Can we all just say it already?

Digital Foundry is a fraud.

As with most John videos, 90% is waxing poetics about the game and he only spends 2~ minutes talking about the actual performance stats and only covers water reflections distance between the Optimal and Quality mode.
lol this made me laugh. Professional glazer. I will never forget his 50 minute (not an exaggeration) video on the TLOU1 remake spending his time pointing out shadows cast by ceiling fans.

he needs to tone it down a notch. this is my most anticipated game of the decade and even i cant trust this fool because he used the same superlatives about Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei. He doesnt realize that fawning over every game devalues the ones that actually deserve it.

One very important thing to note for everyone - looking at the YT version now, I realized that YT destroyed so much of the game's visual detail which is a shame. It still looks awesome but, in person, it's far more impressive.

If it's really CPU limited the framerate on PS5 shouldn't be very different than here.

But I wonder what kind of RT the base consoles will have at 60fps.

Game looks good on PS5 Pro. I wouldn't be mad if I only had a PS5 Pro to play the game. Would prolly play the balanced mode.

I really liked the last 10 minutes of the video. John's 4 hour journey. This is exactly how I will play the game and it seems to be packed with things to discover. The rain leaving behind puddles for a very long time is also a nice detail, always annoys me when rain dries up too fast in games.

You da MVP.

I'll be going with the PC version, but not too shabby on the Pro before the day 1 patch.

PSSR2.0 should clean up a lot of the minor image issues and help with draw distance noise and possible pop-in (since some noticed an improvement on GT7 today with draw distance and performance).
Yep. DF should make another one as soon as the game upgrades to PSSR 2.0 on Day One.

It looks incredible on PS5 Pro (and when it comes out with PSSR2 it will be even better), this graphics engine used in Crimson Desert puts others to shame, UE5...we'll see on the base consoles.

This puts whatever is coming from Unreal Engine 5 to shame. That's why I am an avid fan of in-house engine solutions. They built Black Space engine to be able to deliver an immersive world while delivering incredible performance.

Wow. So they told the fans that they are not releasing the footage because they are sending it to DF for the sake of full transparency, and sent them only the Pro version? Yeesh.

You wouldn't believe the visuals and performance on base models if you saw it with your own eyes!

Games looking pretty damn good. Now just need to decide if this will be a PS title or Steam.
whats your PC GPU? Or more importantly, CPU.

the game seems to be CPU limited. PS5 and Pro are using old zen 2 CPUs that arent even as powerful as their PC counterparts which themselves have struggled mightily in CPU bound games. If you have a semi decent PC setup, get the PC version. Anything with an intel CPU or a Zen 4 CPU or above should be way better. I saw some footage dropping to 38 fps as i skipped through the video. he was saying how it was due to some bugs flying around during combat because it wasnt there when he walked that same area without any combat. Sounds like a CPU bottleneck to me.

I'm more perplexed by the choice of reviewing a version that nobody is gonna ever play or see because pisser2 release when the game release...
On the other hand this will be the first scenario (I think anyway) where a game comes with PSSR1 and then gets PSSR2, so they should be able to use it as a solid demonstration of differences.

"Low" going by the specifications they released. So, I'm guessing it's gonna be lower grade RTGI and maybe axe RT reflections altogether.

The only console versions that match High RT are the PS5/SX 30fps modes.

This video is really nice. Crimson Desert looks like a fucking milestone for console games in general, considering the scope and performance. Total day one for me.

Lol ridiculous. And John's attitude is so stupid, what a douchebag
YEah, could have skipped the "what about it?" part. It's a legitimate question. Pearl Abyss said they're sending console footage or whatever to DF. They didn't say they're sending PS5 Pro version to DF.

Yeah, there are some shorcomings but it's to be expected given how big ass this game is.

To me it looks like next gen Witcher 3.
That's my thing with this game. It seems like one of the more ambitious titles we've seen in a while in terms of scope and systems in the game. If that ends up being the case, then it makes sense that some things slip here and there. Curious to see a full review and find out if they match the previews.

Seems like a cool game, I wasn't really paying attention to it. (don't ask)
It will be nice to see the differences between the PSSR versions as well!

No fucking shit. Is this some new revelation or an old post by John? This is the way it's been for years. I never take what I see on a YT screen as the gospel truth when it comes to visuals and performance.

Games ALWAYS look better in person. Why is/was he talking like this when this should be considered pure logic that really shouldn't have to be explained to people (especially in these types of forums).

