Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Sweet mary Jesus, TLOU 2 looks Sharp as fuckk on PSSR 2

Looks like a brand new game. The only thing out of date is the lighting.

time to replay my GOAT for the 6th time :messenger_loudly_crying: (in chronological order this time) (in between CD sessions)

The game still trades blows with the heavy hitters this gen,

Both Exodus and The Expanse are masquerading as AAA games, when I don't think they are. They could be good, but people expecting Mass Effect type depth will be dissapointed, imo
I mean a lot of AA and indies have punchy gunplay so it's not really a matter of budget for me.

I was only talking about the shooting, but i get what you say.

I think people are smart enough to expect some jank around the edges, same for the blood of dawnwalker.

So are you playing with hdr off??
no, i just tried it last night to capture some gifs and i was surprised by just how brighter it looked compared to the HDR version which feels like it has brightness turned down. i had to check and see and if i had HGIG enabled.

i will try reno hdr but i dont really like injecting these reshades in my games.

You usually play with tonemapping ON and hgig off? why?

Btw hdr seems to be bugged, someone posted a video in the last 2 page of the ot, watch it if your hdr is dull looking.

Mine looks ok but nights are pretty bright, at least the sky look bright, on the ground it is darker than your yotei\horizon but not dogma dark, it doesn't look bad or washed just not complete dark (with hgig and hdr calibrated with windows calibration tool)

The ones that do only focus on the combat though. Exodus and The Expanse supposedly have tons of different systems, like a Mass Effect. People need to curb expectations for studios developing games on a scale they have never done before. Same thing with Playground Games and Fable

I think the combat in Exodus looks serviceable, which may be all it needs to be if it does other things really well

Can someone try and recreate this screenshot? I spent a good 30 minutes in this area trying to find this cliff with no luck. This is the best i could do but im pretty sure im higher up on the mountains which is why the distant LODs are failing. Ignore the reflection errors. They broke like 15 minutes into my experiment. This game has the funniest bugs lol For those interested, this area is down south from the howling winds camp, and to the left of the grass fields where you fight the red devil.

The game is so colorful now. Fuck HDR.

Yeah, maybe on consoles HDR is properly displayed, but on PC I had only problems with HDR. Especially on Windows 10, it's either too colorful, crushed blacks, awful color banding and all sorts of other stuff.
And between this and TVs that have a ton of settings and not 2 displays being the same even though they're the same model, I've given up and just play in SDR, just tweak some stuff a bit and looks amazing.

It also depends on the game; some have that black that's actually grey all the time. I think I can count on one hand games I've played that actually have black that's black and almost no color banding.
1 is Dead Space Remake and another one is the new Resi game, I'm sure there may be others.

According to Forge from the RenoDx team, the shadowmaps in this game are 1026 resolution which explains why they flicker and shimmer so much.

They are trying to get them to 4k and even 8k but the engine is extremely protected due to Denuvo.
That explains a lot. It's really a shame because the overall IQ really takes a huge hit cause of that. Also the rainy weather with DLSS and RR, wtf is that?! It felt like playing at 320x240. :D They really need to fix their DLSS implementation as well. Idk if you noticed, but when vegetation interpolates between objects and/or sky, everything gets smeary and low res. Waterfalls are also affected by ghosting, stand still in front of them for a couple of seconds and you will just see a blurry mess.

It looks like the DLSS pipeline implementation was mishandled, which likely explains why certain effects like the rain appear at a much lower resolution. Another thing they said is that the quality of the clouds is downgraded to hilarious levels like 1/62 resolution.

And the agressive LOD is another problem as well. They should add an option for pc to be able to get higher quality because cinematic is obviously not enough

That being said the game still looks awesome most of the time, I really like the graphics

Hopefully it can all be fixed. In this game you are in pure awe for a moment, then you look somewhere else and it's like "ewww" haha

Regarding the popin of smaller elements I read somewhere (here?) that if you set vegetation to medium the popin disappears.
