept arts, just not the insanity trophy

Guess who constantly saves on the same slot, without using another slot along the way?

Ohh nooo. I am always habitually using multiple slots for just such reasons.

The ink ribbon can be done at any time on either standard classic or insanity, it doesn't need to be retroactive to any specific difficulty.

And, yes, beating insanity unlocks all lower difficulty completion trophies/achievements.

For those who have finished Requiem, where do you rank it among the modern games?

I'd probably go:

  1. RE2 Remake
  2. RE4 Remake
  3. RE Village
  4. RE Requiem
  5. RE7
  6. RE3 Remake

I really liked Village though and I know I'm a bit of an outlier on that.

Right. I misspoke. I just meant on my Insanity run I will pop those remaining trophies, as my first run was on Standard Modern. Sorry about that.

For the sake of keeping it short, listing just the modern RE engine games, I will go:

- RE2make/RE4make equally on the top spot
- RE VII Biohazard just because it was such an amazing soft reboot
- RE Requiem
- RE Village

- RE3make

9 could be above 8 easy if it was not for the bad writing all over the place and the annoying main character.

Here's my rankings:

It's middle of the pack for me, but high up in the middle of the pack. I think Village edges it out for having better Enemy Variety, Exploration, Gun Upgrade System, and Boss battles.

Grace's sections are by far the best, but due to them being half the game, lacking enemy variety, and zombies following very specific paths and behaviors, it gets old kinda fast. Leon's section in RC drags on for way too long, again lacks enemy variety, and compared to how great Rhodes Hill was, it's not nearly as interesting. RPD needed to be fleshed out more, it's over way too quickly.

Requiem is really great for a first playthrough, but the cracks start to really show on subsequent playthroughs. I think the Remakes hold up a lot better on replays.

For me playing RE 9 on Standard (Classic)
  1. RE2 Remake & RE4 remake
  2. RE7
  3. RE Village
  4. RE3 Remake
  5. RE Requiem
But after reading more impressions of insanity mode without mods, I do expect it to be a LOT better than RE3 remake for me (may be even better than Village, though I doubt it as the bosses are still going to be disappointing). But will likely do that playthrough when the DLC is out as I tend to not replay games without something new to experience. In no rush. Need to feel that itch again.

2. RE2 remake
3. RE4 remake
4. RE7
5. RE8

Two sections on insanity that gave me trouble:

protecting Grace with the rifle from the rooftop. This took several tries.
Also, when collecting the detonator parts and you're on the rooftop with military zombies shooting at you and the zombies firing mortars at you. I tried many times to kill all the zombies on the way to get the part and snipe the mortar zombies. Died over and over. Finally just said fuck it and ran like hell to the detonator part, got it and ran back out. That was way quicker and easier for me.

you are missing the point that ONE time was enough for most ppl to dismiss/criticize as an over dramatic characterization of Jill, but now its "oscar winning performance" to have a 24yo FBI agent that cant talk and/or walk properly, not even with a 8yo child.
I was genuinely asking, but okay.

The problem with this nebulous "Most people" being referenced is it means nothing without it being tied to people who definitely have double standards, because without evidence of it actually happening I have nothing to comment on.

Personally, I didn't have a problem with Jill's PTSD/paranoia intro and I didn't have a problem with a socially awkward nerd girl being scared. But I also don't think they're comparable, as one is an intro that is forgotten about and one is a consistent personality trait of an already socially awkward and timid nerd girl that isn't post her traumatic situation when we're playing as her.

Casual, infinite ammo if you have it, just run through everything, kill only needed enemies with requiem or bazooka for Leon

I found this character to be the best looking in-game model so far when it comes to controlling them. Wonder what kind of sorcery was done that wasn't done for the other Characters.

Just run. Go only where you need to, dodge everything, don't pick anything up you don't actually need and don't shoot at anything unless you absolutely have to. I did it in casual and got through it in just under 3 hours. I also didn't have infinite ammo unlocked, you'll pick up some in key areas anyway and because you're not firing much you won't need much.

Really like Requiem. Was worried Capcom couldn't pull off the dual protagonist / dual views, but I think for the most part they did. The only part that really drags badly IMO is the "child" section. But this drag is nothing like the ship or mines in RE7 (which turned a 10/10 game into an 8/10 game). Need to play RE Remake (never have) and also need to replay RE2R and RE3R as I haven't touched those since release (I'm guessing RE2R will shoot up the list after), but right now I'd probably go:

1. RE4R /RE4 OG
2. RE9
3. RE Village
4. RE2R
5. RE7

I almost always put gameplay over story (in RE's case, horror)

1. 4R
2. 8
3. 3R
4. 9
5. 7
6. 2R

4,8, and 3R are fun to replay (the 3R perfect dodge to headshot just feels good). 4 and 8 have fun Mercenaries modes. The villains in 8 barring the final boss are all terrific and memorable. Baby was great. I also enjoyed Shadows of Rose. The mannequins were creepy.
9 my only complaint is the orphanage because it felt shoehorned in from a gameplay standpoint, and the lack of extra modes.
7's ship and lack of enemy variety takes it down a notch, though it edges out 9's horror. The Bakers' realistic portrayal was some good shit. Best DLC of the whole series. Aside from Jack's birthday and Ethan Must Die, none of it felt tacked on and those were fun anyway.

Everyone rags on 3's cut content, but 2 sticks out like a sore thumb to me. Both B sides are missing so much and 3R was just more immediately replayable for me. I really liked the 4th survivor 2R stuff. Well, the cop one was tedious.