Now that DF is fully independent they are gonna milk every big game with as many videos as they can. This post brought to you by NordVPN use cody Benny at checkout.

wtf...this is without PSSR2!
That's the crazy part. I was watching it and thought....ok, that pssr2 ain't too bad!

Wonder if this is truly the start of the real turnaround for Pro, as in way, way more devs utilizing it for their games. Because that Pro might start to become quite interesting, as in purchasing one sometime this year.

Wow. So they told the fans that they are not releasing the footage because they are sending it to DF for the sake of full transparency, and sent them only the Pro version? Yeesh.
I'm getting some real weird cyberpunk 2027 PS4/XBO vibes. Hopefully it's just an unwarranted feeling.
Its very fishy. Why would they give codes for the base ps5 on launch day lol. They are not confident
Not doing a good job building trust so far. From this roundabout way of releasing console footage, to adding the Denuvo flag to the steam version a week ahead of release...not ideal.

"Beyond that, we've yet to see anything on the base PS5 or Xbox Series consoles."

Eat. A. Fucking. Dick.

One article last year had PS5 Pro at single digits in PlayStation sales. Keep catering to technophiles and premium console customers, while ignoring the actual base that keeps you in business.
To be fair, I bet the audience who watches DF before they buy a game is likely made mostly of technophiles.

This is going to be going head to head with GTA6 for GOTY contender isn't it?

Wild how this is a VERY rare game coming together and achieving something wildly ambitious.

Even up to a week ago I still thought this was a bait and switch.

Isn't console spec and rt quality mentioned in requirements sheet from yesterday, iirc base get low rt in performance balanced modes and high in quality,i assume first two get rtgi but not reflections, quality get both

We need your super summary skillz

ktnx
- This video only features PS5 Pro coverage, other consoles will come later
- Created on proprietary Black Space engine
- RT features are present and fully accounted for. Fully dynamic RTGI present and praised
- Distinctive quality in lighting makes it stand out compared to most current gen games
- Night time is dark and akin to Dragon's Dogma but with RT
- The denoiser struggles in some case and can cause streaking

- Particles and attacks from above cast dynamic shadows
- RT reflections and SSR combined for reflective surfaces.
- This is one area where difference in Performance mode is noted, the reflections are more 'tightened'
- Water system and things like waves breaking on rocks praised, light penetration in water also praised

- The sheer amount of 'near field level detail' at distance is praised
- Distance rendering and shadowing on trees in distance praised, where most games do blobby detail on distant foliage
- Virtually 'no flat surfaces'
- But edges for geometry that protudes outwards like rockwalls, trees etc shows flickering and aliasing

- Console specifics:
- PS5 Pro features 3 modes, Optimal (performance), Balanced and Quality at 1080p, 1440p and 4K respectively
- The build DF tested was running on PSSR 1 with artifacts and ray traced noise present, the PSSR2 patch will come at launch
- Modes target 60 for Optimal, 40 for Balance and 30 for Quality

- Performance mode 'puts up a good fight', but it can and does drop. Larger environments and fights drop to low 50's and even one combat area shows drops all the way to mid 30's.
- However this is representative of stress areas, most other areas do not exhibit this kind of drops.
- The 30 and 40fps modes are more stable i the same stress areas, the area which dropped to mid 30's in Performance tends to stick to the 30 and 40 in each respective mode, with some small drops in 40fps mode
- The 30fps makes everything feel less responsiveness and DF recommends playing either the 40 or 60fps mode with John preferring the 40fps mode during testing
- The game has a V-Sync option which DF does not recommend for non VRR owners.
- Even with VRR displays, it's not recommend for Quality or Balanced mode as it's almost always out of VRR range and causes tearing
- The V-Sync off mode works reasonably well with Performance mode

- The rest of the video is John just randomly traveling to a far off point in the map to see how it goes
- Visible LoD pop-in was noticed during horse traversal
- Many smaller objects in the environment can be knocked down but there is a small delay before physics actions trigger
- Foliage can show noisy RT lighting but this is based on PSSR1
- John praises the variety of things found in the world like farms, orc cities, a circus etc

DF threads only places where my man adamsapple adamsapple is universally loved.

I'm just here to see the game. I've got it in my Steam Wishlist Full Price. It's only March and I've bought several 3rd party games full price this year.

So PS5 Pro version is already great before PSSR2.0 is added?

That's great but it seems a bit weird that they don't have code with PSSR2 so close to launch and given RE9 was already shipped with it.

Either they're simply planning a PSSR1 -> 2 toggle and the specs they have given were all based conservatively on PSSR1 or.....they're actively trying to milk coverage of the game over multiple videos.
