Watched quite a few videos off and on today.

The devs seem to have achieved something special on the technical end but it's doing too much all at once to not have jank.

That said, nothing wrong with a bit of jank if it delivers on the gameplay.

Sadly getting serious AC Valhalla vibes.

Being online at all times in your universe means going online for initial download of day one patch....? Idiot.

I read it on a website. You are too pissed off about something that is not yours and have been said on multiple websites, are you alright?

Not upset at all. Glad to see you admit you were mistaken. Many websites mentioned initial online for download of day one patch. No websites I've seen that claimed constant online requirement, that seems to be something you pulled out of your ass.

People will be really impressed about graphics and gameplay systems at first.

Days later, they will eventualy find out that the mission design/story is boring and repetitive.

I hope to be wrong, but the lack of anything about the game's story during marketing isnt good.
Aaaand I ate some crow

Nothing repetitive about it. 50h and counting.

I wrote up a long-winded thing about how the game is disappointing me, but no one will want to read that.

However, another user on a different site summed it up well for me in general. The conversation was originally about the early Quarry mission, and a player attempted it but was under-leveled without knowing it.

"In my experience, the game hits you with areas like this constantly. It is an extremely annoying theme, especially since there are very few moves that are good for consistently striking multiple enemies early on. Moreover, it isn't like there is a truly interesting set of gimmicks to areas like these. As soon as you instigate a battle, it becomes endless waves until you reduce the percentage to zero, so you are shoe-horned into a specific style (no point in sneaking around). Considering that Pearl Desert is trying to sell this game on exploration and gameplay, it is frequently jarring how pathetically limited you are in your gameplay choices ultimately in a lot of situations. Sneaking is impractical, flight is short-lived to a ridiculous degree (to make the puzzles work), the control scheme is clunky, and the quests are mostly standard-issue fetch quests, hunt quests, and kill quests. The longer I play the game, the more cheated I feel, because the game does none of these things as well as a half dozen other games in the genre do."

it's very mixed..
Well, it delivered aggressively for me - how's that? Not really sure why you asked in your previous post if you're already convinced that the reception was mixed.

The fellow should also know that those events can be solved in other methods not listed such as sending the Greymane companions out to take care of it either in tandem with yourself or without your involvement. It's a bit interesting that the person goes at length to list potential options that aren't available but excludes the one that is.

Stamina drain during flight was also aggressively changed many days ago to the tune of 3x duration for flight so I doubt that the puzzles were the restraining factor in the initial release. I think that you can fly for too long now but whatever.

That's no longer the case. Keep up with updates. It was mixed when it first launched, but the game has gotten positive reviews from players the past two weeks.

Is it true that the first 8 hours are so bad?

IMO, not at all. There's a lot going on in the game so it can be a little disorienting at first getting accustomed to the setup of the controls and just the various systems that the game offers. I definitely wouldn't describe it as "so bad" though. Maybe the first hour or two I wasn't 100% convinced of anything in general, just playing and seeing what happened but after those first couple of hours I was pretty much hooked and haven't looked back and I have about 115 hours in it so far. Outside of titles like Breath of the Wild or Skyrim I typically don't hit the triple digits in video games. Even open world stuff like Assassin's Creed Origins was nowhere near triple digits.

The world is just really well designed, I don't know that it can be argued honestly. Now whether or not you like the particular systems and other content on offer is another question and is much more subjective. But without doubt, the world is beautiful and a joy to traverse and explore for me.

I couldn't make my past 20 hrs of rdr 2

This game is much better IMO when it comes to gameplay and even exploration

Combat is really fun once you start facing harder enemies and need to use skills

Don't expect heavy story. Think Zelda TOTK or BOTW level with emphasis on sandbox, although you do get much more story hete

Edit: the quests aren't on the rails like rdr2 either which I hated a lot about rdr2

You don't fail a quest for trying to find fun alternative ways to solve it

Much better game than rdr 2 IMO

It's serviceable, seems fine to me so far. But I mean that's like Zelda Breath of the Wild having a bad story stopping you from playing the game. The story sucks in that game, but I still put over 100 hrs into it. Not the reason to play these sort of games.

Well, if you like this sort of game I think you'll have a blast. Maybe wait for a discount then so you hedge your bet and it won't sting so bad if it turns out you don't like it.

If by "story" we understand the overarching narrative, it's nothing exciting (up to chapter 5) but the game is actually very well-written, certainly better than modern western fantasies, without modern language or social commentary. A NPC like Naira is infinitely better written than Aloy, for example.

It's ironic that most of the greymanes have more personality than the MC, but they are just what you expect from an uneducated bunch of brutes.

Is it true that the first 8 hours are so bad?

The first chapter is a tutorial, just like in any JRPG where you dont take full control of the MC until 20 hours in.

GoTY and I don't think anything is topping it for me. I haven't loved a GTA since San Andreas. Plus medieval games are waaaay more my style than modern day shit but there is a chance. Rockstar is putting A LOT of time and money into 6, so maybe.

Crimson Desert is like modern day Skyrim but better. Constantly wowed and after 140+ hours I am still really excited to start it up.
