Who else would like to see From Software do another First Person RPG?

Probably most would like a revival of King's Field but what I would really like to see is a continuation of the Shadow Tower series, Shadow Tower Abyss is such a hidden gem on the PS2 and then there's Eternal Ring... probably the worst of the bunch but I still kinda liked it.

I'm down, would love to see these games re-imagined. Though to be fair, I'm open for pretty much anything they do where they try something new (new relative to their current trajectory - which I also love).

count me in, I want their old game remake treatment. though not hopping too much. at least modernize the control and speed of the attack would be cool.
I never finished one of their First person rpg games, it's too clunky even for me who very open to retro clunkyness.

No.

FromSoftware figured out something way better when they switched to third-person with Demon's Souls onward

I'd rather see them keep evolving in third-person, maybe another swing like a new IP, or hell, lean into Armored Core-style stuff more. But dragging the old first-person dungeon crawler formula out of the grave? No thanks. Let it stay a cool piece of history that inspired the masterpieces we have now

It'd just be the FromSoftware name slapped on the box, with none of the spirit that made them successful. Those games were crafted by a core crew that's mostly gone.

I do wonder how many people genuinely remember playing Kings Field vs imagined they did or assume they were good because, no, they were absoultely trash.

Pre-Miyazaki at the helm fromsoft was an extremely poor studio, lol

FromSoft have drifted too far away from the realm of King's Field, even Demons Souls and Dark Souls.

They've hit on a formula with a big market space now, so there's no going back to these slower paced games. Sad because I much prefer those to the more recent games. I guess it's for other studios to pick up that mantle and make those games knowing that the audience will likely be smaller, but still valuable for the right budget.

I'd love to! But sadly they don't seem interested in making slow dungeon crawls anymore. Nowadays they are all about bombastic boss fights and, well...

Thankfully indies come to the rescue. Personally I have my eyes set on those two:

These aren't it to me. They're literal clones rather than evolutions of the concept.

I think about it like this: With each release FromSoft hit a fork in the road and they chose the path that led to Elden Ring. What if someone took a different path. One where they didn't drop the first person view, and didn't increase the speed of play. Where could that other road lead? What other future could we see birthed from the early steps of Kings Field or Demons Souls?

There would have been no future. Those games never sold a lot and would have never been as popular as Souls games. I too prefer the slower approach bet lets not lie to ourselves: most people think those games are boring and would much rather fight Malenia 20 times than exploring the Ancient City.

And yeah I agree that some indies that try to be KF don't really "get it" and end up making something like Lunacid filled with anime stuff and were you can level up your speed killing the slower approach completly. Those two I posted look good to me tho, and you could check Monomyth as well which if I'm not mistaken is sort of an evolution of the idea since it includes a lot of immersive-sim stuff into the formula.

Play Armored Core VI.
Doesn't it play a lot (or at least kinda) like a soulskiro game? You have parries, a stagger meter, dodges, lock on...

He should still play it because the game is fucking amazing, but while playing it (only AC game I've played) I could see some similarities on it's design.

Parry? I don't remember having any parry in Armored Core VI?

Also most you exist in game that's not Souls games and even pervious Armored Core toy dodge enemy's attacks.

As for first person Soulslike experiences, I think Valor Mortis might be one to keep an eye on.

I enjoyed my time with KF3 (KF2 US) and would love for the whole series to get ported to modern systems. But they'd need some drastic changes to make it worth pouring the resources needed to update it to modern standards.

But who knows, maybe just being a new game from FromSoft is enough to make it sell gangbusters. 🤷‍♂️

Fromsoftware are becoming creatively bankrupt honestly. When you make souls games over and over and over again then it all starts to blend together because said souls games don't even have a compelling narrative to distinguish themselves from one another. I'd like to see them go back to weird games like lost kingdoms 1/2 cause those are excellent games.

No parry, right! My mistake. In any case you can't deny they play very similar, specially when going against bosses.

There's many action games that don't rely on lock-on nor iframe dodges for the combat.

Armore Core VI is very much played like previous games. Before Demons Souls FROM used to make AC games.

There is no iframe in ACVI. Even while dodging if even enemies attack connects you still take hit.

A new kings field would be great. I beat Lunacid a few months ago and loved it, even with its… issues. I'd like it for sure to see how the pros do it, maybe with just ps2 level graphics.

I've been begging for a new King's Field since the PS3. I'll gladly sacrifice all Dark Souls games and Elden Mid for a new King's Field.

Yes I'd like to see a dungeon crawler by From Soft.

They could really mix up the gameplay with a different kind of combat mechanic, no invincibility frame dash / roll / parry. Make player positioning the key to combat or even try turn based from first person or why not switch to a grid based combat on the fly.

hell no

All melee first person combat is trash. Don't bother to list the ones you think are good, i played them, they're not skyrim bad, but they're never gonna be even remotely close to being as good as third person.

That's settled then. I was quite excited by the idea, but when you put it like that I realise I'm completely wrong. Stupid me.

I wouldn't mind them trying anything that differentiates them more than third-person souls-like at this point.

Seeing them bring back Armored Core was refreshing, but I don't think I'd want them to just re-use the King's Field template.

If they did go with a first-person dungeon crawler, I'd like the combat to flow better than King's Field, maybe like this:

I feel like after Elden Ring they kind of have to. They reached the pinnacle of what a third person action game could be it feels like.

But making the move back to first person RPG and reclaiming the crown from Bethesda? Do it, Miyazaki!

Fat fucking chance. They've tasted fame, its now at their heads and you're only getting Elden Ring stuff, maybe with different names. A sequel to Bloodborne or a remake? Nah. Sequel to Sekiro? Fuck that? Elden Ass where you play as yet another weak ass undead and become lord with the same copy pasted assets with different skins on the same shitty engine? FUCK YEAH