None of these games are less than a A- though.
Truth be told I feel silly even ranking them because I would recommend all of them.

Props to 9 for bringing some of the horror back.

Credit to Capcom, even though there are a ton of horror games out there, and definitely some really good ones, I don't think it's controversial to say that RE is hard carrying gaming's horror genre.

In the end I think I'm just much more into the claustrophobic, scary, puzzle-focused side of Resident Evil than the hammy, over-the-top, action-focused side of Resident Evil.
The conspiracy theorist in me thinks it might not be a coincidence that Leons second half of the game felt unfinished, unsatisfying, unpolished, and graphically dull. Devs purposely delivered his portion undercooked so hype for the more action oriented games starts to cool.

Even on a 2nd playthrough it continues to be endlessly funny how Grace is designed to be weak and barely capable even against a single regular zombie, then when you play as Leon you almost feel bad cause it's like watching a trained UFC Fighter fight some sort of small sickly dog.

My reaction when I'm playing as Leon and a random nobody zombie charges him:

I read someone somewhere had gotten DLC for Requiem and said the game's performance increased and regularly hit 60fps

I don't know how true that is.

RC segment is aesthetically similar to Final Chapter movie for example, i don't see where the game is unfinished.
Imo it actually felt very rounded, with an almost self-contained story with no filler.

RE7 (Minus the boat section)

RE2 (Minus chess pieces and sewers)

RE3 / Requiem (Both games were more of a turn off brain and go for it type of experience. Slightly for different reasons, but fun rides. Requiem has some backwards reasoning and character work that even for a video game, stands out as stupidly bad / immersion breaking)

RE4 (The camera being "revolutionary" at the time probably gave it more legendary status than it deserves and it still carrys on. Has issues with pacing, some boring areas, and can drag its heels a bit)

RE Village (Ethan's 1 liners are enough for me to want him dead)

For me it comes down to fun factor. I love Grace. I love that when you start to get tired of one gameplay style you get a fresh new one and vice versa. I love the gore. The spray of blood on ceilings/walls. The finisher animations for Leon. The zombies who talk/sing. The hilarious fact that throwing a bottle at a zombie will get Leroy (idk his actual name lol) who can't stand sound to kill a zombie for you. How switching on a light down a hall will get the butler to move his ass adding strategy. I love both styles of RE and 9 combined them so well.

For now(maybe it will change when the dust settles) the current new game is my favorite. I can't stop playing it. Only factoring in nostalgia would change this current list.

1. RE Requiem
2. RE4 Remake
3. RE3 Remake
4. RE2 Remake

I don't feel like ordering the rest but I can say 6 is dead last. I've played all of the major entries. I haven't tried many of them like The FPS one, Gaiden, Outbreak etc.

1. RE4Remake = basically in it's own universe enteirely, it's a modern masterpiece even though it's a remake
2. RE7 = atmosphere unmatched
3. RE2R = Nostalgia bomb and clean gameplay
4. RE9 = Nice blend of all the parts that make RE great
5. RE8 = Loved the gothic horror theme but felt the least like a RE game.

RE3R was just cashgrab trash.

When I see Re Village and 7 over Requiem/Re2R/Re4R
Shocked Maya Rudolph GIF

Gonna repeat my position on this a bit, but I can see why someone would rank Village over Requiem. I'm one of them.

Village has issues of being an uneven and unfocused game, but in terms of environments, enemy variety, exploration, gun system, and boss battles, it outclasses Requiem. I would says Rhodes Hill rivals and even surpasses the Castle and the village, but all the other environments in Requiem are way worse than the ones in Village. The exploration in Village is really good too, being able to revisit previous areas and explore more of it after acquiring certain items, and you get rewarded with things like treasure, animals to hunt, gear ,etc. The exploration in Requiem doesn't feel nearly as rewarding. Village also has a whole variety of enemies to encounter, whereas Requiem is 95% Zombies. As for the weapons, the "stronger" guns you can acquire as Leon, don't feel that much different from your starter guns. The Rifle maybe, but everything else just feels like guns with better stats. With Village, most of the guns feel pretty different from each other.

I think when you deconstruct both games, Village just has more to offer. I think it's a good game, it's not one of my favorites, but playing Requiem has made me appreciate the things Village did right.

It's like self-parody levels of bad almost lol
Yep, once the honeymoon period fades I think the word of mouth will be much less glowing.

While I quite liked Grace's part (though without thinking it did anything stellar compared to what came before), I am in the camp of those who feel that Leon's section mostly feels like a mediocre TPS from the 360 era - it really feels like an open worldish experiment gone wrong -. Also the story of the whole game is terrible once you stop and think about it for 2 seconds (worst than the rest of the series I mean, except for RE6 maybe).

Overall the game does some great stuff, notably in terms of overall polish and production value, but has horrible lows as well.

I would definitely rank it below RE7 and RE8.

The production value and polish have fallen into the Grand Canyon after the hospital so I'm just playing in amused disbelief. RC is like Dark Souls II tier "what the fuck happened" to me right now lol

you do you boo! lol
but for me, if Village or 7 was so great I would of had the urge to finish them both when I 1st played them, it wasn't the case than and its still the case now!
they both don't feel like Re games, they could of slapped a different tittle on both and nobody would of question if it is a Re game.
Requiem is like Reremake2 on crack with some Re4R thrown in for good measures , with zombies with different personalities etc
Re2R and Re4R were both my favorite of the modern Re games soo, yeah anyways
to each their own!
