Why not? Isn't it a massive boon for apple on the gaming front?
But Android?Dont think this is considered "native" since it is a translation layer like with Proton. But no.....seriously doubt you'lll be able to do this on iphone or ipad. Macs, more than likely, at some point
But Android?
What will Sony do if other manufacturers fully adopt ARM architecture? In this case AMD's chips will become obsolete.
Lower power efficiencyI don't see any reason why Sony would be impacted by this
Lower power efficiency
Then run to Rockstar, Ubisoft, Sony, EA, Microsoft, etc and convince them to waste money making ARM/Android/iOS ports of all the big AAA games.Cool tech, but I just want it to run games without 20 layers of translation
Not on MacDon't they frown on selling games from within other stores?
Not on Mac
Mac is just a regular computer. You have always been able to run Steam on Mac, although there have not been very many games ported to Mac
They use all the same chips (A or M series), mac, iphone, and ipad.Dont think this is considered "native" since it is a translation layer like with Proton. But no.....seriously doubt you'lll be able to do this on iphone or ipad. Macs, more than likely, at some point

Is apple still forced to allow Europeans to install whatever on their phones?
I don't know what they could do other than bitch. As cool as this is I wonder if Valve will eventually piss off publishers with their pro consumer shenanigans. If I can slap a controller attachment on my cheap ass android tablet and play all my Steam games why would I buy this mobile version of your game.
AMD is making an ARM CPU too. What will Sony do if other manufacturers fully adopt ARM architecture? In this case AMD's chips will become obsolete.
Funny how even the good ideas Xbox has are done better somewhere else. Microslop can't help themselves lolIn the future people called "Steam Play Anywhere"![]()
Apple will never allow other games run of their devices. One step closer to Apple Proton, the holy grail of gaming.
Apple already has a proton type of app that uses wine. it works very well actually. One step closer to Apple Proton, the holy grail of gaming.
Apple doesn't really have a choice. If Proton can do for OSX what it did for Linux those M5s are going to be VERY interesting. MBP would become the best mid to high level gaming laptop overnight.Apple will never allow other games run of their devices.
They are doing their very best to delay it by not support Vulkan. Kronos Group is developing MoltenVK which translates Vulkan calls to Metal.Apple doesn't really have a choice. This keeps Apple PCs from just working like one would expect with Proton.
Ah. I didn't know any specifics as to what was slowing them down. The complete absence of Vulkan will certainly do it though. Hopefully they work it out. I'm in the laptop market and from what I can tell MBP is the only sane option. Just based on how it performs in other workloads, it certainly seems like it would be a beast in gaming. They are doing their very best to delay it by not support Vulkan. The moment this happens, that's it. Gaming platforms will have been solved. steam will become the new doom- ran on anything with an arm processor and graphical compute. Counter strike on all screens. All gamers from all walks of life can enjoy their steam library from wherevee on whatever. This is going to be so lit.How long before Steam is a default app on TV's? Perhaps you buy a tv that has an optional slot for an SSD that you can pop in and you are ready to go with a controller and a keyboard? I know that Samsung has Smart Monitors so maybe Steam could show up there as well.
That's mostly because of the GPU hardware. ARM CPUs are noticeably cheaper but not enough to really offset the massive expense of graphical compute. Are ARM-based handhelds cheaper than x86-based ones? It could open the door for a broad range of affordable consoles!
Do we really need top-tier graphics in handhelds though? For me, a handheld is an indie powerhouse first and foremost. That's mostly because of the GPU hardware. ARM CPUs are noticeably cheaper but not enough to really offset the massive expense of graphical compute.
You can see this in gaming PCs, the most expensive component is never the CPU but the graphics card. A lot of arm devices are cheaper because snapdragons don't have super powerful graphics. Nvidia might change this but then you'll be paying a pretty penny for their hardware
Well that's kind of the state we're in right now I'd say. Even with oncoming price increases AYN Odin is the best handheld on the market not made by Nintendo or Valve and it goes for 320. For what you get that's a steal and it's capable of playing plenty of PC indies with increasing compatibility on the way.Do we really need top-tier graphics in handhelds though? I've got the Steam app on my iPhone, I can buy games using the app. I just can't install and play the games...... yet.
Apple has a new CEO, maybe this guy will be more into games.
